- A short documentary about the first start of a one-cylinder Lanz Bulldog D 9506 tractor after 40 years. As the exhaust pipe hadn't been mounted yet, you can see a moving piston as well as fire with exhaust gases running out of the cylinder.

These guys are in their 20's, but I am sure its not the smoke or smoking...

Tak właśnie wygląda prawdziwy mechanior. Papieros w zębach. Nawet nie ma czasu na strząśnięcie popiołku. Sam spadnie. Ale On jest w swoim żywiole. Takich ludzi jest coraz mniej. Bardzo ich szanuję.

It WAS really spooky, and the old giant tractor engine did indeed wake up like Frankenstein's monster. Thanks to the very low temperature, below -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit), the monstrous oldie filled the old workshop with easy visible smoke, steam, sparks and flames.
I am not going to lie that is a badass machine, sometimes it's awesome to see this kind of machinery today

You are 100% right. Besides, I always said: immediately screw every part on the tractor before it disappears into the abyss of our workshop. The tractor weighs 4,000 kg (8,800 lb), and won't disappear so easily :-)
@@classictractor1083 I'm just glad to see that people are bringing older tractors/ equipment back. They might not have a lot of hp but they have massive torque and it gets the job done. I have always been a fan of antique vehicles. Growing up it was always steam locomotives.

Mi padre tenia un pampa Argentino copia del Lanz ...Me conto que su tractor pampa estuvo 15 dias en marcha sin parar bombiando agua para un arrozal..una tristeza me dio cuando me entere de que lo havia vendido por 150 dolares .el tractor estaba en exelentes condiciones conservaba la pintura de fabrica...se compraban para exportatlos a alemaña ,asi que por esos lugares deve andar el pampa que perteneció a mi padre

Pan z filmiku na pewno nie jest "typowym polskim fachowcem", oj źle się wyraziłeś :) Pan mechanik, bo tylko tak można się do tego Pana zwracać, jest jednym z "ostatnich mohikaninów" prawdziwej mechaniki i ma wszystkich współczesnych mechaników pod sobą. Już od pierwszych sekund filmiku,jak zobaczyłem tego Pana,byłem pewien,że ten silnik nie ma prawa nie odpalić. Ogromny szacunek. PS.Przypomina mi Pan mojego stryja, który też ma taki warsztat i ten sam błysk w oku na widok takich zacnych maszyn.

In der Werkstatt ist das Rauchen verboten, wegen der Feuergefahr. :-))) Der Lanz weiß das nicht und läuft trotzdem. Gratulation!! W warsztacie, palenie jest zabronione ze względu na niebezpieczeństwo pożaru. :-))) Lanca nie wie, że i nadal działa. Gratulacje! In the workshop, smoking is prohibited because of fire danger. :-))) The lanz does not know that and still runs. Congratulations!
Bo prawdziwy fachowiec musi mieć giwta ! jak nie pali maszyna to pali on:-) tylko że czasem pali się wszystko na raz! ale to potem szuka się nowego fachowca i nowej maszyny :-)

we used to have a rambler sta. wagon smoked like that & when it was cold you had to burn newspapers underneath to get the pushbutton trans out of park .

Der Motorlauf was laut genug, sodass die Nachbarn gleich kamen. Entscheidender aber war die große Menge Auspuffgas in dem kleinen Raum, und der starke beißende Geruch. Alles in allem war es eine riesige Freude.

Interesting how you roll it backwards against the compression stroke, and it fires before it has enough inertia to pass TDC, which kicks it back the other direction to start.
I also noticed it started backwards once. That could be a real surprise when you want to drive it out of the barn, and instead back it through the back wall. LOL
What did you do to make it a running engine?

Yes, it is necessary to heat the head up. However, such tractors were only started once a day or just once a week, in many cases they were only started every few months. These vehicles could work hard for the entire summer without any breaks. Only drivers and their helpers changed. Fuel and oil were supplemented in the field without turning off the engine.

Jak w takim silniku wygląda przenoszenie obrotów na koła? Jest sprzęgło czy jakieś inne ciekawe rozwiązanie?
Przez sprzęgło i skrzynię biegów. Sprzęgło jest jednostopniowe wielotarczowe, skrzynia biegów jest z wałkami umieszczonymi w poprzek. Szczególnie trudna jest redukcja biegów, ponieważ trzeba: (1) nacisnąć sprzęgło i bieg wyrzucić na luz (2) puścić sprzęgło (3) zrobić przegazówkę czyli zwiększyć obroty silnika (4) nacisnąć sprzęgło i wrzucić niższy bieg. Cała procedura musi trwać bardzo szybko, pół sekundy do sekundy.

I notice there's no throttle to control airflow, and thus the mixture.
Do these run on diesel fuel? I assume oil is mixed in for lubrication.
They can run on anything that burns. Nowadays it's convenient to use diesel.
Just like a diesel engine they have no throttle. Speed and power variation comes from the metering of the fuel as it's injected to be vaporised by the hot bulb.
Lubrication is by the total loss system. Fresh oil is pumped to the main and big and little end bearings, from where it falls to the bottom of the crackcase to be picked up from there and taken to a second [used oil] tank, from where it goes to lubricate the piston, being burnt off in the process.

Proszę bardzo. W Polsce polecam przede wszystkim Pana Jacka Hornika. Tego Pana nie trzeba przedstawiać, bo zna go praktycznie każdy odwiedzający zloty zabytków. U Jacka kupowałem w przystępnych cenach zarówno współcześnie wytwarzane części (np. głowica do silnika, pierścień z zębatkami do rozrusznika) jak i dawne oryginalne części (np. błotniki rydwany do Lanza). Czasami odbierałem części osobiście zajeżdżając do Bielsko-Białej, a niekiedy prosiłem o szybką wysyłkę kurierem. Pracując w Holandii zajeżdżałem do Pana Egelmeersa spod Eindhoven. Rob Egelmeers przejął firmę po zmarłym ojcu Janie, legendzie w środowisku pasjonatów pojazdów jednocylindrowych. Wspominam go bardzo ciepło, bo po północy otwierał dla mnie swój warsztat. Jest znany z wysokiej jakości kół zębatych do szybszych biegów. Ma przystępne ceny. Wysyłkowe sklepy derLANZmannheim oraz Delegro mają szeroki asortyment, ale są bardzo drogie. Poza tym można się rozglądać za częściami na Allegro, OLX czy niemieckim eBay. Kierując się tymi wskazówkami można zdobyć każdą część do Lanza czy Ursusa C-45. Życzę powodzenia w zakupach.

what is that white smoke in the beggining?
This white smoke at the beginning is something expected and very special, like the first cry of a newborn baby. A newborn baby spits blood after birth and cries, the veteran vehicle spits white smoke after being re-born and bangs. The white smoke is a result of burning old waste and some other remains from inside fuel tank. It disappears after several combustions. Every old-timer is looking forward to seeing this white smoke, when starting his vehicle for the first time after a few decades. This was also the reason, why I have started filming.

This guy has obviously lungs out Crome vanadium steel. All the smoke from the engine and the fumes from the cigarette are hard to cope with.

This is a nice video. I think what you can make better is to show the text in the video for a longer time. Something is not correct: Diesel engines have a compression- ratio from 1:12 to 1:24. Maybe you can explain, why and for what reason the injector nozzle can be adjusted in different ways by screwing in or out its handwheel? Maybe you should write down in the video while starting the engine, that the starting with the steering wheel is dangerous and their were many accidents while starting a Bulldog in the past. No, no... These tractors ran for weeks or months without shutting down the engine. Fuel and engine oil were added while the engine was running. These tractors were far too expensive to take breaks from work. Therefore, complicated engine starting once a week or a month did not matter. The tractor drivers and their helpers worked in 12-hour shifts. To summarize, such a tractor was driven non-stop, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including bank holidays.
Witam. Czy możecie mi powiedzieć jak fachowo nazywa się ta żeliwna płyta z napisem LANZ Bulldog?
Oryginalny polski „Katalog Części Zamiennych Ursus C-451” z 1957 r. nazywa tę część „zbiornik przedni”. Z kolei niemiecki katalog części Heinrich Lanz z 1955 r. nazywa tę część „Steigrohr”, co można przetłumaczyć jako „zbiornik pionowy”. W praktyce najczęściej słyszałem (i używałem) potoczne określenie „tablica pionowa z napisem Lanz”. Wtedy każdy wiedział, o czym mówimy :-)
Mam takową cześć i szukam komu by się ona przydała, kto poszukuje do swojej maszyny.

Entschuldigung, Du schreibst nur Quatsch. Alle Lanz-Teile sind mit dem Lanz-Zeichen kenngezeichnet, und mit einer Teilenummer versehen, welche mit dem Buchstaben „D“ anfängt. Einige Beispiele sieht man auf meinem zweiten RUclips-Film. Alle Ursus-Teile sind mit „C45“ versehen. Daher wird es bei einer Besichtigung schnell klar, ob es sich um einen Lanz oder Ursus handelt, oder eine Mischung. Also, man muss sich einen Glühkopfschlepper näher anschauen, um diesen als einen „Lanz“ oder einen „Ursus“ zu erkennen. Ein kurzer Film oder einige Fotos reichen nicht aus, um solche definitiven und kritischen Aussagen zu machen.
Läuft doch gar nicht so schlecht für 40 jahre Standzeit.Ein echt tolles Video.Soll der Lanz restauriert werden?

Die Wirtschaftspolitik in den 70er Jahren. Solche Glühkopfschlepper waren sehr erfolgreich mit ihrer extrem langen Lebensdauer. Dann kam aber eine Anweisung des polnischen Ministerrates in den 70er Jahren: die polnischen Tankstellen machten den Ölverkauf abhängig von der Altölrückgabe. Um 10 Liter Öl zu kaufen, musste man 5 Liter Altöl abgeben. Der Glühkopfmotor verbrannte zu viel Öl, weil das gesamte Rücklauföl durch das Schmieren des im Zylinder bewegten Kolbens verbrannt wurde. Deshalb gingen die Glühkopfschlepper in Polen zu Schrott, oder wurden wie dieser Schlepper vergessen.

Heating is only needed during the first start. Later, when the engine is hot, you don't need to heat it.

Contrary to rf450d’s allegation, the tractor retained many of its old parts made by Lanz, e.g. the crankcase, gear mechanism, intake filter, left fly wheel, coupling, Bosch oil pump, platform, the semicircular parts of the wings (Ursus didn’t produce semicircular wings) as well as, not visible on the movie, the original exhaust pipe and front axle. This can be easily proven because all Lanz parts are marked with Lanz’s logo and a part number beginning with the letter D.
