A physical cake existing doesn't change the fact the promise of one was a still a lie. GLaDOS had zero intention of giving it to you and honestly baking one anyways without the intention of sharing (or even eating it herself, as she has no mouth) is so much more reprehensible than fully making it up.

When on top of the cake room, you can also go inside simply by placing a portal on the ground , falling through it and shooting a portal of the same color somewhere else while falling through it.
you can do it in 4 portals, use the same method to place a portal out of bounds with portal bumping then place a portal at the very corner of the fight chamber, then peek through and place a portal at the cake room. Go to the top of the cake room then go to where the cake is. This next step requires you to bind quicksaves in MISC keybinds (z = save, x = load) while on top of where the cake is, jump (dont fall to ground) then save and load. Contiuously save and load until you are in the cake room :D now you can place the cube on the cake, head back (with portals), kill GLaDOS and get softlocked
It's easier to go from the left side of the fan room from the right side; it takes 1 less portal. You can also save and load from the ceiling to get in instead of doing the portal clip
for some reason in newer versions of portal in Out if bounds space you can only move when your close to a portal but in older versions you can move freely out of bounds

Trim the tops of the cakes with a long serrated knife to make them level, if desired. and thats how you make a chocolate cake
There is another method where you shoot the portal on the left wall. Then you should see a weird void to your right. Shoot the portal there. Then, you should see the roof of the cake room. Shoot another portal there. Then go through the portal and shoot the same portal on another surface while still going through to clip inbounds. Ta-da! You did it. P.S. I think you need to escape the GLaDOS boss battle first without triggering the timer. First you shoot the portal as close tp the door as possible. Then shoot the opposite portal on a pillar (sideways). Then go through the pillar (front) and you will clip through the door if done correctly.
