I just got identifix program 3 days ago. I am a mobile mechanic so I decided to get the service. I bought it but I don't know how to use it. Since I don't know English very well it is complicated for me on how to find what I am looking for. I've seen that it has many information. But I am learning watching videos like this. Thank you so much.
I just ordered AllData and my shop is 90 percent electrical because I repair Electric vehicle and Hybrid Cars and I have used Identifix for several years my opinion is that Identifix is better than AllData when it comes to electrical diagram. At least for my type of shop Identifix is better because I need a very detailed diagram and more thorough info when it comes to electrical stuff. If at all possible even include the electronic circuit but of course you won’t find that in auto repair manual. That’s more of an engineering stuff.
So everything that you highlighted with IDENTIFIX, all those same functionality's are available on ALLDATA. The interactive coloring diagrams are not directly from Mitchell, these are all being provided by Bosch. ALLDATA has a lot better view of their interactive diagram with being able to lay the pages out side by side. I have a huge problem with IDENTIFIX's fixes as well, they promote a lot of guessing and parts swapping and they can cause a shop to be left with a lot of liability. Who knows who is confirming those fixes. ALLDATA has those fixes as well and if I am not mistaken, they are all verified by master technicians. Huge difference.
Thanks for the comments. There have been many improvements in both information systems and this video is over a year ago. No system is perfect. I instruct my students to view case histories as an indication of what might be causing the problem. You can't simply look at the most common repair and jump to conclusions about your problem. You should treat those "fixes" as information only. You should take that information and include it in your diagnostic approach, use it as a starting point perhaps. If I see that on a specific vehicle with problem 123 and the most common repair is to replace component xyz , then I use that info and go straight to testing xyz and confiming that is the problem. I test component xyz , I don't jump straight to replacing it. Yes there are occasions where certain components cannot be tested. In that case you have to test everything else that it could possibly be, and double check every thing twice.
You are incorrect about the color wiring diagrams. They are Bosch not Mitchell. Mitchell had an exclusive right to distribute them so people interpreted them to be Mitchell. But they are not. They are Bosch. Now Alldata and Identifix can also distribute Bosch color wiring diagrams. Alldata previews them differently and better than Identifix and Mitchell.
Ok I wasn't aware of that. I'd only know them as Mitchell as I remember using the Mitchell information system when it was on CDs and floppy discs in the 90s
I just ordered AllData for my EV/HEV shop it’s terrible compared to Identifix and I have used Identifix for several years. I’m disappointed that my first use of AllData on a hybrid car electrical diagram is not good and not enough info. Pin out and wire color doe not match which can lead to broken computer while testing it’s terrible I gonna keep it for one month and use Identifix instead.

All data just say left end of dash while Identifix shows me exactly, and it requires me to remove dash to access it. All data is for mechanics not for technician who heavily work on electrical system. My work is almost 100 percent electrical if you are just a regular mechanics AllData is probably better but not if you work on hybrid and electric cars only like I do.
I find I can get all that on Mitchell. If I search for connector nunber it pops right up. I would love to try alldata but Mitchell seems to be good. I’m sure they are all missing stuff. Mitchell has all oem wire diagrams too. Thanks for sharing this I was looking for something like this
Honestly it's been a couple of years since I left Mitchell and it was over a lack of information on a Dodge Ram. I could not find connector pinouts for the TIPM or connector location views. I honestly like some Mitchell diagrams when I don't need the detail as I mentioned as they are often condensed and translated. Sometime Mitchell leaves out connectors in a circuit when they redraw them though. This is a problem. Both Alldata and Identifix give you both now. Thanks for watching.
@@PhillipBaileysame here, I went to identifix as a Ram owner. I had alldata Mitchell Electronic service information when I left the trade to work on locomotives. Lost my butt a few times at home fixing my own vehicle and got identifix. Identifix has never left me hanging and I’ve done a lot of side jobs with it. Awesome awesome awesome program!
Identifix has limited stuff for older vehicles. I tried searching for info on 1990 Winnebago with poor results. Also I tried looking for info on a 2020 MB GLB 250 and it had nothing AT ALL. It is good for mainstream stuff if you know somewhat how to look. For a mobile mechanic using an android phone or tablet it will not let you pull up pdfs of wiring diagrams. You have to be somewhat trained to use Identifix efficiently.
Yes I agree. Not viewing pdf's in the chrome browser is an android thing. I use my phone quite a bit and I fine if you click print preview it opens schematics. You can usually open the colour schematics.
I wish they could show electronic circuit for let’s say an EV inverter or Battery control module. Or a DC/DC electronic circuit for a hybrid. I often have to repair electronic circuit for these type of vehicles. Some can not be fixed but at least it would be easier to evaluated if an electronic module is bad
All Data might be better for me since My shop is an EV and Hybrid vehicle repair. Only because EV and Hybrid are often mentioned by AllData on their web pages. It gives me impressions that they are more active in this type of vehicles. I wish they have a version specifically for EV and Hybrid but they don’t. I have used Identifix for several years because my business partners use it for his shop but it seem to come up short on electrical diagram specially on hybrid vehicles. Some hybrid vehicles is not even on there like one of the Mercedes plug in hybrid. I had to give it back to customer and tell them I can’t find info on it. I messaged identifix but they never replied
Yes I agree nothing is perfect. They compliment each other but as a shop owner it's had to justify the expense of both. I have noticed Identifix behind in information access on some late model Fords where Alldata has diagrams.
@@PhillipBailey I don’t work on regular cars I mostly work in hybrid and AllData is not as committed as Identifix on these type of vehicle maybe because hybrid specialist shop is not many.
I have used both and they are both hit and miss. Identifix gives you the option of choosing Motor (Alldata) and Chilton labour times. I'm not sure that the Alldata site gives you both to compare. I like Chilton as it often has severe service times. I work on a lot of rusty crap here in northern Ontario so for many repairs I won't quote by the time guide. If I do I only caught once...
Phillip Bailey okay thats not bad i really like the wiring diagrams showint connector locations and connector views pkus showing how its routing is nice for tracing wiring shorts currently using mirchell was using all data but switched just to try mitchell

@@jordanboulay3780 just as good in my opinion. I use the key word search a lot. Sometimes if I can't find what I'm looking for that way I'll go into tge oem service manuals. Key word search pulls up TSBs that contain the word. When Mitchell switched from Mitchell on Demand to Prodemand they broke this search capability and it would not find tge key word in a TSB unless it was used in the title. I had multiple discussions with them over this and I expect that they have fixed by now. I certainly hope so.

You don’t find real mechanics anymore. All these young mechanics today are a bunch of certified RUclips mechanics. When I was a young mechanic in the 90s we would have to turn pages of s Mitchel Book larger than a damn bible and we figure out a cars problem based on what we learned reading physics books and finally applying them on automotive and what made it tick. Today I own an electric vehicle and hybrid vehicle repair shops. All these mechanics boast about how fast they can change a water pump but can’t even figure out a no start problem if it’s not a fuel or a spark issue. I ask them what could cause a car not to start when fuel pressure is good and there is good spark and all mechanical part are good including car converter not being clogged up. They can’t answer. It’s common on one of the hybrid cars on the road. Or I tell them a car is misfiring, spark plug was replaced coil was replaced, compression is good, and all mechanical part is in order but somehow still misfire they can’t answer. I know you will just google the answer hahaha but my answer is based on cars I have worked on one is a hybrid vehicle

Identifix Pro. As far as I knoe the DIY information is the exact same as the pro version only specific to a single year, make and model. HTH

@Ronaldo-qs2lx doesn't Alldata have OEM diagrams and color or Mitchell diagrams as well? What make, year and model were you looking for.

Which would you say has more accurate labor time studies?

It depends on what kind of a deal you can cut with them. Around an hour and half shop labour rate is what I pay.
