Seriously, America. Get more roundabouts. They're SO MUCH SAFER than four way traffic lights. SO, SO much safer.

+Will Davis The U.S does/did have roundabouts but many have been converted to intersections because people just don't know how to drive in a roundabout and because of that they have more accidents than a traditional intersection.

    • @StalePhish
      @StalePhish 8 лет назад +12

+Will Davis I drive through 7 traffic lights and 2 roundabouts every day coming home from work, and the roundabouts are significantly less safe, in my opinion. 99% of the time, the intersections flow smoothly. But I would say, at least 30% of the time there is a near-miss in the roundabout. People turning right from the left lane, or randomly changing lanes back and forth, or not yielding when entering.

We do have roundabouts and with American drivers who can barely understand a 4 way stop, roundabouts aren't any safer..

No worries, Model 3 is planning to come out at around 35k USD worldwide.
Based on how Tesla rolled out their Models S & X, even though Elon said release of the Model 3 would be in late 2017, I think people would only begin to really receive their cars in late 2018.
So you've got at least 2.5 years to save up! And it's not as if the Model 3 would be extinct by 2025, so why not!

Did you hear about the DEFECTIVE BRAKES?
      A: The total brake failure
This explains well Tesla'en who came rushing over Røakrysset on red earlier here in the winter, to reasonably big stir among all other cars and pedestrians. Based on what's in this (and other) threads here seems Tesla owners to be extremely patient with their brand and their cars, something I se understand well it is amazing cars. In my opinion one can forgive a lot of other strange but slows there is absolutely no unnskydning for: they must work 100% reliable anyway. Imagine if it was yourself or your own youth who was mowed down by a bremseløs Tesla because Tesla was too dull or arrogant to clean up. It is of course totally inexcusable. I've even run quite a few different cars with solid brake equipment (much M models) and I've never been close to notice any reduction in braking performance regardless of weather conditions. So whatever this really caused it is not difficult to straighten up and do it properly. In this country forgive we the just about anything, but that day someone gets hit in the US due. erring brakes and the investigation shows that Tesla have known brake problem while without making something so come Tesla to be sued for such large amounts that it definitely is hosted on the door.

    Tesla Safety Concern
    Dear Tesla Staff,
I wanted to raise a safety concern.
    1. If there is a power failure of the vehicle
    2. The owner is standing outside the vehicle in the rain and elements
    3. There is no way at all to get inside the vehicle, that does not involve electronics or wireless.
    4. The owner is at massive risk, and is forced to remain outside the vehicle in the rain and elements for a potentially unlimited amount of time
Thank you very much for your consideration

When I learnt to drive in 1979, my instructor said never leave your eyes out of the road ahead. Since then, I drove all kind of cars and motorcycles. Fortunately, I've never been involved in a accident and I drove millions of miles in any kind of cars from a 204 Peugeot, Cadillac Fleetwood Talisman, Ford XL Convertible, Fiat Punto, Subaru Forester, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche Carrera and... Tesla to name a few. I have been a professional chauffeur for famous people. Sometimes I had to drive fast for being on time for a rendez vous or catching a plane at the airport. Now is the point I want to make: the touch screen in Tesla cars just don't make it. Everytime you want to do anything you have to lower your eyes and focus away from the road. This just kills it for me. It's almost as bad as texting while driving. I don't even understand this to be allowed by safety regulations. I love the idea of electric cars even though I think a common battery system that you could just change at filling station (just like gas) would be the solution for mile range. So, no, Tesla are not safe until complete driving automation comes along. Even if this ever happens, I'll just keep trusting my driving common sense
    .

    • @siyacer
      @siyacer 6 лет назад +1

      +Keef Wivaneff
The NHTSA has a total of 66 complaints registered for Tesla Model S manufactured between 2013 and 2015.
There are multiple complaints of unintended acceleration, faulty suspension, brake failure, sudden shut-down and stoppage, problems with autopilot, fires in batteries and chargers.
The investigation into battery fires resulted in a battery shield and raised ride height . The ride height has since been lowered once again.
An NHTSA investigation and/or recall would probably drive the company into bankruptcy.
Tesla has sold few cars compared to the major manufacturers. Most owners are also shareholders and problems are under-reported. So far Tesla might be flying under the radar of NHTSA.
      Unintended acceleration
Conventional cars built up until the 1980's has mechanical linkages to the throttle and in almost every case the problem was caused by driver error or problems with the carpets or trim causing the accelerator pedal to be stuck down.
Things began to change from the 1990's with some manufacturers employing "drive by wire" meaning that an electrical signal from a sensor on the accelerator pedal controlled the engine's power.
Toyota introduce Electronic Throttle Control System in 2002 and when reports of unintended acceleration began to surface it initially denied the possibility of this system being responsible but instead blamed incorrectly fitted floor mats or driver error.
It was subsequently discovered that Toyota knew that the ETCS could indeed cause unintended acceleration and that problems with the factory supplied floor mats and placement of the pedals were exacerbating the problem.
In March 2014 Toyota was fined 1.2 Billion by the department of justice.
NHTSA came in for criticism over its failure to act.
In the case of Tesla unintended acceleration incidents Tesla has claimed that the logs show the accelerator pedal was fully depressed by the driver.
There is little doubt that the motor went to full power but short of a video recording showing the position of the driver's feet at the time of accident there is no proof that a failure in the car's electronic speed control system was not the real cause of the accident.
      Battery Fires
It is clear from the accidents that involve Tesla battery fires that if the pack is damaged especially when the car has been driven hard and the cells are hot that a runaway thermal chain reaction can occur leading to a Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly.
The NHTSA investigation into several of these RUD events was wound up when Tesla agreed to fit additional battery shielding and to raise the ride height.
Unfortunately the raised ride height caused rapid tire wear on the inside edge of the tires due to the change in camber angle. Owners also complained that their cars felt less "sporty" and that wind resistance increased leading to reduced range.
It is hard to see that wind resistance would increase since the drag coefficient of the car is unaltered and the only increase in frontal area is the very small increase in tire area outside of the wheel well caused by raising the ride height.
Since the increase in ride height was one of the factors used to satisfy the NHTSA safety concerns it is remarkable that Tesla could lower the ride height again without triggering a response from NHTSA.
The battery shield even though it is made partially from Titanium is an extremely lightweight device held on with small Pan-Head screws.
The idea that it can protect from concrete blocks and hardened steel spikes is supported only by a very low resolution GIF that shows the supposed cinder block and robust car alternator being "pulverized" under the car.
      Suspension defects
NHTSA database lists many complaints on the subject
There are very large number of photographs of Teslas with front or rear wheels splayed out at crazy angles or completely torn off that can be found on Google Images or on Flickr.
The suspension components on the Tesla are made from light alloy rather than from steel as is the case of most other cars on the road.
Whilst Tesla engineers may be very good at writing code, their mechanical engineering skills are questionable.
Critical suspension components on many cars are secured by pinned castellated knots or at the very least by Nyloc nuts.
Tesla choose instead to use Loctite thread-locker compound.
They very often mark the nuts with felt tip pen as a "tell-tale" to detect movement in the parts.
Loctite is intended to permanently secure a nut in place on a bolt. If the Tesla service technician decides to retorque the bolt during a service inspection the Loctite bond is broken and will no longer hold the part securely.
There is a widely held belief among Tesla owners that because the car is electric it does not require much in the way of regular servicing.
The brakes, suspension and other mechanical parts are no different to those on any conventional car.
The Tesla is a heavy and high performance car and its marketing highlights the "insane" acceleration and top speed.
Regular servicing and safety checks are even more important on such a car than on a traditional ICE car of more modest size and performance.
      Sliced Wheels
The Flickr album Tesla Sliced Wheels shows many examples of this phenomenon. It is as though the wheels were spinning on a lathe and a cutting tool sliced them in half from the inside.
I can not find any examples of this phenomenon occurring on any other make of car. If this is not reason enough for an urgent NHTSA investigation and possible recall then what is?
      Summing up
I believe that owners of Teslas should be warned of the risk that they may be killed or injured by these defects.
I believe investors should be warned that an investigation and recall by NHTSA could be damaging to the financial viability of Tesla.

There would be a lot more complaints except for the fact that Tesla pays off the owners and then slaps a Non Disclosure Agreement on them.
