Agreed. This watch is for those that are more interested in craftsmanship than in publicly flexing. This has been on my shortlist for a while. It’s one of those, “if you know you know” watches for true enthusiasts.
The fact that this watch is under the radar and overlooked is a benefit for those in the know but I guess it’s not bought for an investment or resale. Stunning watch.
That’s the kind of watches that I like, the one that is not recommended by everyone, I love the brand, Glashütte Original is one of my grail brand and watches!
Just to confirm, the problem with this watch has nothing to do with the watch? I agree, the problem with this watch is the "watch collecting" community. If you're buying a watch for the brand cache or the value retention, then you're prioritizing your purchase for attributes that aren't inherently part of a watch. This is fine, but it does limit your options in regard to actual watch attributes that you might otherwise enjoy. I.e. colors, shapes, styles, complications, finishes, craftsmanship, etc.
Total agree. Brand recognition maybe down to lack of marketing, but G.O. should not be mentioned in the same breath as Breitling or Panerai, it’s way above those.
I agree mostly with what you’re saying but also, the average consumer, that is on a budget of sorts, needs to be a little judicious about their purchases. The wealthy don’t need to worry about such things because the motive changes, pockets are deeper :-). I would love to have a 5980R, solely based on the craftsmanship and the design language - not to show off, etc - for my enjoyment….but that’s not in my budget wheelhouse. My watch box has Seiko, Zenith, Casio, Timex, Tag Heurer, Tissot, Rolex, and Omega in it. And because of the ridiculous availability games I’ve stopped looking for new buys. But when I do purchase I do consider value retention, I don’t want to piss away my hard earned money :-). And some of those brands in my box don’t have good value retention and that’s ok but I did weigh it in my purchasing decision. When you consider the suggested retail price on the hang tags, that number is an optimal profit price for the retailer. The wholesaler made their money. So think how ridiculous it is for someone willing to pay 2x, 3x or more in the gray market - that I don’t get. But I think consumers are getting used to being fleeced so it becomes a situation of less sensitivity to high prices because one is choosing the lesser of the ridiculous prices. So those buying into the hype watches going above retail will fawn over something else that is less overpriced and conclude it is a value proposition 🤣. It seems that every watch manufactured has jumped on that band wagon and raised the retail prices across the board. I don’t blame them, if the suckers want to pay extra, let them pay extra. I used to consider myself a watch enthusiast but the current market has turned my off. I love all my watches, they each scratch a different itch but I find that I don’t do any serious shopping and get my fix on RUclips lol. But I hope one day things will normalize and we can go back to just enjoying the hobby.
Not sure why it doesn't get more love. I've loved mine for years now and have had watches from most of the big brands and few ever have put a smile on my face as consistently as my PML it feels special to put on every single time. One thing I noticed is a lot of people "play it safe" when they pick watches. There's a thread on TRF right now about the JLC master control calendar chrono and out of like 20 posts 5 or so people said "amazing watch - it's on my shortlist". I guarantee none or maybe 1 of them will ever actually buy it tho because it's a JLC and brands like JLC, GO, Breguet, GS etc. will forever be respected by the watch community for the amazing propositions they offer but still somehow that same community will never pull the trigger on them. I'm not afraid to pull the trigger though so glad everyone keeps the good stuff widely available for me.
because slick salesmen selling rolex made it appear that buying a midrange watch is an investment. and rolex and the gray marketing arms and some pr youtuber/reviewers are in on the scam. they have completely destroyed the market for genuine horology.
Picked this watch up this past fall. The green is amazing ad the movement, finishing, dial, and bracelet are exquisite. People should just buy what they love and having an amazing green watch in the collection is awesome.
Absolute steals when had with a typical AD discount. The senator series is also very underrated. I think it's so cool to show up at an event or watch society meeting with something people rarely see. These GO's fit the bill and are beautiful portals into the world of higher end horology. Great inro and photography as always BW!
Stunning watch. As for your question re why people don’t go for it I just think they simply don’t appreciate how exceptional they are. This watch is on my 5 watch collection list alongside my Grand Seiko Snowflake and Yachtmaster Rhodium, with the JLC Reverso Tribute Duoface Calendar and Omega Speedmaster 321. I just think I’ll get the GO next if I’m honest.
Another beautifully designed and crafted watch from Glasutte Original - I've always yearned to own their 70s model. I think overall though this watch is for people who've had the Rolex, Omega etc experience for some time and are searching beyond that now maybe. It may get some negative comparisons to the AL&S 1 but I do at least prefer the more open panomatic date window of the GO - without the number separation.
Beautiful watch- no doubt. GO offers alot for the money pre-owned. I've owned 4 GOs and have a SeaQ has a daily wearer. I love this watch but I know I'll scratch the crap out of it so I prefer divers with ceramic bezels. If you love watches and craftsmanship just hard to beat.
Glashutte Original definitely beautiful watch. Love the open back. A bargain compared to A. Lang & Sohne. Definitely the green dial looks impressive. Considering buying to my collection 🤔
Beautiful watch from a brand that I think is indeed underrated. Being German myself, I've been very attracted to some of their models, though I've never owned one as yet. As to why they are so underrated, at least in the international market (they are very respected in Germany): 1) Some of their most iconic designs do indeed come across as mere Lange ripoffs at 1/10th of the price. Which is nothing to sneer at, but when you carry the word "original" in your company name, making these high-end homage watches just doesn't do much for your brand cachet. 2) "Weird" name with an umlaut that's hard to pronounce. 3) As Christian and Michael recently pointed out on Theo & Harris: The brand doesn't have a compelling backstory, at least not one that they openly tell and advertise on their website. Again, being German, I know about their brand history and background, and I really wonder why they don't use it more aggressively in their marketing, because it is basically a beautiful story of the rebirth of a venerable old brand and ultimately of a whole industry. 4) They don't really concentrate on and advertise one particular "strong suit" of the brand, which makes them appear a bit impersonal to many collectors. I think they should go all in on their dials, which are stunning and very complicated to make, and really stand out from the competition at this price point. I really loved the orange "Eye of Sauron" Sixties original from a few years back. They could basically be something of the German Grand Seiko if they emphasized this aspect more. Again, most of these aspects have much more to do with marketing than with the brand itself, which makes beautiful watches that carry a lot of value.
I love this watch and in this color, and saw one used for around 7k. Seriously thought about it, but the thing that held me back was committing to one high quality and high horology piece that would make my other dress watches superfluous, but wouldn’t likely be a daily wear piece. I feel like a lot of people look for something that would be more universally wearable at 8k - 10k if they’re making that big purchase, so a Rolex or Breitling or Omega or even GS may get the nod even where they might not be on the same level technically.
@@Tangylives I know. And about 6 months back I was on the fence about a senator 39mm big date (with the silver dial) for under 3500$. Kicking myself that I let both of those deals go…
@@Tangylives I’ve got my white PML for 6.5k€ fully covered with stickers brand new. It must be frustrating trying to sell GO, because the demand is so low. But that’s better for watch enthusiasts like us. ;)
I have this watch on the Nubuck strap. Such a beautiful dial and movement. I also have the SeaQ 39.5. Their glidelock is much better than Rolex IMO. GO makes some amazing watches
Thanks for showcasing this stunner. You're right, the bracelet is a thing of beauty. The main reason I have not added one of these to my watch collection is all the excess printing on the dial. A showstopper for me unfortunately.
I personally love the fact that this brand is underrated. I would not want it to become another Rolex. There are so many Rolexes out it’s become boring.
i love GO, i owned three of them in the past and still have one the seventies chronograph just awesome horology, actually as far as secondary market they lose some value but no worse than omega, breitling and panerai which is good thing if you care about recovering some of your money.
You make some good points. GO is very underrated. They make beautiful watches and don’t get the attention they deserve. Watch collectors know the brand, but the general public does not. Not sure what the branding strategy is.
Love this video. The macro shots of the movement are incredible. Has anyone seen the Green, Blue and Silver dial versions in person? If so, which one would be the most legible for my old eyes?
I've had a GO. And, at least for me, the issue is resale. If you pay list you will lose a lot of money - 30 to 50%. I bought my GO for a good price so that when I did sell it, I was able to sell very close to my purchase price. I was recently looking at the SeaQ with a panorama date. I believe it lists for about $13k and the seller was asking $8500. A lot of watch for $8500... Not so much at full list. None of this is to say that GO watches aren't great. Just not a wise choice at list price.
Better to spend some money than to be locked into wearing a Date Just... What watch under 10k doesn't depreciate 30% just as fast? Some limited editions, some low production up-and-coming independents and the boring Rolexes.
Another great video Bruce showcasing a GREAT watch from the Land of Saxony - Glashautte Original (GO). I have 2 mint near vintage GO Sport Evolution GMTs. Like the GO Panaomatic Lunar, my Sport Evo GMTs also have the panaomatic date complication. What I especially like about the way GO creates the panaomatic date is that they actually place the number 0 for day/date 01-09. Now imagine owning /paying the money for an A, Lange & Sohne - Lange 1, where is displayed a BLANK disc for days 1-9. IMHO, the Lange 1 looks has an unbalanced looking dial for those days whereas the GO's dial it it is complete and balanced. Curious on your thoughts on this...?
Hey Bruce ,the finish work is out of this world for the price ,do they hold there value or do they take a bit of a hit like grand seiko that are also superbly finished
Totally agree... this watch has been on my radar for a long time but I always skip over it for something else and I think you nailed the price point issue. Also, I'm not sure if it's a dress watch or a sport watch so it's tough to place. If it was slightly more dressy or slightly more sporty, I could line it up with the competition better and see more value
If I had the budget for a second $10k watch I would absolutely get this one. It's a beautiful timepiece. Would love to see one in person though. My first 10k goes towards one of those big swiss companies. No fault of G.O.... just like you said... kinda is what it is...
Glashutte Original watches are fantastic!! I loved owning my Seamoss Green dialed SeaQ! It was fantastic, but just a tad too small of a case for my 8" wrist. They are somewhat under the radar, but real watch aficionados recognize how special the GO's are.
Well crafted watch for sure. My taste just hasn't reached a point to liking asymmetric dials. It's one thing having a date window that breaks the symmetry, it's another to have it as a design language. More power to you if you enjoy it though. ❤
Stunning watch. Much prefer their big date implementation vs Lange as well. They deserve so much more recognition. I really hate the rotor though, it's like an off brand Italian fashion house. It's just not in keeping with the rest of their aesthetic.
Interesting viewpoint. I myself decided for a JLC when met with the decision. I loved the Glashütte but have since I was young dreamt of my Reverso. Back then, Glashütte was still hidden behind the iron curtain and there was not much to dream about. But I have to say, watches out of this city, maybe except for Nomos, Tutima and Mühle do exceed my budget most of the times. Maybe those are brands you could shed some light on as well? What do you think of the Tutima Saxon One Chronograph?
I have considered the sea q in the past. The one thing I found most disappointing was the fact that it didn't have a display caseback to show off the beautiful movement.
This one has been on my radar for about 6 months. I have two other purchases first so it may be a year or two. My only question is, will it be the green, blue or white dial for me? Cartier Santos blue dial is my next watch purchase.
Glashutte Original might be the only "luxury" watch brand actually giving you any kind of value for your money. $10k seems cheap when you consider that every single piece of this movement was painstakingly polished by hand, down to the screws. It really puts into perspective just how incredibly overpriced mainstream Swiss brands like Rolex and Omega are.
100% - a fantastic watch and brand, but I've never quite pulled the trigger either. That said, if I had a more formal day-to-day, this would be my office watch of choice and I prefer it to the Lange (better dial layout). Blancpain would be the other obvious competitor, underrated too except for the FF.
I would argue that watch collectors in the know will gravitate towards this brand. They will understand that you’re getting German high horology without the ALS pricing. So I don’t think it’s a fault of the watch but rather that the average watch buyer will gravitate natural to the more hype or we’ll known brand names. I started off wanting a Rolex, but because I couldn’t buy one, so I started with seiko/stowa, then ended up doing GS, then omega and zenith, and now I’m adding VC to the collection. As for the next brands to get into, GO and Cartier are on the short list!
My view is slightly different.....Most watch collectors start with a 2 to 2.5k watch as their first 'luxury' watch and then proceed to watches that cost 5k, 7.5k etc....by the time they have or are drawn to spend 10k on a watch they are usually well into the hobby and know their watches and movements well....and anybody who knows this would prefer this watch to a rolex or Panerai......the difference between a new watch collector and an self educated enthusiast is being drawn to such watches rather than the more commercially available or manufactured pieces....I am myself moving up the path and would now any day choose a grand seiko or a GO (such as the one so beautifully presented by you) to a rolex or Brietling...or God forbid....A Hublot.
Absolutely Bruce! For a lot of folk including me, this is a chunk of change, but do-able. But it is a special piece of horology that an enthusiast can appreciate, enjoy, even cherish. When the alternative that most choose is something made by the million pouring off a production line, no contest. Although the one I'm saving for is the PanoReserve.
Glashütte Original is often derided as a poor man’s Lange but I think that GO offers far more value for the price even at retail and even more so in the secondary market. When you learn about how they build and test these watches, GO offers one of the best bang for the back relative to their position in the market
funny cliche, poor man does not know something called Lange let alone Glashutte Original let alone spending 5 figure on a watch is not a poor man thing
I wouldn't wear a Rolex for free. All my friends buy Rolexes and Omegas. You couldnt pay me to wear a Rolex . This is a true Artisans watch. Mossier & Cie are in this category too
In my opinion what prevents it to be more sellable and recognizable are the proportions. Its too big and too thick to be a good dress watch. Make it 38 and 10mm (like the Lange 1) and it will be a hit.
I looked seriously at GO, along with JLC and GS, before I bought my GS SLGH005. Why didn’t I buy a GO? They didn’t make a model that fit my desire for a sports watch with 100m WR, a technically up to date highly decorated movement with exposed caseback, and that was thin enough with not too much polishing that I’d possibly scratch. I was most excited by the GO SeaQ Panodate but I wasn’t looking for a dive watch and it was too big for my wrist. The Senator was great but too dressy and not as exciting to me as the SeaQ Panodate. So for me at least the GO watches are mostly too dressy unfortunately, although they’re stunning watches.
@@jamespalsson746 oh ok. Thanks for explaining. 😊 As for me, its just not my type of dial design. Even if it said A Lange i would still not buy it (if i had the money), simply because of the asymmetry triggering my OC 😅
You are hundred percent correct, most people who can afford this would rather get a Rolex or Omega. I think a lot of people also consider resale value.
agreed. the problem you think it is something to do with the design or look. Maybe, but just a bit. Design perspective: of course an elegant watch isnt as desirable nowdays as a junky flashy 42-44mm diver watch. you can flex with those. People rather spend a lot of money on designer jeans that is ripped apart and has holes, than a vitale barberis suit that has 400y old wool history from biella. (designer jeans is likely mass produced in asia). But you underestimate the flexing, show off effect of our society (sadly), stay that way, it is not normal. Real reason: Rolex/Omega has the branding and marketing. If an average kid has a basic entry level omega in a bar, chicks stick on him like glue even with a crapy old BMW (terrible cars btw). If he wears a double priced GO probably they think he bought it in a mall for 50 bucks. This is what matters: "what people think" They dont know the brand, and this what sadly matters in this weird, egoistic, narcissist society. I own omegas, i love them, but i would def. buy an OG as well..(just got to know the brand few months ago sadly).
Perhaps your lifestyle doesn’t fit with dress watches. I noticed that during Covid, when I was working from home, I was looking at sport style watches, but now that I’m back in a suit, I look more at formal/dress style watches.
Glashutte Original and Grand Seiko both make beautiful watches, but they both have the same problem -- their brand name. I'm sorry, but Glashutte Original is not a very original name. It's difficult to pronounce and it's mostly unknown from the public. As for Grand Seiko, their obvious association with watches that are much cheaper is not helping them.
It makes ma sad as well. There are way better watches than Rolex. I’d rather have a blancpain and the Glashutte Original dive. But I think most ppl want Mainstream stuff. It’s rare to find someone not mainstream
Meh. Not for me. I can relate to always buying sport models over the dressier models with higher finished movements though. Sport models are much more my style.
The truly iconic dress watches are all far more expensive than $10k, so this watch ends up competing more with iconic sports watches than other dress watches. For people wealthy enough to burn $10k and not care, they're buying far more expensive dress watches than this and using the $10k price point to buy Rolexes as everyday beaters. Then for people who aren't incredibly wealthy that have to save up for years just to buy that one amazing $10k watch as their grail watch it's _really_ hard to completely ignore resale value, no matter how much of a purist you might fancy yourself. The nail in the coffin is that this particular model is far too similar to a Lange 1. It's really bizarre for a watch to be an affordable alternative to an icon and still cost $10k. So it's not iconic, looks uncomfortably close to being a Lange 1 homage despite being expensive, and it's competing on price against more versatile watches with strong brands and resale value. It just has too much working against it to be a common pick at its price point. If GO would develop a bit more of their own design identity I think their brand could really take off because they clearly have the manufacturing ability to make some amazing watches, but they're just not there yet on the design front, especially with this model.
Agreed. This watch is for those that are more interested in craftsmanship than in publicly flexing. This has been on my shortlist for a while. It’s one of those, “if you know you know” watches for true enthusiasts.

Glashute SeaQ is a diver on my radar (sonar?). But this Panomatic is hot hot hot.
Hey Bruce ,the finish work is out of this world for the price ,do they hold there value or do they take a bit of a hit like grand seiko that are also superbly finished
They take a big hit selling second hand - works out well if you buy used to begin with or never sell 😊
Totally agree... this watch has been on my radar for a long time but I always skip over it for something else and I think you nailed the price point issue. Also, I'm not sure if it's a dress watch or a sport watch so it's tough to place. If it was slightly more dressy or slightly more sporty, I could line it up with the competition better and see more value
looks a little thick to be a dress watch to me
If I had the budget for a second $10k watch I would absolutely get this one.
If you are waiting for validation from others, you get what you deserve.
Just beautiful!!
this Glasutte is very nice. - how would the re-sale ( after @ 4 years ) compare to the other brands , ie Rolex. ? ~ JDS/CT
Well crafted watch for sure. My taste just hasn't reached a point to liking asymmetric dials. It's one thing having a date window that breaks the symmetry, it's another to have it as a design language. More power to you if you enjoy it though. ❤
Don't judge a book by its cover. Beautiful on the inside.
I have been lusting about this beautiful watch for a long time...
Stunning watch. Much prefer their big date implementation vs Lange as well. They deserve so much more recognition. I really hate the rotor though, it's like an off brand Italian fashion house. It's just not in keeping with the rest of their aesthetic.
Am a proud owner of the silver dial version. The finishing is why I purchased it.
I'm with you. They have a number of models that pull my heart strings. I'm sure it's just a matter of time. 😮 What?
That's a CLUNKY performance of Moonlight Sonata 3rd movement there 🤣
Would rather have this over a Rolex or Omega any day…..
Lovely watch, but I don't like how the seconds subdial interferes with the main dial.
Why my watch Glashutte Original No.113D has 18k stamp at the back? Can someone explain to me? Thank you.
I love this as I do many GOs. for me it is unfortunately too much money. One day maybe, it would be this in blue or the PanoMatic Inverse.
Maybe it’s time you finally go for it!
Love. At. First. Sight.
This is a brand for those who know and I hope it stays this way
When I wear my SeaQ, I feel good and I know nobody knows it real value.
It's not the watch that pains you. It's something else.
in Turquoise blue? ty
Still only a 2 year warranty ?
Oh yes, I have the gold PanoMaticReserve and boy is that a stonking watch….I got it as new old stock….
I wouldn't wear a Rolex for free. All my friends buy Rolexes and Omegas. You couldnt pay me to wear a Rolex . This is a true Artisans watch. Mossier & Cie are in this category too
Beautiful watch. So much better than an Omega but people will unfortunately go for a known brand so they can flex
3:48 They misspelled "Moonphase." There are two "Os" and no "D" in the word "Moon."
lol the world isn't just English. try learn German. mond = moon in a Germanic dialect.
German watches are definitely near the top of my list.
Thickness for me is a challenge
Incredible piece. I’d grab it on the strap though
Looks better in leather strap. I have the blue one
Everyone who reviews a GO knows why they're not getting adding one. ☁️🎉
Do tell please
@@ryangochuico It's not a "name" brand. Had it said A Lange & Söhne, it would've sold well
@@jamespalsson746 oh ok. Thanks for explaining. 😊
As for me, its just not my type of dial design. Even if it said A Lange i would still not buy it (if i had the money), simply because of the asymmetry triggering my OC 😅
Beethoven piano Sonata, the moonlight. 3rd movement.
🤯 It's all sub-dials, it makes my head hurt🤕
You are hundred percent correct, most people who can afford this would rather get a Rolex or Omega. I think a lot of people also consider resale value.
It all comes down to who you're trying to impress when you buy a high quality watch. Personally, I'll take this GO every time.
just as good as a lange?
10000 is a lot for this watch, say what you want, 4000 - 6000 range is perhaps the right range for this watch.
Be serious.
agreed. the problem you think it is something to do with the design or look.
This is what matters: "what people think"
They dont know the brand, and this what sadly matters in this weird, egoistic, narcissist society. I own omegas, i love them, but i would def. buy an OG as well..(just got to know the brand few months ago sadly).
Case shape is unrefined as well as crown.
Perhaps your lifestyle doesn’t fit with dress watches. I noticed that during Covid, when I was working from home, I was looking at sport style watches, but now that I’m back in a suit, I look more at formal/dress style watches.
Just a little too thick and wide for my wrist
Honestly I've owned a G.O pilot and thought it was very overrated. Quality wasn't there at all.
Not sure , why they changed the lovely bracelet and replaced it with a new design , also dial design got changed , not for better , sorry.
This is the first time the panomaticlunar came on a bracelet.
Finally I'm 1st to comment
now you can die in peace 🤣
