The worst leather jacket I ever bought

- The Ship John Wills Jacket is $600 with a two-year waiting list, so plenty of people want to know what a good alternative is. I bought a fake Wills Jacket online and it turned out to be the worst leather jacket I've ever seen. Serously, the smell of this jacket was pure glue and chemicals, not the wonderful smell of good leather I'm used to. Buyer beware of this knockoff!

Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well and allows you to own less and own better.
You know a garment is bad when Carl literally burns it to death 😅
It was so bad that I didn’t even want to give it away!
Most folks born after 1995: "What is a CB Radio?" 😂
awesome edit!
LOL. Nicely done, Carl. As always, your humor is great, along with the info!
Wow! Mike talking to an influencer? Thats the MOST impressive part of this video! When they were first blowing up, he seemed to have a very contentious opinion on them. (Probably because they wanted a discount/faster product.... but still!)
Yeah, and I agree with him on that front. Influencers are typically horrible. I paid for mine and waited in line like everyone else.
Awesome video, Carl! Enjoyed the comedy! We should definitely be calling out and flagging IP thieves
You’ve been setting a lot of stuff on fire lately Carl 🤣
You lost me at 600 for a work ware style jacket 😂
That waxed canvas looks divine. I can get it, but I'm spending a few hundred less for the same materials and a similar design from someone else. :)
Yep lol
@@Ives1776 Waxing canvas just requires buying a container of the oil stuff and is almost completely irrelevant in my climate except to stain other stuff.
Doesn't Duluth call this a Chore Coat for two hundred bucks or something?
@@Ives1776 who👀?
Haha yes ! I remember stumbling upon this awhile ago and wanting to order one out of curiosity to see if anything actually showed up
Honestly the knockoff looks pretty decent
I wish I had known, because I would have sent it to you. You could have used it for a tarp or something!
Awesome video!
Did the knock off jacket smell like oil decking stain? I recently bought a duffel from that region of the world in November. It smelled so strongly that I hid it in the attic to let it off-gas. Here we are in late April and it still smells like a freshly applied, treated wood stain.
Some of their leather gets stored in Canadian warehouse first and smells even WORSE for two weeks outside...
It kinda did!!! It wasn’t the usual pleasant smell of leather.
It was probably pleather! Hence the smell!
Super funny and well done!!!
THAT'S HILARIOUS
Thanks you! Knock off's be damned!
They’re the worst!
this review is hilarious! Subscribed.
I mean the “who we are” told me what region of the world the jacket was coming from.
This was hilarious! Sorry it cost you
To be honest, (and no shade on the wills jacket,) but I choose the tin duck trucker just because the fit is more similar to my build. I would highly recommend as an alternative.
Waitin' on a Wills
I'm surprised you actually got this sent to you.
Me too!
Great video
Much appreciated!
Carl, what’s the brown leather biker jacket hanging infront of the vintage automobile? I don’t think it’s in this video but it’s the picture on the video before playing.
HAHAHA. You a truly a legend, my brother. Keep up the awesome work!
What about the Iron and Resin cruiser jacket? Is that a cheap knockoff of the Wills Jacket?
I love my Wilson jackets! I've never gotten pleather from them...never got them that cheap either $136, or $600...lol
Have you ever seen or tried a Red Tornado jacket? I believe this is an American workwear brand in China. Looks like nice stuff but….you never know.
I havent, but I'm always interested in looking at new products!
More like a chinese domestic brand
So he refused to talk to you when you wanted to just talk about the jacket, but he was cool with an interview to complain?
I’m not at all saying the knock off is ok, but it’s not like he’s losing business. There’s still a massive waiting list. He can’t keep up with the demand.
That may be true, but I honestly don’t know.
To be fair, in the years since that first video I’ve become friendly with Mike, and it just sounds like he’s not very comfortable being on camera. I appreciate that he took the time to do this.
#ItsGottaDie
Sadly I’ve fallen victim to buying jackets (normally leather) from what appears a US or UK site, to then have them shipped from Pakistan. The jackets are shocking quality, with a real shit dye job, often smell funny that no amount of airing ever cure, an an almost greasy texture and ultimately they go straight to the charity shop. Returning then is a pain as well, so leather jackets for less than $250 will be this cheap produced crap. A sign, if on the pictures the company also has an elaborate size guide table, that often talks about “sending us your measurements” whilst that may sound like a great service, this is the first red-flag that these are being made in a Karachi sweatshop. Avoid at all costs.
Carl…what hoodie are you wearing in the cut edit scene?
I think thats an old Apres Hoodie from Grant Stone. I keep it in the studio when it gets chilly.
I have a medium wills jacket in black and i need to size up to large if i continue to build muscle or get fatter
The way I see it, it's a copyright issue related to design by an author. Maybe it should be registered as a design trademark anyway so lawsuit can be conducted when these things happens.
Thats probably a good idea.
The YKK zippers may well be fake.
My main issue is like, if youre charging 600 dollars for a jacket, and then on top of that theres a 2 year waiting period, i feel like you dont really get to complain about other companies making cheaper versions of your product. Obviously the die hard ship john fans will still buy the real thing, but when theres something thats super expensive and exceedingly difficult to get your hands on, there are always gonna be companies trying to make the same thing for less. Thats just capitalism. Im not saying intellectual theft isnt a thing or that it isnt the case here, im just saying that having a fairly inaccessible product is gonna cause people to try and make a cheaper more easy-to-get version. But thats just my 2 cents.
Hey carl what sweatshirt were you wearing at the end of this vid?
This one: bit.ly/3qXvhV1
I wear it all the time and its only gotten better.
Too many people in Pakistan with leather sewing machines now, haha. There are good garment makers in Pakistan but also lot phony ones cashing in on copies and celebrity themed jackets. I was going to buy the Wolverine leather jacket a few years ago but forgot about it.
Yeah, there are always skilled makers in every country and also scammers. I’ll bet the same company owns all of these jacket making websites.
Speaking of reproductions. Right now nobody is making 100% wool peacoats in America that are affordable. Everything is being made in Pakistan and India and random quality... Someone in the community needs to by Sterlings old factory and hire back all the craftsmen...
I would of gave it to the Goodwill store....Nice video Carl. You take your chances when you go cheap....
Honestly this thing was too bad to give away in good conscience, it would have been an insult to whoever bought it.
The cheaper one looks way better than the Ship John.
Oh Carl! 😢you should have given the piece to a homeless man!
they don't want the fake one either..
@@rpnp2 hahaha you bet!
Yea burning a new piece of clothing like that was a bit low, tbh.
Honestly, this thing was so bad that I wouldn’t dare. It would have fallen apart in no time.
pretty much most leather comes from Pak now unless willing to pay extra, but I trust ebay more than AMZN if don't mind a bit used.
cotton and suede are not the same thing, but I thought you were looking for leather, not cotton? You can still get an LL Bean canvas jacket or something.
Doesn't Duluth call this a Chore Coat for two hundred bucks or something?
You didn't shoot it first?
If you're a welder or work in a forge or something might need all leather, otherwise would be more flexible and all that just to get leather grafted onto key areas or something. Waxing canvas just requires buying a container of the oil stuff and is almost completely irrelevant in my climate except to stain other stuff.
600 for a work jacket is very silly
As the saying goes : "A very low price tag can turn sanity off."
I don't like the burning of the jacket.
There are many poor people out there that the jacket could have helped.
Better donate than burn or what do you think ?
That being said, this kind of showmanship is IMHO unnecessary.
Greetings Robby
The fake looks nice 🤷
Hi Carl
Worst jacket ever? Thought you were going to talk about the jacket maker company, lol
I voted for Biden and Obama and I can’t believe some people are upset about that tame Kamala joke. If we can’t laugh at the people in power then we’re in big trouble.
It’s too bad you had to burn the jacket instead of giving it to someone in need.
I would have liked to, but that would have been almost insulting. This thing was real garbage.
Second
I really enjoy your content brother but please lose the political jokes. The Trump administration hurt this country so much and my family was one of those that was left in the ruins because of it. We have just begun to recover due to Biden.
Biden administration quietly hurts this country much more.
agreed. zero reason for politics in a fashion channel.
@@tuckerjamm he can talk about whatever he wants just like you have to freedom to comment what you want about his video.
I appreciate your feedback, but it was nothing more than a joke. Poking fun at someone known for stringing together nonsensical sentences. Certainly not some MAGA mating call lol.
For the record I think both administrations suck and the two party system is antiquated.
This is absolutely not a fashion channel.
Why you moaning about a replica 😂 u knew what you would get at that price
yeah, burn the jacket instead of donating it to the charity
“The charity”
@@CarlMurawski I hope all the folks chriping at you for not donating to "tHe CHaRiTy" are out at their local soup kitchens today rolling up their sleeves.
People believe that our donated garments go to someone who really needs them and that they are doing the world some sort of service; however, the reality is that the vast majority of donated textiles end up in Africa or other underdeveloped nations (we pay them to take our unwanted shit) and then a large portion of those are....well...burned...
First
Why wouldn’t you spend $600 on a Ship John Willis when you can get a Carhartt for cheaper, quicker and made better? Isn’t a Ship John just another copy of a Carhartt?
lol no
Not really. You may be referring to the old Detroit Jacket, but that’s very different. The heaviest material Carhartt offers is 12oz duck canvas, the Wills is 24oz (after waxing). It’s also made by a small group of people who are being paid decently here in America.
Nice MAGA signaling with the shot at Kamala. See ya.
I voted for Biden and I'll say this, quit being a little bitch. Let the man do what he wants just as you can comment what you want.
Just a joke, but if you insist on dividing the population into two types of people then it’s probably best you’re not a part of my audience. For the record I think the two party system is antiquated and there has never been an administration I could fully get behind.
If you keep going through life looking for ways to be offended, that’s what you’ll find.
@@CarlMurawski It is completely find to poke fun at whoever is in power--if we can't do that in a democray then we are truly lost. And I mean, for real, she does use jumbles of words in her rhetoric whereas Trump uses a lot of ridulous hyperbole in his: both great fodder for humor. MAGA signaling......poppycock i say lol
@@saltedracer18 hear hear!
I’m not paying over 600$ for a ‘work jacket’. And that too after waiting for over 2 years! I’d rather buy that Pakistani jacket instead
The real Chineze Afumfuna is amongst us folks!!
Hahahaha
@@kartikchary Hahaha I wish- I’m sure that guy is rolling in dough 😂😂
Mike Ellias is gonna cancel you for the Kamala joke.
Nah, he understands the difference between humor and signaling. We’ve actually become friendly over the last couple years.
