any tips for new players?

First of all try to find the best class that suits you.
Then focus on just 1 or 2 weapons for that class and try to master those by learning the patterns in the firing range.
Mastering movement is another key point of the finals so try learning how to properly use jump pads, zip lines and map buildings at their best.
Finally, the finals is the first FPS where team cordination is actually more important than the weapon you are using, so be aware of the role you have on your team and try to learn how to be the best team mate you could be. The finals isn't about the kills, is about reaching The Finals ;)
