    Glad this one came up in my feed Martin, nice video of an amazing area. The first time I was there a few years ago I did pretty much the same route. I have returned many times to Kilclooney and must say I'm still not certain of that last bit of a scramble to bring you above the head of the lake, always seems to work out though.

    Nice add for the place, probably my favorite. The rock is a hard conglomerate, which is great for grip but I'd imagine rough on the knees if you slipped on it. It's surely one of Ireland's perfect loop walks around a Corrie (glacial) lake. I think that peregrine falcons nest in the sheer cliff face at the back of the lake. Yep, going clockwise, there are a few places toward the upper quarter of the hike that one needs to be very careful that one is following the correct path and concentrating because if you stray, the drop is fairly sheer both sides.

    Great video.This is challenging hillwalk. Scrambling in places and on an unmarked trail.I had planned to walk it for years as I live locally.When we walked it parking, even in off season is a problem.Walking boots, waterproofs and snacks are a requirement and always let someone know where your going and what time to expect you back. .We were surprised at seeing young children dogs and everybody bar one man waring clothing that wasn't suitable for the environment.Its amazing place and this film highlights it's beauty.Well done 👍

    Great capture - I hiked Coumshingaun for the first time last Summer and hiking it with a backpack with my camping gear was probably not a good idea for me! Definitely a humbling experience and I felt very vulnerable at times. 100% understand what you mean.. not a good place for a heavy pack especially if you have the wind with that. Your plan is exactly what I would be thinking of doing. Have done this a few times. I was with a group yesterday and one of us got knocked over by a gust of wind at the start of the trek down the scales. So we went all the way over to Mahon Falls and descended there instead. A friend gave a lift back to Kilclooney. It's a great hike but the weather is so unpredictable. We headed off early to avoid the wind and rain forecast for the afternoon. We ended up getting all of it, thick cloud and a lot of excitement.

    • @soletrail
      @soletrail  Год назад

      Sounds like quite an adventure! Dealing with unpredictable weather in the great outdoors can definitely add a lot of excitement to a hike. It was a smart move to start early and adjust your route to stay safe. The unpredictability is part of what makes these treks memorable, and it's great that you made the most of it. Happy hiking!

    I did the loop with a group and I didn't fully appreciate the level of difficulty. No account really gives the full effect involved. It's not hiking. It's hiking, scrambling, climbing, scraping, coasting, sliding and slipping. How none of us was injured I do not know. I'm glad I did it but I'm also glad to say I will never, ever do that loop again. The next time I'll climb via Mahon Falls. trek over to Cumfea and around to Crotty's Rock, over to look into Cumshingaun before heading to Fauscum and back along the Mahon Falls ridge to the tourist car park. If you have any more footage of the last steep climb up to the top of the Cumshingaun loop I'd appreciate if you could post it. I remember seeing that from afar on the climb up, with people clambouring up what looked like the vertical corner and I thought there was NOOOOOOO way I was going to do that. But the alternative zig zag route was some help but not, as you said, for the faint hearted. I would love to see footage of that. My own go pro view is of my hands scrabling and griping, and the back of the heels of the "hiker" in front of me. Good video.
