- This video shows how to easily remove the flow restrictor from a Moen Engage Showerhead, with model 26009 shown. The process is similar or identical on other Moen showerheads such as Attract and Verso if they are the newer style with this showerball nut.
I hope this video was helpful for you. Thank you for watching, and good luck with your repair!
Thanks for watching! If you have Moen Align facet, check out this video to remove the flow restrictor:

I wish every RUclips video was this straight to the point with solutions! Thanks 👍
Thanks, and thanks for watching! : )
So easy! I can't stand flow restrictors. One of the benefits of living in Michigan is that we basically have an infinite supply of cheap, high quality water. No need to suffer with low shower head pressure.
Nice - thanks for watching! : )
Does the handheld part have its own flow restrictor? Can’t tell my the photo. Thanks
Such a good video, nailing the exact process. As you mention, several other videos attempt the same explanation but fail to clearly articulate the what and why. I encourage you to continue making well-paced and thoughtful content such as this (no matter the subject). Thank you!
Thank you - I will! : ) Thanks for watching!
This was very helpful for making this showerhead... really functional at all. I have the verso, and I can also tell you that there is another flow restrictor in the handheld wand itself, which consists of a white plastic ball valve that can only be adjusted open by popping the faceplate off.
Thanks for adding your tips and thanks for watching! : )
I was almost certain this was the way to remove it and i even had cocked my hammer back with a screw driver up against the restrictor and was about to knock it out when i thought about the fact i just spent $115 on this shower head and i didnt want to mess it up so i should probably go confirm that this is indeed the way to remove it first lol. Thats how i happened upon your video! Thank you for making this video, it perfectly helped confirm my initial assessment. The water pressure is significantly better now. The way i see it is good water pressure and flow = fast, quick efficient showers while low water pressure/flow = slow, inefficient frustrating showers. Or in other words i think it makes more sense to take a quick quality shower than a long poor quality shower. Thanks again!
I agree! Thanks for your comment, and thanks for watching : )
I did not even need this video. Actually looking for something else for my Moen shower head. End up watching the whole video and was like wow I wish more people could be this good at their videos. She explained at a great pace and was very thorough. Now only if she made a video for what I was looking for.
Thank you! And thanks for watching : )
Hey, this solved my issue perfectly, so thank you! My poor shower head flow had been bothering me for months until I sucked it up, found your video, and had the issue solved in 15 minutes!
That's great - nice job on your DIY! It's like having a whole new shower! Thanks for watching : )
Excellent. This was the information I was looking for. Clear, concise, good views and no extra blather or self promotion.
Thank you, and thanks for watching! : )
Thank you for the clear and uncluttered explanation of how to do this. Worked perfectly. So much better than listening to some dude droning on about with how much he thinks he knows about everything.
Haha! Thanks, and thanks for watching : )
I saw that video too of ahole Lenderman just talking no showing
My Mohen Magnetix was different. I had to pull the parts out with a pick as there was no piece to separate the shower head. Mine had another part below the plastic strainer - a check valve which I removed with a pick. My shower head flow increased significantly after removing these parts. Note - there is still a strainer inside the fitting that screws onto the shower pipe, I didn’t touch it.
Thank you for adding your tips!
Your voice is super soothing L35, thank you for the video. I fixed mine!
Right on, great job on your DIY! Thanks for watching : )
I have the exact same model shower head and this video is really helpful. Now the water pressure is improved a lot. Thank you!
Hooray! I'm so glad it helped - thanks for watching! : )
Is there a restrictor in the handheld part too?
Very easy to follow. She did a great job explaining and demonstrating. Thank you!
Wondering where you put all your parts that you might need for the future with your little index card? I bet they can accumulate. I have tiles roofing shingles you name it. Pieces of wood flooring. Etc..
Fantastic tip and great presentation, thanks for sharing!
Thank you, and thanks for watching! : )
Why would you keep part of the flow restrictor still in it
If you have well water, sometimes little bits of sand-sized tiny rocks end up in your line, so you might decide to keep the larger "filter" part in to catch those sandy bits and prevent them from reaching the holes at the sprayer/showerhead, but remove the restrictor to allow for the increased flow.
If you have city water, then typically you don't have to worry about the little rocky bits that sometimes occur in well water.
I hope that helps! Thanks for watching : )
Thank you so much for this amazing instructional video! Everything worked perfectly. You saved me so much time and I felt so empowered being able to do this myself! You have such a wonderful gift for teaching! Thank you again! 😊
Wow, that's great! Well done on your DIY!
Thanks for watching : )
The flow restrictor helps prevent water splashing back on me when I give shower 🚿 to my little ones with the curtain wide open. Now it's time to remove it since they are old enough to take showers themselves, of course with the plastic curtain shut. Splashing water will help rinse out shampoo and conditioner residues sticking do the bathtub walls and curtain.
That's a great tip - thanks for sharing, and thanks for watching! : )
just don’t turn the water on as high…
Is this only for the rain shower head or it will increase gpm for the handheld shower head also?
Thank you so much! Perfect video, and now I have good water pressure
That's super! Thanks for watching : )
Thank you for the clear instructions. My daughter hated our expensive shower head and tried to return it. Just a tap and it went from unusable to terrific.
Haha, that is super - well done! Yes, these flow restrictors just aren't appropriate for all situations, and it really does make a difference to remove them when appropriate. Thanks for watching! : )
Global warming freak love saving water haha
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Perfect video!!!
Thanks, and thanks for watching! : )
Thank you! Very easy fix to a frustrating problem!
Thanks for watching! : )
This video was exactly what youtube should be. Informative, helpful, and straight to the point
Thanks, and thanks for watching! : )
Happy New Year, too!
Thanks so much! I was looking on the wrong side for the restrictor! Pressure is now great!
Nice - great job on your DIY, and thanks for watching! : )
Thank you for making this video, it was very helpful, just what I was looking for 👋 😊
That's great - nice job on your DIY!
Thanks for watching : )
Mine was one solid piece, no o-ring, nothing. Popped the entire unit out.
Thanks for sharing your tip!
You just won me some brownie points with my wife. Thank you!! 🎉
Haha, nice! Thanks for watching! : )
Thank you! This is guaranteed to be the most efficient method.
Thanks for watching! : )

Nice! Thanks for watching : )
Love my shower now! Thank you!
Great job on your DIY, and thanks for watching! : )
is there separate restrictor in the wand?
Not that I am aware of - please post back if you discover one! Thanks for watching : )
Thank you for this information 💪🏾👏👏👏👏
Thanks for watching! : )
Ty. 😊
You’re a life saver for this! Thank you!!!!
Thanks for watching! : )
Great video very clear and easy to see what you are doing!
Is there a flow restrictor in the additional smaller showerhead in this set? We have poor flow in both of them.
If by the "smaller showerhead" you mean the hand-held wand part, I'm not aware of a flow restrictor in that component. There is a three-position lever near the main (overhead) showerhead, and if that lever is not "locked" into one of the three positions, it might cause an issue since that lever is controlling the valve which diverts water (to just the overhead mode, or just the handheld mode, or the mode that is a split between the two). Is that what you mean?
@@L35inColorado checked the small handheld when we removed the restrictor in the main large showerhead. Nothing in the handheld. Thank you for making this video. Worked like a charm. We are enjoying much better water flow!🥰
@@ruthanne9018Alright, that's great! : )
I've had this showerhead for several years now and it leaks from one head to the other. For example, if I have all the water diverted to the large head, it leaks out of the handheld, and vice versa. Is there a cartridge in it that can be changed? Also the off switch on the the handheld head barely stops any water anymore, the water pours out even when it's in the "off" position. Have you had any of these problems?
I haven't heard any issue with this showerhead, but what you're describing certainly sounds like a fault. I can say that in the past, Moen has been very helpful: if you call them, they will send the parts for free if you've previously registered the showerhead with them:
1-800-289-6636
Perhaps try that number and they might be able to help! Thanks for watching, and happy new year! : )
Did you measure the new gpm?
No, I didn't measure the gpm before or after. I removed the flow restrictor on this showerhead as soon as I removed it from the box because we're on a well and tend to have lower water pressure in general. I can say that it performs very well in all three modes. Thanks for watching!
When I have the handheld and rainhead both on at my home, the rainhead drops in pressure. In my sister’s home, both have great pressure when both on. Is there something I missed?
If you still have poor water flow after removing the flow restrictor, then you might just have lower water pressure at your home than your sister's home. I hope that helps : )
Quick efficient instruction, to the point!!! This was done nicely. Thank you.
Thank you - and thanks for watching! : )
Wow so much easier than when I attempted this with the delta hydro rain. Thank you!
Thanks for watching! : )
Anyone know where to order a new mount? Contractor tossed it on accident.
Give Moen a call - they are excellent about providing replacement parts, often for free. I hope that helps : )
Omg! Thank you!!!
You're welcome - thanks for watching! : )
Thank you.
Thanks for watching! : )
Thank you for the video.
You say due to your water situation, you did not replace the gray part.
What water situation are you referring to?
Thank you!
Yes - we're in a rural area and so we're on a well; our water pressure is lower than the average home on a municipal system, but probably a little better than most other homes on wells. I hope that helps - thanks for watching! : )
Thank you!
