I was once told “Taking ADHD medication isn’t a matter of life or death… it’s a matter of life and living life.”
    Oh so true for me.

I started Concerta today. I’m a women and have struggled with what I now know is ADHD. I cried when I finally found an amazing psychiatrist that suggested I try Concerta to determine/confirm that I have adhd. It was like a lightbulb went off for the first time in my life! I want to live! I was so closed to ending my life. I was so exhausted from just trying to exist and that’s no way to live. We did a trial run with Ritalin immediate release and it worked! I’m so happy to now be in Concerta and I’m looking forward to LIVING!

Still working good? What is your dosage on Concerta?

I have taken Concerta 54mg for 22 years now. At the time it was a new medication, a 12 hour lasting one, better the Ritilan, Adderall etc. It's definitely made a difference, like you said yourself Patrick, as have other in the comment feed of your videos. Concerta still is and always will be a "potent" medication. It's aggressive, but it does its job. You learn to live with the side effects and find ways to work with them. I still think this was one of the better thought put medications to treat ADHD/ADD

Hello Trevor, 22 years wow! Thats amazing.Thank you for sharing your experience and insight, it gives me hope. Great to know that there are people who use it long term and get benefit from it :) Yeah true it does the job atleast for me. Havent tried any other meds, for now I m happy with this medication :)

I tried Elvanse for a month and it was very potent but I got a lot of side effects with it. This month I am on methylphenidate like you and the feeling is much milder. It definitely stabilises my mood and I get much less side effects but it's probably not as effective at helping my other ADHD issues like memory. For me I feel like I prefer methylphenidate for more daily long term usage but then a short release dexamphetamine would be great if I have meeting or lecture or something really important to focus on just for that day.
Unfortunately I don't think they will prescribe me both in combination for that purpose.

Hello Simon, thank you for sharing your experience. I have had this idea also, I told my doctor about maybe using 2 medications but he disagreed on this idea. It would be great to have option like that.

I was treated by 2 of these types of places until I moved. Now I pray after for each month services (w medication if appropriate) and I can do it by telephone with a checkup every few months, in person.

Very interesting video as always, thanks.
I’m hoping to get switched from Elvanse to Concerta soon as Elvanse isn’t giving much benefit for focus or motivation or emotional regulation. I’ve done titration on Elvanse and taking more doesn’t have additional positive effects.
I’m hoping to be one of the 25% of folks who do better on methylphenidate. Of the remaining 75%, 50% do well on either and 25% do better on amphetamines.
Definitely recommend anyone to try both options and see what’s best for you! There’s no way to predict this except for expensive genetic testing. If one seems to give a good effect, maybe the other would be even better!
Interested in any video you’d consider making on how you judge medication effectiveness. Maybe you take medication holidays and see adhd symptoms returning so you can judge it helping that way? Maybe you score your focus and productivity each day in work and use that as a way of assessing it?
I do the latter. I’d rate Elvanse as an overall 3 out of 10 as it takes a long time to get any effect from it (3 hours!) and any positive effects fade quickly (maybe 3 hours max). Hoping methylphenidate will be at least 8 out of 10! The ADDitude magazine says that’s what they think psychiatrists should aim for, so I’m definitely going to make a strong case to get switched to Concerta asap.
    Thank you again

Thank you Gerard for your kind words and also sharing your experience! I wish I had that option to try, but for now using only Concerta.
That is a great idea! I have taken small breaks, once I stopped completely and I did noticed that I was not the same in terms on productivity and general well being. I drank more coffee which made more more stressed and less calm which is not good.
I wish you luck and hope doctor will switch you to concerta and maybe it will work for you better? :)

@@ADHDPatrick thanks for your reply. Coffee does little for me … wish it worked bit better. I can have 4 cups and get a little focus for few hours. More coffee leads to headaches.
My prescription for Concerta is on the way to me as psychiatrist agreed I can switch! Yay. Hoping for great things :) Time will tell and I’ll be sure to leave another comment at some point on how it’s going.
Best of luck and looking forward to your next video.

    Watch Dr. Huberman.
I think it might be possible to take breaks. Definitely pray about it and God will help you. I recently went back on. Off for 5 months. It was the hardest thing ever being off. I think if i didnt have a three year old i could have went longer. With a lot of cold showers and life style changes. I wanted to workout but had no energy most days. And some anxiety not knowing when it would show up. I pray everyday and trust God with my life now.
