Proprietary trading (also referred to as "prop trading") happens traders trade with the company's own money as opposed to depositors' money, so as to make a profit for itself. Proprietary trading firms business is finding good traders and funding them so that they trade and make money for the firm. A proprietary trading firm will usually put limits or caps on its traders so as to limit the risk. They will interview traders and do their own due diligence but will also cap the risk with some restrictions and limitations on account size. If you start making money for a prop firm they will start giving you more leeway. They are providing the risk capital, the traders are providing the skill. The profit would then split between the firm and the traders.

I learned to trade in crypto and I ended up losing money, but switching to traditional markets it feels like the price action is in slow motion compared to crypto, I’m up 320ish % in 6 months wondering if prop firms are a scam though otherwise I may look into it further
