Sarah and Andrew climbed up Trencrom Hill, The view was outstanding oh what a thrill, with Buns in his pockets and one in his hat, that cheeky boy Andrew steered the way with his map. From lost to found the routes we admire, and even the challenge of Sarah’s encounter with barbed wire ! Anxiety rises when cows do persist, is it those those buns they cannot resist ? Ah but All ends well, oh what a hoot, one thing left though .... clean the sh*t off those boots.
I absolutely loved this video! Omg! The cows bring back nerve wracking memories of an experience I had last year walking through a field of them near where I live at dusk. They followed me on a path and some blocked my way on the path, so I took a step off the path onto what looked like solid ground, but it was a bog and I sank into it like quick sand, half way up my legs. While I was in the bog, the cows (probably around 20) circled around me. I feared I would never get out safely. Every time I tried to move it felt like the bog was sucking my shoes off and it was so difficult to move, the only way to get free from the middle of the circle was to walk through past two cows when I finally freed myself. Somehow I did so and of course the whole herd started to follow me. I knew where the exit was so walked slowly to it, as I knew that they would adjust their pace to my pace. I was so relieved to get out of that field and your reactions were similar to mine. I had to walk through my housing estate dripping in bog goo! Thankfully it was getting dark so no one could see what a state I was! I have been quite nervous of cows since! I loved all the puns (and buns) in this video. I have enjoyed quite a few of your videos! I can fully appreciate how much time and effort must go into making them, so thank you so much for all the enjoyment you give to so many people.
Totally understand the cow anxiety....got chased once out of a field and only just made it 😱. Can't believe the mud... imagine what it's going to be like when we get a significant amount of rain. Your boots were well and truly christened Andrew 😋. Looked like a fun walk though thanks to Jim ✊😁💝😘
I'm a postman who lives in Hayle. Postbox keys are all different and a lot are big old heavy ones! So could be the originals. I think the estates department of royal mail keep copies, but I'm sure not all of them!
Mud, Mud, glorious mud, OM Goodness me……The views from Trencrom were wonderful, the walk was an adventure but so interesting and the MUD was another story. Interested Cows and so much more, well worth another watch - loved it - hope the boots survived…..

This one was quite the adventure! I kept thinking of the unsavory smuggler, Mr. Trencrom, from Poldark. Incredible view. I was thrilled to learn that you went on walks "from the newspaper" with your Mum and Dad, Sarah. Such a great hobby. After you mentioned the scallop (or cockle) shell, I recalled that pilgrims to Campostela wore those shells. So much ancient history along this walk. I can imagine your stress over the cows (and potential bull!!!) after the five mile mark. By then my patience would be just about done. Sorry you had to brave the mud in your pretty pink and white walking boots. Hope you had supper delivered, and spent the rest of the evening with your feet up. :)

Really enjoyed that walk/adventure thanks to Jim.the mud the cows ,the panic reminded me of a family walk I had in Northumberland. We ended up in a muddy field cattle seemed to appear from nowhere and started towards us ,it was so frightening, we too couldn't find a way out.we had to climb over a fence in the end ,it took 3 of us to lift my aunt over.once we were out and safe we laughed so much and we still talk about it years later.what a view from the top of that hill it was amazing !
Sarah and Andrew, we really enjoy watching your channel. We live in New Zealand and your adventures take us back to the wonderful time we spent in Cornwall in both 2011 and 2018. Your adventures with the cows remind us of the time we tried to visit Carn Euny Ancient Village in the South West. We too tried to cross a very muddy paddock that was occupied by a herd of cows, but I became too uncomfortable when the cows started to show interest in us, so we beat a hasty retreat. Fortunately there was another, slightly longer but drier route to the site. Sadly when we finally got there there was a pack of four or five large stray dogs wandering around the site and we deemed it unsafe to stay, so we never got to look around. Would love to see you visit the village and fogou there if you are ever in that area. You probably know of the site, but if not, it is managed by the Cornwall Heritage trust and information about it is available on the English Heritage website. What a trek! ~ hats off to you both for your sheer stamina. I share your vigilance around cattle...once, on a walk in Leicestershire I lost sight of the footpath and crossed a field of what I thought were cows, realizing too late they were bulls (lots), and I got stampeded, only just escaping by clambering up a small tree, grazing my shins. And they were stubborn, waiting at the bottom of the tree for 1/2 hour! (me up the tree in drizzling rain!). Regarding Andrew's bun smuggling tactics: all a storm in a B-cup :)
The walking group I am in , is doing this walk tomorrow. You mentioned the four lanes mast,that's nearly in our back garden. Oohh ,that looks a climb !!!! I don't think I should have watched you first ,before tackling it !!!! Wish me luck .
I did get lost and had to cut a crossed some open land in Cornwall . But as it got dark i did see a road that had a lot of cars going each way so i did head to it and then was not so lost . Thank God i did know that road .

Trencom Hill is a volcanic pipe that contains poor mans sapphires or carborundum . The White Hart at Ludgvan , one of the oldest pubs in Cornwall ,once had oil lamps on the bar to illuminate the pub .
Highly entertaining! I love all of your walks,but this one showed me your improvisational skills best. Since I'm hoping to walk through parts of Cornwall next year, I hope to have the same sense...and less puns.😁

Well, it's quite some time since you two got lost in the mud in Cornwall! Think this vid had a bit of everything in it including some unwanted attachments 💩 on your new boots! I watch someone else on YT who is always running scared of cows 🐮🐮... although they are fab to look at they can be quite daunting to come across when you are alone with them in a field...and thank goodness the Bull seemed to have been on the other side of that slope! Lovely hike and scenery, but a bit more like an assault course in places. Bet Jim's watching between his fingers in places!! wondering what on earth he's navigated for you 😲....didn't think you were going to make it over that barbed wire fencing Sarah! Well done anyway & entertaining as always! :-)) x J x
Well, cows nearly done in Doc Martin , on the barbwire ( in the last episode ) and they nearly ended your career as film makers. Always evaluate the herd before crossing too far across a field and NEVER walk between a new calf and its mother. Great film as ever .
If you are a bit unsure of where you should be walking or looking for a official foot path, you could just go into one of the farmer's yards and politely ask whoever is there. I've never yet met anybody not happy to help you find your way! I think the farming folk would far rather you did that, then go somewhere unsuitable for your safety and sometimes the animals too where different incidences can occur. Once ,a farmer's wife made us a hot drink and then gave us a lesson on successfully climbing over 5 bar gates!! The secret is to only attempt to climb it once you are firmly holding onto one of the posts with both hands. I still can't believe I had never realised that before!
It is important to remember that, sooner or later, when walking in Cornwall, especially when you have 'left' the path, you will come face-to-face with "Cow-Megeddon". (Often with rusty barbed wire hemming you in...

And it is not compatible with my Windows pc. I have tried to convert it into a zip-file but it doesn't work. I have searched for help online but I cannot open it properly for the life of me. I get a little snippet of text and some indivitual photo files. I'd be very happy if you could convert the document into a pdf file and resend it 🥰 But if that isn't possible; I'll try to walk in Jim's footsteps and google the area for more info 😊 The video explained a lot though, and you never know when to encounter neither cows nor mud 😵💫😊 Thank you 🥰
Wow! How high did that rate on the mud-o-meter. Not so much a walk, more of a yomp. Perhaps you could score it by the number of saffron buns needed to complete😋. The remains of the round houses you refer to can be spotted on google earth to the west of where you parked your car. And yes Andrew, as a retired postie, I can confirm that every post box has a different key. The longer the round the heavier the bunch.

Have you reported this walk to the local “Rights of Ways” at the Local Authority? This is a blatant attempt by land owners to prevent public access to footpaths. Land owners have a responsibility to maintain access, useable stiles and underfoot conditions. I know some landowners don’t like public walking on their land but if paths are marked accurately and maintained to a reasonable standard the vast majority of walkers will happily follow the correct route. I will be in that part of Cornwall in June 23 so will check it out for myself? Incidentally, try using the OS maps online. Costs £25 per year and you can never be lost as the map has a continually updating pointer indicating your position on your phone. Well worth using if you are unsure if you are on the right route.
I think I said all of this off camera!! Google maps gives your location too and paper maps work so much better on video, much easier to point, and no reflection!! Sarah :)
Enjoyed this. However very dismayed at the stare of paths, sinage and stiles in the uk. There is no point in trying to encourage walking as a health benefit when Councils and land owners conspire against it. In Germany all footpaths are clearly marked, maintained and have the destination and distance. Sorry rant over but if I was Hayle District Council I would be ashamed if I saw the lack of sinage. We can build endless retail centres but not seemingly enable people to walk. Second rant over.
It is a shame! I totally agree, and I fear that people won’t wake up to the situation until it’s too late and landowners take the opportunity to prevent public access. We will retire then! Sarah :)

Wow! How high did that rate on the mud-o-meter. Not so much a walk, more of a yomp. Perhaps you could score it by the number of saffron buns needed to complete😋. The remains of the round houses you refer to can be spotted on google earth to the west of where you parked your car. And yes Andrew, as a retired postie, I can confirm that every post box has a different key. The longer the round the heavier the bunch.

Have you reported this walk to the local “Rights of Ways” at the Local Authority?
This is a blatant attempt by land owners to prevent public access to footpaths. Land owners have a responsibility to maintain access, useable stiles and underfoot conditions. I know some landowners don’t like public walking on their land but if paths are marked accurately and maintained to a reasonable standard the vast majority of walkers will happily follow the correct route.
I will be in that part of Cornwall in June 23 so will check it out for myself?
Incidentally, try using the OS maps online. Costs £25 per year and you can never be lost as the map has a continually updating pointer indicating your position on your phone. Well worth using if you are unsure if you are on the right route.
I think I said all of this off camera!! Google maps gives your location too and paper maps work so much better on video, much easier to point, and no reflection!! Sarah :)
Enjoyed this. However very dismayed at the stare of paths, sinage and stiles in the uk. There is no point in trying to encourage walking as a health benefit when Councils and land owners conspire against it. In Germany all footpaths are clearly marked, maintained and have the destination and distance. Sorry rant over but if I was Hayle District Council I would be ashamed if I saw the lack of sinage. We can build endless retail centres but not seemingly enable people to walk. Second rant over.
You should fire off a letter or two off to the Council...it's disgraceful what the landowners/Farmers get away with.
It is a shame! I totally agree, and I fear that people won’t wake up to the situation until it’s too late and landowners take the opportunity to prevent public access. We will retire then! Sarah :)
