I have an album from this show and this song wasn't on it. It sounds a bit like 'The Heart is Slow to Learn,' at the beginning, so i'm assuming this song replaced it at some point. But i am curious as to whether this song made it to an album. Edit: I read the description, so it was on an album, and i'm assuming it's an older edition to the one i have...guess i'm going shopping, for a probably obscure CD. 😂😂😂
This specific demo recording was for promotional purposes only. I was shocked that it was not included since it was well-produced. Unfortunately,,there is no commercial recording of his song. The German cast sings it in German and is much closer to the actual show. Unfortunately Dracula is probably one of the concept recordings that doesn't have all the major numbers. It's more like a highlights album. After bombing on Broadway, Wildhorn re-worked the show in German and thus many additions were made. The prologue saying Nosferatu's name wasn't added until after Broadway. The major hit song Loving You Keeps Me Alive was paired with A Perfect life and then sung in counterpoint. The concept recording includes the hit new song but not as it's presented in the show (in counterpoint) but as 2 songs. On 2004 Broadway Way, A Perfect Life was paired with Modern World, which sounded like a typical Broadway song and less emotionally effective. The new way pairs Dracula's live for Mina while Mina reflects in her life. The original Broadway's pairing was just comparing contemporary life with her life. Loving You Keeps Me Alive was post Broadway only. No English recording of Roseanne exists. It was added post Broadway. You can hear it in German. As for his song, If I Could Fly, it was in the original Broadway production after a reprise of The Master's song. And The Heart is Slow to Learn was before the previous song. During the re-write, If I Could Fly made the cut but The Heart is Slow to learn was cut and directly replaced with Please Don't Make Me Love You. It's strange that the studio recording kept The Heart is Slow to Learn and Please Don't Make Me Love You. So the original Act II began like this; Undead One, Surrender The Heart is Slow to Lean Masters Song reprise If Could Fly. Post Broadway Beginning to middle of Act II Undead One, Surrender Please Don't Make Me Love You The Master's Song reprise Roseanne If I Could Fly Also not included on Broadway was the epic battle song "It's Over!" That song rocks and really is te highlight of Act II. Again, not on the concept recording. The 2010 concept recording has the main pop songs, but it's nut enough to tell the story. Of course, no needs to hear Undead One, Surrender but there really needs to be a second concept album like Wildhorn did with Jekyll&Hyde. In Fact J&H has 3 concept albums-- the original highlights with Colm Wilkinson (mainly pop songs with songs that didn't make cut), 1994 Complete Gothic Thriller (it's almost s cast album, but is a concept album as this was the order he wanted the songs, ideally. Some call it the Theatre Under Tge Stars cast album. However, still more cuts when you listen to the OBC), Jekyll&Hyde: A Resurrection (rocked up version), and The 2012 Concept recording where they re-orchestrated it -- some works, some don't).
@@DerekMckean thanks for getting back to me, i like all the history of the show you provided to. I'll have to check out the German version then which isn't an issue as Tanz der Vampire is one of my favourite musicals too. Sucks that with all the different concept releases we never got a full album. Seems like there's allot of Frank's songs that are effectively lost. Like i kmow Wonderland didn't do too well either but the UK version of the show had a song called 'This is Who I Am' and it is gorgeous, however i only came across the show a couple years ago, never got to see it live so the only way i can hear that song is through an audience recording where i can't even pick out all the words. Even though the show didn't do too well it seems a shame for the songs to have not been recorded.
So beautiful
