    5 bladed prop Mike. It needs an extra blade to absorb that power without increasing diameter.

    • @alexdarcydestsimon3767
      @alexdarcydestsimon3767 Год назад

      I would rather say : it needs five of shorter blades to transfer the same power as four longer blades.

    I think the winglet helps with eddy turbulence at the wing edge and does help improve lift. At least in faster aircraft.

    • @boostaholic9174
      @boostaholic9174 Год назад

      I believe I remember hearing the same thing, but the ironic thing is the same lift can be created just by increasing the wing another 3% so maybe it is just aesthetics🤷‍♂️

    • @bunglerat
      @bunglerat Год назад +2

      Differential pressures between the upper and lower wing surfaces meet at the tips, causing wingtip vortices, in turn increasing turbulence and drag. Winglets are designed to offset these effects to improve efficiency. However, they also increase weight and typically require strengthening of wing structures to accommodate them - which is why they are not always beneficial enough to justify their installation (depending on the aircraft type and performance operating envelope).

  • @Pilot-Ali
    @Pilot-Ali Год назад +7

    Those winglets reduces the drag of pressure differential below and over the wing, increases efficiency of aircraft.

  • @derickellisster
    @derickellisster Год назад +8

    I don't know who told you that the winglet doesn't serve a purpose😂 It does. It reduces wing tip vortices and reduces fuel burn. Not sure of the percentages on this model, but a short sesrch should give you nore information. Daher does nothing by accident.
    The 930 introduced the G3000.
    Have a great day.

      I wrote “eddy turbulence” in my comment but tip vortices was better phrasing. Thank you!

    • @yohanauguuste
      @yohanauguuste Год назад +2

      I mean in general. On this airplane probably not. I worked with a company in a similar single engine turboprop where we were also trying winglets for looks but they made performance much worse so they were cancelled. (Our wing was larger than tbm so they probably don’t have a big performance hit like we did). Marketing is powerful. If they want winglets they get winglets. Not by accident lol but doesn’t serve a purpose aerodynamically. That airplane would need to be up really high and for winglets to serve a purpose. 31K at 300+ knots, this plane probably isn’t seeing any benefits from winglets.

    Former aircraft broker and current 121 guy here. Always thought it was disingenuous marketing to call these faster turboprops jet-like. Fact of the matter is just because it may be barely beat one or two bottom-barrel jets out there, they're a whole different animal. Personally I think I rather spend nearly 1 million less, get a used later model Citation 550 or an early CJ1/2/3 and use the difference towards fuel and maintenance.

    • @grafhilgenhurst9717
      @grafhilgenhurst9717 Год назад +2

      Just out of curiosity, how far will that $1,000,000 go towards fuel and annuals. I gather flying a Citation gets pretty pricey. How about a Cirrus jet?

    • @aerialbugsmasher
      @aerialbugsmasher Год назад

      @@grafhilgenhurst9717 well it's been nearly a decade since I've done this and the vision didn't even exist jet. But for a citation bravo nowadays the running costs would probably be about $2k an hour. If you fly it for about 300 hours or so a year. Hourly rate would go up if you fly less because the fixed costs like insurance and hangars get divided between less flights. The cirrus is probably 1200 an hour or so that's just a W.A.G.

      Cmon you know damn well the same principal applies and you could just get a used TBM and also save gobs of money down the road in fuel and maintenance. A million dollars will go away pretty quick maintaining 2 older jet engines...
      But I do agree when you look at it from a performance aspect. If you need it for your mission then you need it.

    • @aerialbugsmasher
      @aerialbugsmasher Год назад

      @@CrossWindsPat obviously but I'm working off the absurd assertion that it's "jet-like" so if I really want jet performance then may as well get an actual jet. Sure some of the cheaper ones won't be a whole lot faster but most will have you cruising at 45000 ft well above most weather. And as long as you can find one freshly overhauled then you won't have to worry about engine maintenance for years and there's always flat rate maintenance plans for everything else.
