That line “Read between the lines like when the spelling be wrong”. He’s pronouncing Read like “red” like when a teacher put red marker marks when you misspell a word
It was a triple entendre. Read (red) between the lines, but also read between the lines, as in understanding what is missing. But also, if you listen to his old music "read between the lines" meaning hope you ain't following me word for word, and instead interpreting what he meant.
was a great ode to doeburger. enjoyed pretty much every track except for "go pro". the way he did the peace verse was amazing. also loved the sequencing/transitions throughout. fav 5 currently 9 mile california dream don julio 70 saudi sweats sky is limitless
One of my favorite parts is California dream, the echoing of the Mac miller beat from Faces, plus Vince and soul being good friends of Mac was a nice tribute
I'm just going to throw this out there for those that do not know but Fresh is formally known as Smoke Dawg and he used to be signed to young money back in 07 to to about 2015 when he changed his name to Fre$h and signed to 2 Chainz. Also, he is from Texas, and his most famous mixtape is Adventures of Drankenstein, released in 2011. Dude, has been in the game for almost 2 decades, if not longer.
This is a 5/10 album I'm sorry. #1 Control System #2 Long-term 2 #3 These Days #4 Long term Mentality #5 Herbert #6 Soul Burger #7 Do Wit They Wit #8 Long-term
Herbert was much better project for me. I’m with Rod on this , there was some massive misses for me that takes the highs of the project down. I keep saying it I hope Soulo get his slap to play at festivals but this wasn’t for me 🤷🏾♂️
@@alexfdezpal it wasnt DJ Hed tbf, Ab Soul himself said it on the rollout for Herbert( on Joe budden pod) too. It isn’t new. His man Doeburger rip didn’t listen to his music much and neither does a lot of his homies( according to him) . soul talked about his shows being people standing and listening more then dancing and singing along. He also spoke about how not having a song to play at the Pop out, I think they could’ve done “Illuminate” and Vice City us hip hop nerds would’ve loved it but I also get it . Ab soul wants some mainstream love. Personally I think that ship has sailed and he needs to feed his core more but what do I know just some guy online 😂
I wanted to note that Ab-Soul brought Fre$h on tour as his opener for the Herbert run. I wanna say they even teased their track on this Soul Burger project during the show but my memory is fuzzy on it. Stellar album I agree only real miss is Go Pro for me
5:10 “I hope you read(red) between the lines as if the spelling was wrong” that’s a reference to how the red lines pop up under a word you spell wrong on a computer or phone
I will not follow people on instagram. cause the simple fact I don't care what others do why am I gonna follow people when I have my own family 2 Take care of. Why scan through people stuff and waste your time looking thru profiles screw that. I follow my brother wife mother and father that's it. Appreciate the review fellas
I would give this album a 7 out of 10. I wasn't too happy with the album direction or the sounds as a whole. Rappin was 10, but hooks was meh most of the time. I'm glad Ab Soul dropped the record overall
It's got a few misses, but the highlights are so amazing. The overarching theme of bridging his and Doeburgers' identities was very engaging. I only wish he went even deeper with the idea.
This album was really dope. It’s really hard to say if this is better than Herbert. Moonshooter is probably my favorite Ab song. Top songs 9 Mile. California Dream. Saudi Sweats. Squeeze 1st 2 best song, Reminds me of DWTW. Crazier. B.U.C.K.O. Jr. yall trippin on that, he rapped his ass off on an iconic beat. Like the references to wayne and Em and even Kenan & Kel. While there were lows here, Herbert had one of his worst songs up there. Regardless, I like this momentum he came across. It’s hard to top Control System or even DWTW.
Yea this album wasn’t it for me. And I wanna like it because of how much I liked Herbert. I wasn’t expecting him to drop this album at all and now I’m just wishing he never did. Glad those who liked it got what they wanted from it but outside of 9 mile, I got nothing from this project
I only listened to this once so i have to give it a few more spins but i wasn't too impressed on first listen. I thought Herbert was way better on first listen. Still listen to Herbert today.
What bothers me about this album is the pacing and structure of many of the songs. There is just a ton of spaces where nothing interesting is happening and Soul could easily be using those spaces to rap more, and it's frustrating because he's legitimately one of the best rappers. Cut down some of these intros and give me more bars!
yo thiis how you shoot lol my next partner shooting like this every time hahah love when y'all dig into the music, even if y'all dont like the beat ahaha
Im not really into soul anymore. Something about his music just doesnt appeal to me nowadays. I was younger back in the day so matbe thats what it was idk. Good for him on trying to find a new sound to make his music more appealing to the masses but its not for me.
Dnd, Don Julio, Go Pro and Saudi Sweats I just took off Spotify as a whole lol. I don’t mind him making raunchy/ nasty songs but he just didn’t execute them well here imo. He’s got other sexual songs that are way better content wise and beat wise. Other than those 4 tracks, it’s on repeat
This album has some of Ab-Souls best rapping in years personally…but something about it also feels empty. I can’t really explain it Because the production is also great as well, in some respects better than Herbert.
Coming from Herbert this album was underwhelming, I know Soul is trying to make “hits” and make more catchy songs but I didn’t connect with it. The second half is way better than the first.
Fresh is Dash from Huey Knew he changed his name. Maaaan Sky Is Limitless was a hit to me despite the hook not being as good as the original. Made me nostalgic. rip to DJ Clark Kent
@@Newportnews98yea I’m tired of fans always saying “this is too deep for you” or “yall just ain’t woke enough to fw this”. Maybe just maybe we don’t like it because we don’t fw it sonically. The production is levels below the production on Herbert. Production matters
Lmao beezy said “the beat switch, the sweet bitch”
I was cracking up loooool!
Had to rewind it a few times
That line “Read between the lines like when the spelling be wrong”. He’s pronouncing Read like “red” like when a teacher put red marker marks when you misspell a word
Reading levels are low in this country so lines like this go over people’s heads 🙄
when u spell a word wrong there is a red line under the word
It was a triple entendre. Read (red) between the lines, but also read between the lines, as in understanding what is missing. But also, if you listen to his old music "read between the lines" meaning hope you ain't following me word for word, and instead interpreting what he meant.
I’m 100% with Ken on this one!……dam I think I’m getting old 😢
Also, genuinely think that I have an addiction to “Righteous Man” 🔥🔥🔥
A very solid and good project by Soul. 9 mile is a dope opening track
9:18 Soul did expand on the meaning of B.U.C.K.O in the lyrics when he said “Born Under Chaos, Keepin’ Order.”

Personally this album keeps getting better with each spin. Only track I'm good with is Go Pro but overall a great project. Long live Doeburger 🍔
My identical reaction. That's my only skip, but the rest of the album is great and does get better.
Nah
was a great ode to doeburger. enjoyed pretty much every track except for "go pro". the way he did the peace verse was amazing. also loved the sequencing/transitions throughout.
fav 5 currently
9 mile

I love saudi sweats. Sing it every time it's on
One of my favorite parts is California dream, the echoing of the Mac miller beat from Faces, plus Vince and soul being good friends of Mac was a nice tribute
People thought I was slippin' when I said TDE would stay on top... added to the fact that Kenny basically hasn't gone anywhere.
BTW Fre$h was dope on "Gang'N'em" off _Herbert_ too.

And was on “Herbert” that they remember so fondly… and These Days as Short Dawg. Been around forever.
Very disappointed in this album 4 listens in. Very little reply value aside from the first joint and righteous man.
Other than Go Pro, I thought this album was amazing, especially the later half!
The wait it over!! My AOTY!!!!!
This is a 5/10 album I'm sorry.

Take Go Pro out and the album is flawless.
Facts
Herbert was much better project for me. I’m with Rod on this , there was some massive misses for me that takes the highs of the project down.
I keep saying it I hope Soulo get his slap to play at festivals but this wasn’t for me 🤷🏾♂️
I dont even understand the narrative about the slaps that DJ Hed started. FOMF is way more of a slap than anything on here

When breezy start his review before Feefo can even start you know it's good lmao
Rod tripping on Bucko jr

Wanted to see some love from the critic world, this album was too good! Thank you y’all!
Get rid of Go Pro. Not enough talk about the transition from DND into Don Julio 70
Herbert was 100x better for me.
I would give this album a 7 out of 10. I wasn't too happy with the album direction or the sounds as a whole.
Rappin was 10, but hooks was meh most of the time. I'm glad Ab Soul dropped the record overall
Soulo got us one of Lupe’s best verses ever. They really must be tight to get him to even do a feature these days
I agree with Ken & Rob this album was 🗑️ the beats where all over the place , there where no sense of cohesion / direction
Hated GoPro at first but the beat kept me coming back. Very dope psychedelic vibe
Soulo been on a nice run for me he's last 3 albums been dope
It's got a few misses, but the highlights are so amazing. The overarching theme of bridging his and Doeburgers' identities was very engaging. I only wish he went even deeper with the idea.
Yeah Herbert is better but this still a solid album man!! This was Lowkey a great year for hip hop!!!
Maaannn yall trippin BUCKO JR was great
Bucko Jr was ridiculous
Wasn't feeling this at all. Maybe one track I really mess with.
Vince fucking bodied that verse that’s crazy man
This album you gotta play straight through… and to me, when you do… its hiphop AOTY
This album was really dope. It’s really hard to say if this is better than Herbert. Moonshooter is probably my favorite Ab song. Top songs

This album is aight. His last album was way better. HERBERT!
TDE’s marketing has been absolute ass since 2018.
Yea it’s been terrible. They just release albums with very little roll out. I had no idea Ab Soul was even dropping this year smh
Their whole marketing has been "hey, this is a Kendrick friend" and thats it
They ain’t got Kendrick anymore to help with the funding 😂
This is ab soul he on gods time and he a vessel he the reason Kendrick won he the
I only listened to this once so i have to give it a few more spins but i wasn't too impressed on first listen. I thought Herbert was way better on first listen. Still listen to Herbert today.
Herbert was better, but this is good.
Take out Go Pro and DND, this album is top tier
I personally prefer Herbert over this
I also believe this is the only Solo TDE project with no TDE features
Edit: Na nvm I’m deadass wrong lol
Does Punch count? He’s raps on every Soul project…
Also, Doechii is on it

Don Julio is so trash. I have no idea why anyone is making a song like that in 2024.
This album has some of Ab-Souls best rapping in years personally…but something about it also feels empty. I can’t really explain it
Because the production is also great as well, in some respects better than Herbert.
where do you guys have Ab-Souls albums ranked from best to worse?
This album is very disappointing nothing really grabbed me.
Right exactly
Agreed
Disagree massively. Album is solid
Feel the same way it was pretty mediocre.
It makes me so sad. I want to like it. I still play Herbert.
I like Bucko Jr
The bald guy with the glasses seems to not like anything
Coming from Herbert this album was underwhelming, I know Soul is trying to make “hits” and make more catchy songs but I didn’t connect with it. The second half is way better than the first.
Thought that line was a triple entendre diss at drake
yall should review LaRussell
The soul burger be juicy 😳
🗣️SOUL
Idk how they hate on dnd either
Fresh is Dash from Huey Knew he changed his name. Maaaan Sky Is Limitless was a hit to me despite the hook not being as good as the original. Made me nostalgic. rip to DJ Clark Kent
fresh used to go by short dawg. he was on gang'nem off of herbert
Fresh is Short Dog from Young Money back in the day
Only those who enlightened can fw ab soul if u not every project not for you
Naw this album sonically isn’t good

For me, this is the worst soulo album 😢
Albums beyond trash yall know it!
😂
Yea I think people afraid to admit how bad the album is because it’s Ab Soul. We gotta start being real. This ain’t it
