I purchased the Nighthawk RS700S and hands down a fantastic Router, The Range and Speeds are amazing but, There is no Mesh firmware available for the RS700S it is only a standalone Router and I plan on expanding, So I returned The RS700S and picked up the Asus Be98 pro which is also a great router especially since the firmware update, The Wifi speeds are very similar but Wifi range on the RS700S is unmatched, But honestly both are great.

Hi, got a 2 floor house. A large household family consisting 7ppl, plenty of devices connected. (80+). I am struggling to decide which Asus router should I get? Should I get the quad and or tri and router ?I prefer Asus as that what I am using, but i am on old wifi 5 technology. Issue I am facing right now is we r heavily reliance on wifi for 80+ decide and wireless dead spot zone.
Your channel is awesome for newbie to technology like me

I'm about to move to a bigger place and was wondering about the equivalence of the 5ghz band across different brands of routers. I.e. At different set distances, what would be the speed drop off between the Asus and the TPLink. Does 8 vs 12 antennae make a difference in that case...Thank you for the informative video!

Thanks, it will depend on many factors, and I guess that subject requires its own video! Thanks for the suggestion. 🙂

Is pfsense or OPNsense needed with the current WIFI 6 routers?

I’ve got ax86u pro overall it’s a good router but I struggle with coverage in my last room in the apartment. U think be550 would make a difference? I don’t know if my internet provider is crappy or this router can’t manage my 1gbit internet fiber

The Asus BE98 Pro is just too expensive for me to justify. NetGear are so hit and miss, having had to return two Nighthawk routers to BestBuy because of a known firmware issue that bricked the routers after a successful update. NetGear support offered to RMA them for one with a slightly newer revision of the hardware to solve the issue but they should have recalled the original hardware version instead of wasting customers time.
Personally, I prefer external antennas because they can be pointed, at least somewhat, in the direction needed. Asus has a great GUI and even better extended life support through community based firmware, like Merlin.

Could you test the performance of different wifi technologies across different types of wall materials...i would guess wifi 6 and 7 would be less useful for people having concrete walls

I don't understand why gamers would need such fast routers... The only thing that matters in online games is latency, not speed. And even the cheapest wifi 7 routers will have imperceptible latency. Even if you stream your games from an online server or to your Portal (PS5 Pro will have wifi 7, so that will help), the slowest wifi 7 router would be enough for 10 of those simultaneous streams.
I think people who need this speed and latency the most is people working from home dealing with huge files over the network. Like video production or game development.

Who tried Asus firmware update and after that the device ruined ?

I surely could not take advantage of WiFi 7 at all.
For me WiFi 7 is not even for cosumers anymore, it is for prosumers and corporates.
Do not get me wrong, I sure believe that faster is better but let's get real... who the heck needs 9 Gbps total connection or imagine any device that will use almost saturate 6 Gbps connection at a time.
If I remember the most bandwidth intensive is video streaming. Even if you stream 4K video, it uses 50 Mbps.
At 6 Gbps, it means you need to transfer 750 MB/s at a time... you need full NVMe NAS to saturate the bandwidth
I really wonder what else has WiFi 7 offers besides more bandwidth?
I mean... it sure offers better latency, just how much better latency?

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  5 месяцев назад +4

Ok, so basically, Wi-Fi is a shared medium, meaning that the 6 Gbps you mentioned is shared between all connected devices. Therefore, we should not assume that each device is capable of using 6 Gbps. Instead, if you have, let's say, 50 devices on your network, each one can use up to 6 Gbps / 50, which is roughly 120 Mbps. So, long story short, that extra bandwidth means more Wi-Fi capacity, allowing more devices to use the network simultaneously. With the growing number of smart home devices, this can be very helpful. Thanks.

people need to realize that wifi 6 isnt that much worse than wifi 7. a wifi 5 router could be just as fast if not faster it just depends on the hardware
