Der Elkronig is already one of the most difficult solo pieces to play on Violin/Cello. To be able to play it well while singing the opera is astronomically more difficult than playing chords and singing simple melodies on a piano/guitar
@Jovem Escritor Nah, it's not the same thing. I get that you're trying to be encouraging and positive and I also believe few things are impossible, but doing what this musician achieved, is very different from singing and accompanying yourself on piano or guitar.

I can’t talk about guitar given my lack of knowledge of how to play it, but singing while playing any piece, let alone such an incredibly difficult piece (for both voice AND cello) is an incredible feat. The performer has to be thinking of 4 different things at the same time: his right hand, left hand (which is crazy in this piece), the text of the piece, and the VERY DIFFICULT vocal range.
When a difficult piece isn't difficult enough... When I saw that he sang I thought "ah yes, so the cello part is more easy because it's only the accompaniment" then "wait, no, singing while doing THAT??"
I thought it was a very human performance. Music has a human mind and various techniques to express it, and I think that they are expressed in direct connection with the human soul.

i went to a campe where this guy was the cello instructor. i swear he introduced himself as the guy who didn't like cheese, and then when everyone at camp started showing eachother this video he become a freaking legend. even to the kids like me who went there for art (im a pianist but they didnt have a piano program). i totally have his autograph now

Trying to play an arrangement of a piece that is notorious for its technical difficulty on the piano on the cello is already impressive by itself, but to do it in a way that musically suits the lyrics is a feat on another level. Then to sing in addition to this which requires such a high level of coordination and control to keep in balance with the cello makes this an unbelievable performance.

Nice voice. Yes, he can play the cello, but it does not serve the music. The percussion of the piano is missing and the cello just makes it noisy.
