  • Whether you are a salon owner renting chairs, or a salon stylist renting a chair, it is important that a well written booth rental agreement be established and agreed upon before working. This "contract" is a great way to explain in detail the negotiated work agreement.
    Details to include would be rental rate, hours of operation and indemnification of liability to name a few. The more details included in the agreement the better the document will serve both parties.

    Contracts might seem too formal for the salon but trust me they are necessary! Both owner and stylist need a clear outline of their work agreement before working. As always, let me know if you have any questions at all.

      First of all, You are awesome in giving information...I'm from India and I'm a hairstylist+barber...i have worked in bollywood, i have worked in Princess cruises...i have my own little salon in india but not organised because i want to work in USA or UK...can you suggest me how to start business with you if I'm coming there...any help you can so please do...

      @@abbysweet851 Thanks for the kind words, I really enjoy trying to help other stylists! The best advice I could offer you is to first try and work at a salon in the USA or UK prior to opening your own salon. You could rent a station or find a commission opportunity. Or if it's your absolute dream salon, I would even consider trying to assist a stylist. Regardless of which path you choose, you will need a dependable clientele to finance any independent salon endeavors in the future.

      Hi Samatha. So grateful with you. Thanks for such a a value information for us. I would like to know if we need to makr a contract when hiring an assistant as well? Thanks in advance!!

    • @SamanthaPiercy
      @SamanthaPiercy  Год назад

      @@arquitap This is a great question! I actually have never made a formal contract for an assistant but I am now definitely considering one. I think this is an excellent idea to have all your expectations written out and signed on.
      I will make a new video on this topic and soon as I make my new assistant contract! Thanks!

    • @SamanthaPiercy
      @SamanthaPiercy  Год назад

      @@arquitap Yes! I would for sure have one. I would lay out all the expectation and requirements on your assistant. I would list how many days they would be working and their hourly rate. I would include what you will be providing for them as well. Such as color training, models, hands on training ect. I would also include your write up policy, and include your trial period. I usually do a 30 trial run for any new potential assistant. If after (or even during the trial) i ever feel that they are not a good fit, then I will let them know. I clearly explain this before they start. If you have any other questions, let me know! Thanks for following along.

    Hi Samantha! Can you please share with me what you do as far as booth rent increases? Dollar amount or percentage, and is it at the start of the new year, a year from the stylists start date, etc…?

      Hey! To be honest it really is your preference. I personally do a yearly percentage increase based off of my lease rental increase. Every lease agreement is different, so I would consider your lease terms and increase rates accordingly to maintain your profit margin.

    This was really informative. I’m a first time booth rental stylist and I never received any written contract agreement. I have worked as a booth rental stylist for a year now. Is there any way for me to request one ? Or is that something that I can’t request?

    • @SamanthaPiercy
      @SamanthaPiercy  3 года назад

      Great question! I absolutely believe you should request a written booth rental agreement from your salon owner. Make sure it includes the topics discussed in detail in this video.
      In order for you to run your business successfully you need to know exactly what the salon expects of you as an individual owner. Transparency between both parties will lead to a more trustworthy and long lasting relationship.
      If you are hesitant about addressing the subject with the salon owner, reassure them that this document will benefit both parties. It's not intended to be an iron clad legal contract just an agreement to formalize the business relationship.
      Hope this helps. I'm really glad you enjoyed this video. If you have any other questions, please let me know!

      Sorry I am just now getting back to you on this one! For this type of situation, I have a three strike policy in writing between the stylist and salon.
      This signed contract outlines the types of actions that will warrant disciplinary action. Including but not limited to tardiness, cleaning duties and late rental policies. If a stylist receives three written notices in a calendar year, their lease agreement is immediately terminated.
      Hope this helps!

    Everything has to be in writing and checked and cleared by a lawyer. Anything short of that will be a major problem. Are there people that actually don’t have an agreement? I find that impossible to believe nobody could be that stupid.

    • @SamanthaPiercy
      @SamanthaPiercy  2 года назад

      I agree that everything should be reviewed by a legal professional. You should also weigh the cost of legal council in the event you need to enforce your agreement.
      I think you would be surprised how many people in the industry are working without a rental or commission agreement in writing!

      @@SamanthaPiercy that is pure stupidity! Anyone who doesn’t clearly should not be opening a business! Legal zoom has many of this agreements already done at very reasonable price. Anyone that doesn’t follow your advice is in for guaranteed problems.
