  • Ok, this is a woodturners challenge
    It’s a challenge my Grandad would set and is much trickier than you may think give it a go and post a comment. No cheating, no gauges or templates and must be done in one piece. #woodturning

    This is the proof of a true master. Currently there are plenty of RUclips videos of so called expert woodturners who couldn't even come close to what you produced by eye. Sadly they're interested in telling viewers to purchase a certain chisel or lathe which would make them into woodturners; not! Your humble presentation coupled with your flawless skill are truly inspirational for the serious student.
    THANK YOU for taking the time to make these videos. I love them! 😎

    Hats off to you mate! I am as detailed as it gets with design/art background and 32 years in the shop/studio but not on the lathe. I'm just starting off and am in awe. That hand/eye perspective is artistry and a skill seldom seen. Cheers for sharing!

    I had commented before on your skew chisel demonstration. I was amazed how you make that tool look like it's an extension of your hands. Thanks to you, I am so much more confident with the skew. I have a long way to go as I'm still struggling to do an even, 'sweeping' cut with the tool, but I'll definitely be practicing this! Thanks again, your videos are great!!!

    Are there other challenges your grandfather or father recommended?

    What? Everybody is so in awe of your skill. Well, I am too! Amazing eye. When I saw the challenge I never Imagined you would turn both at the same time, from the same piece of wood and achieve such an amazing result. Truly (like everybody else has said) you are a true master. I may try this "later" but I can't hope to match your amazing skill. THANK YOU!

    Dang! I would have to put in at least 5 years with the skew to even think about attempting this.... If I had turned as many spindles as I had bowls, well, I might be able to do it...

    We used similar exercises teaching engineering apprentices. (In metal and using drawings). If the male fitted the female, before they jumped up and down in excitement, the two parts also had to fit those of another apprentice!

    • @woodturner21
      @woodturner21  Год назад

      That sounds tricky

    • @gbwildlifeuk8269
      @gbwildlifeuk8269 Год назад +2

      @@woodturner21 not really! If you turn a hundred components, similar to you turning spindles say, they all have to fit from no 1 to 100. The exercise of pairing them with those produced by a different apprentice was to assess of they could meet the tolerance on the drawing. Thereby allowing different staff to turn the same component increasing production. (These were engineering lathes, which in comparison were more precise and easier to control in minute degrees than by eye on a wood lathe.)
