.280AI is a special and versatile cartridge. Low recoil, very efficient, and versatile. To get the most out of its potential, handloading is the ticket!

Nice quick fun video. Adam Weatherby is such a great dude including being a pastor when he’s not involved in running his grandpa’s company. Those HUSH guys (Casey, Eric and BMac) are cool cats 😎 too. 280 AI is extremely high on my list of next cartridge that I want to get in a rifle along with another 7mm in the new “hotness” the 7mm PRC. Would fit nicely between my 270 Win and 300 WSM 😃🦌
280AI is one of the best options out there. It really should be more popular. I don’t have one but if I was looking for a new deer catcher in a new to me cartridge it would make my short list. I think you will like it.
280 ai is an excellent hunting round, shoots flat, hits hard, one of the most popular cartridges in custom built mountain rifles! My son has one in a custom Tikka t3x light.
Good deal and congratulations buddy reaux! Couldn't make the premier, but got here as soon as I could. You're making all of us Southern boys proud, "Hobknobbin' with Mr. Weatherby himself!"
Seen a video a few weeks ago testing the 280 AI with a 24 in barrel. They were using 155 gr Federal Terminal Ascent with a factory rating velocity of 2930 fps. They chrongraphed it at an average of 3003 fps.
Your timing on the 280AI video is great. I’ve been studying up on them. I know Ron and Joseph like them. I’m thinking of getting one in a light weight mountain rifle. Looking forward to seeing your future videos on it.
280 AI. AWESOME. I use weatherby loaded, 139 Hammer boolott. Model 307 Meateater Edition. Recoil isn't bad. Prints nice groups. Awesome trigger. 24" barrel, don't lose 200+ fps. Lots of choices now. No belted case to fool with. Can't wait to see how other types of ammo prints for you. Terminal Ascent 155 grain, hint hint.😊
Might be one of the most versatile cartridges out there for hunting and great for long range target too. Load lighter 120-140 grain bullets and have a super flat round almost as flat as even the .25s for deer sized game .Load heavier bullets 150+ got a very efficient elk sized game cartridge. Close to 7mm mag but less powder and recoil. Just awsome
Glad to see you doing the 280 AI. Probably my favorite round ever. I have a 307 chambered in it on the way. Not this one but a dealer special that my local shop can get, and it also has a camo stock just a different color.
I have a .280 Ackley that I built on a Remington 700 put Timney trigger on it shoots great I use 140 grain nosler ballistic tip and IMP 4831 powder shoots great.
I love the 7mm, from 7mm-08 to 28 nosler. I need to start reloading and pick up a 280 AI. Weatherby rifles are fantastic, I am very excited about the 307.
I looked at the weatherby 307. Savage Ultralight and Browning Xbolt 280AI. I ended up going with Browning. The Xbolt has a 1@8 twist and 26-inch barrel. The Hells Canyon Speed Long Range 280AI. And I topped it with a Leupold. VX6 HD 4x24x52mm TMOA reticle. The hornady 162 gr ELD X. Is a good one, too, try. I got the 1@8 to shoot 180 gr bullets.
Awesome man finally a 280 Ackley. Really great Cartridge. And can’t beat those hammer bullets either great combo for sure. Thanks for the video man keep up the good work God bless you
Looking forward to all the videos on the 280ai and loads and bullets you test out. I purchased a Christensen arms ridgeline 280ai for everything I hunt out of Ohio and quickly became my favorite cartridge.
I built a 280 Akley improved using a old 721 Remington that was a 30-06 that wouldn’t keep bullets inside of old Elmer’s hat at 100 yards it was a B model with a checkered stock so I ordered a barrel already short chambered and threaded and pre crowned and a reamer and go no go gauges and hand oiled the stock and bedded it and it is a fine rifle now in the 280 Ackley improved
I can recall back in the 1990s almost every hunting show guest host was using a 280 Remington, Extremely popular back then as was the 25-06 cartridge, Both have almost died in popularity
I love the CAMO pattern of your rifle! I just bought the Ruger American Ranch Gen 2 in 6mm ARC. I can't wait to take it to the range. I have it mounted with an Arken SH-4J.
Now weatherby needs to come out with a Model 307 in 358 win for back country applications. I have a Sako L57 .308 win that was rebarreled .358 winwith a 26” barrel long before I acquired it. It is a fantastic rifle.
I've got a. 338-06 Ackley improved. A buddy of mine has a custom .280 Remington that I keep trying to talk into rechambering it to the Ackley improved version.
I'll admit I'm jealous. I very much look forward to the videos with it. Great cartridge, but with handloading the regular old 280 remington isn't far behind, and the first cartridge I hunted with, so for sentimental reasons, I would probably prefer a regular old 280.
I have a Remington 725 in 280 Rem. Where the 721/722 are a direct ancestor of the 700 the 725 was kind of a cousin to the 721/722. Always thought the 280 was a great cartridge, Remington just screwed upon the marketing and load development. With proper loads it runs right at the velocity of the 280 AI. The AI version doesn't add much over a properly loaded 280. Either one runs right up to near 7 mm mag but it doesnt it in shorter barrels. The 7mm mag needs a 26" barrel to get the most outof the cartridge. The 280 and it's AI conterpart can do it in 22" barrels. The main thing you get with the AI version is the sharper shoulder angle which can lead toamore consistent headspacing. The often leads to a slight edge in accuracy. The velocity is often only 50fps faster. Comparing equal pressure in the loading. For some reason most can't figure out is the 280 was restricted to 60k psi where other cartridges of the time in the same rifles was 65k psi. I think they did this because they came out with the 7mm Mag and didn't want it the 280 to outshine thier new magnum cartridge. Which it does if loaded to it's full potential. Some of my favorite loads reach as close to the 7mm Mag as factory loads in the AI version do. With great case life and accuracy.
Oh my, oh my, oh my!! That is a special chambering. Well done Team Weatherby on bringing .280AI to market.

The .284 projectile is the king from way back !
280 AI is a wonderful balance for the 7mm bullet. With this cartridge less equals better
Po Ackley was a legend in custom firearms. He produced several cartridges. He even had a 22 caliber he took to Africa, took several animals.

Not a 7mm fan but I had to have one. 280AI is what it would be. Great all-around cartridge.
Surprising that this very effective and efficient cartridge never caught on.
Until now. Since Nosler made it a SAAMI cartridge, it's slowly taking off. Grendel took awhile, and look where it is.
@@anthonykaiser974 I hope it does better than Grendel.
@@PassivePortfolios Grendel is more an eastern woods WT cartridge, but it will work at 300. Mine is a rebarreled Zastává mini-Mauser.

Good to hear that. Just got a couple of boxes to try out this year.
So cool this content is coming. Just sent off one of my rifles last week to a custom gun builder in Texas to get chambered/rebarreled in .280 AI.
Awesome. Stay tuned!

7mm express/ 280 rem... yeah I'm an old guy
