The first time l saw the guys was about this era, late 1979. I met Jimmy at the bar after the gig and he asked if we were going again the following night. We said no because we couldnt afford to go two nights running. He said just come down and l will get you in. We thought he'd forget about it but true to his word he came out and found us.
So good. Fantastic recording from Chisel's early days, between the first two albums. Typically, on a couple of the new songs, Jimmy is making up some lyrics as he goes along, without missing a beat.
Yeah ,but for the finest piece of Aussie TV,Barnsy was on the panel that night on the ABC,s Q n A Show ,but at the end of the show Jimmy Barnes ,sang Working Class Man,with just a keyboard player and bass player, any fans of the man check it out on ABC IVIEW,Its somethin else!!
I think jimmy's voice was at it's best when heard in cold chisel written songs......his solo efforts are awesome in themselves but he truly excelled when all the Chisel members were contributing
Not sure about at its best. Surely Raw and such feeling. Louder and faster!!! Certainly I prefer his rawness up to about the nineties. Still think he is fkn Fantastic. :)
Songs like conversations and showtime are all time rock classics with master lyrics fk knows why they don't play on the radio instead of some of the crap....
All feeding off each other...Bon Scott, James Reyne, Shirley Strachan, Darryl Braithwaite, Billy Thorpe, Ross Wilson, John Farnham, even the Finn brothers from NZ...and who'd forget Johnny O'Keefe and Stevie Wright...what a pedigree
@ALF782 they played my highschool. Granville south high school nsw around this time. Supporting "dragon" I remember "can't get enough" and " midnight rambler" they played.
Fantastic, Chisel at their best. We were very lucky to have bands of the likes of Chisel, The Angels, Rose Tattoo and Midnight Oil at the same time and The Aztecs before that. Made my day seeing this.
Cold Chisel at their best. Got to love Ian's guitar ,pure Stratocaster through a Marshall amp no effects . I had the pleasure of doing his re-fret when I worked at Rock Repairs in Bexley Boy could he play guitar ..still does 😎 I drove him once from Trafalgar Studio in Annandale to Kings Cross in fact he had just worked on this song One Long Day I watched Steve Prestwich play the timpani drums . On the way to Kings Cross I asked Ian to show me how to play "Angie" I had an acoustic guitar on the back seat of my Morris Nomad which Ian grabbed and so I took it slowly to Kings Cross trying to stop at every red light . It was a great experience . I became an instant fan when I saw them in 1976 at the Bondi Lifesaver Sydney.

Thanks for taking the time to pin all of the songs. Much appreciated. I spend a lot if time going through Chisel and Jimmy material. No better way to pass the time 🎉🎉
Like so many I went to many, many, many Chisel gigs in this era. They were always that awesome!!! Jimmy's torn shirt? Was his "Sunday Best" lol I am so lucky to have been around back in the day. Of course I went to Chisel shows later down the track and although the music just kept getting more awesome, nothing beats Sunday Night at the Bondi Lifesaver here in Sydney - affectionately known as The Swap!!!
This is my favourite Cold Chisel concert of all time! Unfortunately there seems to be some songs missing; I remember seeing a snippet of Home And Broken Hearted from this on a Foxtel doco awhile back. Why was it omitted, I wonder?
Yeah Casey good upload & Rosemary's right who would ever give Cold Chisel a hands down.......not me i'll tell you that.......this band never got what they dezerved, overlooked pure talent & boy does Jimmy Barnes have some powerful vocals.
Finally, ive been looking for this live cut of Mossy playing the guitar solo on Khe Sahn for ever. Probably the first time i saw it on Foxtel Music Chanel when i was 16. (7 years ago) Thanks mate, this is wonderfull
Warms my heart to see younger folk appreciate Chisel. I’m 50yo btw. Discovered chisel when I was 16yo with the seminal album Razor Songs. That’s the best chisel albums but only true fans knows about it.
wot a frikn great OZ band , there are so many , The Church are my fav , but shit these guys are right up their arse !! a Beatles / Stones kinda thing !!😛
Just a short note to all those made up Rock God guitarists in the 21st Century. Sorry boys and girls but it already been done. Just take in the playing of this bloke.
Well I never. Daskazine is about drugs? I used to read the lyrics from the gate fold of the record cover, and I never clicked. Just a country boy I guess.
Oh my, no Marshall for mossy, through a fender twin. Better strat sound inmho. You can hear the timber of that soon to be stripped of its fiesta red finish guitar

Yeah, they were all down to earth guys. Jimmy shook my hand outside Festival Hall Brisbane circa 1982. Great songs, great live.

wow this is available to enjoy .... thank you all
Jimmy's voice was at its best in those days. Love this piece of history and Aussie culture.

saw chisel heaps of times in this era, and they were just the best live act going round.
Yeah.
Dresden live here is just RIGHTEOUS
Wish I was old enough to see them in this era. Fucken love them.
Yeah. 👍🏼
In this same year 1978 they played at my school's Meadowbank Boys High dance, they played mainly rock covers though.
@ALF782 they played my highschool. Granville south high school nsw around this time. Supporting "dragon" I remember "can't get enough" and " midnight rambler" they played.
Ian Moss is ALL over the strat here, and the blues guitar. He kicks total arse.
Checkout Ian's solo in the live version of 'Rosaline' from the Ringside Tour. Fucking superb.
Always thought how does he play that thin Strat neck with those big hands
Fantastic, Chisel at their best. We were very lucky to have bands of the likes of Chisel, The Angels, Rose Tattoo and Midnight Oil at the same time and The Aztecs before that. Made my day seeing this.
Roscoe Macpherson it will never be that good again. Was a great time to be growing up.
lets throw The Radiators in there as well, the greatest ever touring band the world has seen....still touring today
So very well put Roscoe!
Australian Crawl, The Saints, The Church, Split Enz...endless list
Yep. 👍🏼
saw the band at pleasures wine bar quite a few times. always a killer show.
Fuck me, what a beautiful piece of history.
I remember this well... 1st big taste of my favorite ever band. I was 12
Ian moss one of my favourite musicians of all time.he has his own style.
Dresden Blues - what a great song.
I've got Dresden set as my ringtone. Sometimes I don't answer calls because I'd rather keep listening to Mossy's sublime solos.

Chisel are the kings of rock, bar none. Mossy and Barnesy placed together by God to show the world how it's done
Fuggen best band ever.
Dresden is in my top 5 for Chisel album tracks, just epic guitar sounds
First time l have heard 'One Long Day'. So very good. Some very neat guitar, and a bluesy voice.
Like so many I went to many, many, many Chisel gigs in this era. They were always that awesome!!! Jimmy's torn shirt? Was his "Sunday Best" lol I am so lucky to have been around back in the day. Thankyou so much Casey. Lifelong Chisel fan since the 1970's and finds like this are gold. Your a good person for sharing this one.
I love the side eye look of disdain that Jim used to give
Kings cross I was there what a suprise
Fuck knows why they never play this any more, great song, the true raw grit of Chisel
so true...
This is my favourite Cold Chisel concert of all time! Unfortunately there seems to be some songs missing; I remember seeing a snippet of Home And Broken Hearted from this on a Foxtel doco awhile back. Why was it omitted, I wonder?

I can never watch this concert enough.
Your always in my heart Mac ❤️I’ll love you forever
Great to see Mossy tearing it apart on his battered red Fender. Awesome.
I wonder if Ian still has that strat. That guitar has seen such a life already.
Chisel 1978!....say no more :)
*CLASSIC SPEED ANND ROCK N ROLL*

Yeah Casey good upload & Rosemary's right who would ever give Cold Chisel a hands down.......not me i'll tell you that.......this band never got what they dezerved, overlooked pure talent & boy does Jimmy Barnes have some powerful vocals.

Thanks mate, this is wonderfull
I noticed they played it a bit differently too...the guitar rhythm is different
Warms my heart to see younger folk appreciate Chisel. I’m 50yo btw. Discovered chisel when I was 16yo with the seminal album Razor Songs. That’s the best chisel albums but only true fans knows about it.

@@bybrynnmarshall would of thought 10 or more

and yes i know he has more than one
Well I never. Daskazine is about drugs? I used to read the lyrics from the gate fold of the record cover, and I never clicked. Just a country boy I guess.
Pretty sure Mossy thought he was going to get a second solo verse on Khe Sahn
APJardine Also looked like barnsey wanted to finish the song a progression early too :)
Back when jimmy had an Aussie accent
Better then Ray or Boris.
Oh my, no Marshall for mossy, through a fender twin. Better strat sound inmho. You can hear the timber of that soon to be stripped of its fiesta red finish guitar
