1- I think ESC stages are replacing solid elements with light elements, like walls of light and rows of spotlights creating curved light surfaces. 2- The LEDs surfaces in this stage are very high definition and look very pleasant in camera. Im sure the graphics will be superb. 3- I read comments about desingers wanting more "intimacy" for the show, and medium to small stages can achieve that easily.
I think the side of the stage design is more to try and deter anyone from charging onto the stage than anything, though they've tried to make it look as if it were part of the design. I think it's there for security reasons more so than anything (we've been having a few issues with people gatecrashing events in recent months lol).
It's not a crazy or really unique stage and it certainly doesn't compete with the greats like 2014, but when it comes to foundations, this is very solid, looks great visually as well, i was quite impressed with the lighting setup
Although I haven't yet seen a person on the stage yet to judge how big or how small it actually is...just from how the camera is showing it, I dont like this stage for a few reasons. -Depsite if it is actually small or not, the camera makes it look as though it is. Are all the bands this year going to look cramped if they only use the back stage? -Since the ovals/circles on the ceiling accentuate the small walkout extension, does that mean that any band/group/artist that does not use itis at an automatic disadvantage? -The back "rotating panels" look as thought hey are not recessed far enough, so the acts are pushed all the way to the edge of the stage...it's like the acts won't have enough forward space to breathe!!!

Security is most likely a huge focus this year, so you might have a good point there
I really like the stage this year, especially on camera it will look soo good!
