I loved Grandpa.. Will Geer was awesome and so was Ellen Corby as grandma. I was a young kid when the show began. I thought it was real. There was a couple of things I thought was realistic... On the bedrooms doors, they were dirty. Because they were kids who played outside in the dirt. But one thing kinda scary was those kids and grandpa would stand in the back of that pickup truck. Sometimes they would sit on the edges of that truck. After Will Geer passed away, the show wasn't the same. And then Ellen Corby was away, then they lost Richard Thomas. And Olivia, John, and the show faltered. My favorite now was Jason. Great talent.
Grandpa was my favorite ❤. He was light and funny for his entire run of the show. I was really sad when he passed away. I was kinda upset when Michael Learned didn't want to do it anymore, but I understood it's her life, her decision, but then we lost Ralph too. It was just so much. Grandpa died (nothing could be done), John-boy left, Olivia & John left, Grandma left (medical issues, nothing could be done.) They did the best they could with what was left of the cast. Which meant that they grew up faster then they would have in years.
My mother loved the show so much that her opinion of every other show was based on whether it was as good as or not as the Waltons. Of course, in her eyes, no show was ever better. She was born in 1930 and could relate to many of the story lines. When she got older and I was taking care of her I eventually bought her all the episodes on DVD. She and 2 of her sisters also took a road trip to Virginia to visit the museum and loved it all. My mother passed away in 2016.
Our children grew up with the Waltons. My husband had Parkinson’s and slowly could not do activities. Every evening we enjoyed watching The Walton’s. The show brought joy and a wholesome story in to our life. If only television took pride in producing a story for the children of today. Truly a beautiful family show! Thank you everyone.
I agree that it's a great show, but it's probably better for adults, frankly. When I was a kid, I put up with The Waltons just to get to Hawaii 5-0! But now that I'm older, I appreciate The Waltons much more. ESPECIALLY the writing...key members of the cast kept leaving, and yet the show remained very enjoyable....most tv series cannot really withstand losing ONE key character...The Waltons lost John Boy and Grandpa...and Grandma, for the most part, since she could no longer speak normally...John and Olivia were in and out the last few seasons....yet the show was still outstanding, for the most part. The writers adapted quite well to the changing landscape of the available cast.
I didn’t see grandma being spoke of. I feed off this show. To this day I often refer back to certain episodes and use the lesson given to today’s life.
I still watch reruns of The Waltons and Little House everyday. Its much better than talk shows, soap operas, or game shows that are on at that time. Love these shows.
I like Jim Bob the best , he is a dreamer, innovative and loveable and showed his vulnerable side often, not afraid to fall in love. I continue to watch The Waltons everyday.
My wife and I watch this throughout the week. Show was awesome. You can tell they all got along. But our favorites were Grandma and Grandpa! You can tell they truly loved each other. Now, I know rumors about them but they will always be our favorites. Good night Grandma, Good night Grandpa!!!

The Walton's was a favorite of mine. I watched it in the early 80s as a child with my mom in Massachusetts. We moved to TX in 1983 where I started high school. Was sad I could not find the repeated shows. Hear it is 37 years later with me now in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma feeling very blessed to have June 1, 2020 be first day of airing the Waltons again on ME TV. It brings back memories. Lorraine Rizzo Now we have all these experts sayin only bad comes from a family who struggle. You’re supposed to be a drug addict or alcoholic. I grew up in a family of 8 kids widowed mother at 36yo an a bed ridden grandmother an ours was one of the few families in the area who had no convicted criminals in it. So much for experts hey
I never cared about this show when I was a kid in the 70's. But now...my heart longs all the time to be part of this "family." To have grown up in a family like this...to have family that cares so much for and about you. I know this is a fake family but I also know the Hamner family were similar. I wish I had been born in either family.
You know that family was never really like that. In the first Christmas special before the series, the great Patricia Neal played Olivia Walton. She played her much harsher than Michael Learner. The house in the first Christmas Special was depicted as much smaller and less fancy. I think the first Christmas Special that spawned to series was probably closer to the truth.
As a youngster, I used to wonder what it would have been to grow up in a big 2 story home with all those brothers and sisters. Such simple times, windows opened, mom and grandma in the kitchen, rocking on the porch....that cool mountain air...such a simple time and looking back, when this show began, it was a simple time for me growing up in South Carolina...I was born in 59, graduated HS in 77....Life as I knew it was good, but to have lived on Waltons Mtn and experienced that would have been awesome.
Thanks for sharing. My whole Family in Selangor, Malaysia 🇲🇾 enjoyed watching Walton's every week and the stories it's almost similar like our maternal grandparents home in Sungei Buloh. Where our siblings enjoyed fishing, swimming, climbing fruit trees, digging for worms, enjoyed birds chirping, the greenery farms, walking or cycling, picking eggs to earned extra pocket money, climbing on grandpa's tractors, playing sand etc. These has all gone and the environment has changed tremendously. Children no longer enjoyed catching crickets, playing mantis or fishing but all networking with their mobiles at a young age of 3!!
Absolutely. My wife and I watched every episode that we recorded over the last year or so. Such a nice change from all the violence, vulgar language, sex etc etc. A great feel good series.
Grandpa Walton. He reminded me so much of my grandpa. That’s why I wouldn’t watch the show today I still cry cause this by Grandpa but I get to see him on TV
I loved this show ! Thursday nights , laying on the livingroom floor . The entire family was gathered ! My Daddy playfully called the show ' The Good Apples ' , lol !
I loved The Waltons so much as a child...so inoccent and true family values. Thank you for sharing!!🙏 Absolutely adored Michael Landon...so sadly missed😔
@@WPPCProductions No, I did mean Michael Landon...there was a small picture at the end of the video in the left hand corner of your screen..it was showing Little House On The Prairie!😊
Loved this show. I remember coming in from playing outside with friends, almost dark and the Walton's theme playing on the TV. As a kid I loved this show. Wonderful times!
I totally loved this series and was glued to it each week. I wish the world were more like this again. Nostalgia, in deed! Oh and I think my favorite character was Erin because I thought she was so pretty! But I liked them all really.
Jim Bob was my favourite character on the Waltons. I don’t think I ever missed an episode and the sight of the sunshine filtering through the trees inspired me to move to Australia from Scotland where you’d rarely see the sun never mind under a tree. However I’m now back in Scotland as the call of family and roots run true, just like the Waltons. One of my three favourite programs ever.
My mamas favorite TV show. We used to watch it back in the day and recently on DVD. My mama RIP watch The Waltons everyday in her last days of her life.
This was one of my fav shows of all time. The cast were perfectly cast. They were so much better times than the 2020's.Little house on the prairie was another fav.
There's a street that I take to come home, it's called Walton Ave. It's has a bit of a incline to drain my power chair. Whenever I'm on it, I say I'm on Walton's Mountain 🗻 & some times I have even hummed the theme music too!!
I loved the Walton’s.would rush home from school to see this.It reminded me of my beautiful family Mum Dad And nine siblings. I’m Lucky to have a massive family
There was something to love about all of the characters. The Baldwin sisters were also a lovely addition to the family as were Ike and CoraBeth. Plus you had some really good friends that came in and out of the episodes as well before the kids grew up and got married. Yancy, Ep and Verdi are just a few. I always enjoyed the Waltons and it's fun to see who was on the show in "guest" appearances that went on to become stars on TV or in the movies. If I had the chance to meet grandpa, I would have loved that as I loved him as a character and I'm pretty sure I would have loved Will Greer as well. I loved John and John-boy as well. If I had to live thru the depression, I think being a part of this family would have made it easier to survive. I didn't care for Little House on the Prairie at the time, but I've grown to appreciate it it for what it was, I still love the Waltons more and also like Dr Quinn more for that time period. It's just my opinion.
I think we cannot even begin to imagine the Great Depression. My grandfather said as a kid there were many nights he went hungry. Parents had to give away their kids. It scarred some people for life.
I love Elizabeth because I identified with her so much as I was growing up and watching these; but I also love Grandma and Grandpa because they reminded me of my own from my mother's side of the family.
Actress Ellen Corby. She had a stroke during the run of the Waltons. She recovered enough to come back to the show, but her role was diminished from what it had been.
It was a big deal, back then, incorporating her stroke into the show's story line. .it was something that people didn't talk about. They did a great job..
Forgot how GREAT this show was... truly an hour to look forward to every week and sadness when it was off season... felt like sacrilege when I tried to prove I was all grown up (as a teenager) and mocked “The Walnuts” with “Goodnight Chance... Mooo” to be cool😔
i really loved this show, I think, it is one of its kind! I loved the values, love, and kindness, every person brought to the show. Really good value lessons!
When I (*1965) was young, I loved Jean-Boy.... 15 years ago I discovered the Waltons on DVD and our whole family watched all episodes... Greetings from Austria!
I think I have seen every episode at least 30x ! We definitely need more wholesome family shows. Absolutely refuse to watch reality TV. Subscribe d .Cheers
Loved the show and still do. Just finished watching the whole series from beginning to end last year on the Inspirational channel. Wishing it was the early '70s again.
Remember when grandpa Walton would do something foolish, and grandma Walton would say "you old fool"? The Waltons was a great show from a much simpler time!
Hey! You left out Ellen Corby Grandma Walton. She played in a lot of Westerns back in the day and plus she was guest on 'Gomer Pyle' and many other shows before the Waltons cam along. 😊
Obviously Ms Corby was a prolific actress. She played in a lot of different programs. Besides 'The Waltons' I lenjoyed seeing her in the western series 'Trackdown'. 😊
It was quite difficult for them. They lived during the depression, suffered poverty and limited medical availability. Simple can exist anytime, anywhere but it doesn't require poverty or near poverty.
It's fiction, life is not. Life was never like it was portrayed on the show, life was difficult, nearly impossible for poor mountain folk especially during the portrayed years of 1936 to 1945. This called entertainment.
Life simple?! Spoken by someone who never experienced the complications, injustices, and pain of that time or any other but their own. The Waltons was all about dealing with life's obstacles in that or ANY time.
I have all of the Walton movies. I actually watched 4 episodes last night, and my husband and my self watched watched 3 episodes last week. I love the show. I'm so glad that my husband was able to buy the whole collection. Though I love all of them, I think that grandpa is my favorite. He is a hoot.

God I remember this show like it was yesterday. Every Sunday with a roast dinner lol loved it
I loved the Walton’s.would rush home from school to see this.It reminded me of my beautiful family Mum Dad And nine siblings.
I feel the exact same as you, I wish I could have had a Grandfather like Will Geer. And a family life like the Waltons.
I also like little house on the prairie, both families had good family values
The recipe their fathers moonshine
I think we cannot even begin to imagine the Great Depression. My grandfather said as a kid there were many nights he went hungry. Parents had to give away their kids. It scarred some people for life.
@@donnaleeclubb119 I'm sure you're right.
Great stuff you guys, this brought back loads of memories for me .I watched The Waltons as a child and this made it seem like yesterday.
☺️
Love the Waltons, even bought the DVD so I could show my kids! Love to see the series of National Velvet
I love Elizabeth because I identified with her so much as I was growing up and watching these; but I also love Grandma and Grandpa because they reminded me of my own from my mother's side of the family.
I understood watching TV in the 70's and enjoyed my childhood to the fullest !! 💖
What about the woman who played the grandmother, Esther? No mention of her in this video.
Actress Ellen Corby. She had a stroke during the run of the Waltons. She recovered enough to come back to the show, but her role was diminished from what it had been.
Yes, they should have mentioned her.
It was a big deal, back then, incorporating her stroke into the show's story line.
.it was something that people didn't talk about. They did a great job..
True why isn't grandma Walton in there.
Why isn't grandma Walton mentioned or the Baldwin sisters?
I loved this show growing up... we need these shows back.
I loved the Walton's, they left me feeling good, great memories with that show from when I was a youngster 👍
I loved watching this show as my father was Elizabeth’s age in this era. I felt like I was a part of his childhood
Forgot how GREAT this show was... truly an hour to look forward to every week and sadness when it was off season... felt like sacrilege when I tried to prove I was all grown up (as a teenager) and mocked “The Walnuts” with “Goodnight Chance... Mooo” to be cool😔
My family would be around the table having dinner.I just can’t express how lovely my life was just like the Walton’s.
i really loved this show, I think, it is one of its kind! I loved the values, love, and kindness, every person brought to the show. Really good value lessons!
When I (*1965) was young, I loved Jean-Boy....
15 years ago I discovered the Waltons on DVD and our whole family watched all episodes... Greetings from Austria!
Ike was the character and his wife I liked . Also the 2 old sisters
.gee from Scotland
The Baldwin sisters are my favorite! Love how they were always referencing their fathers "recipe" made all my that money from moonshine! Lol
@@deanlangworthy3311 Yes! They were wonderful. Every time I watch an episode with them in it, I find myself smiling. They certainly were heartwarming.
I really enjoyed this run down memory lane (or mountain ) as you put it .
However I was surprised that the talented grandmother was not mentioned .
Loved them and they will forever be loved for decades to come! Loved growing up with them all.
A massive part of my childhood loved them all!
Remember when grandpa Walton would do something foolish, and grandma Walton would say "you old fool"? The Waltons was a great show from a much simpler time!
I just seen the grandma yesterday on
The munsters she was very young
She played the mother to the tall man the Butler
Grandma was a mean old nag
@@judithryle2113 Yes, she sure was "salty".
Hey! You left out Ellen Corby Grandma Walton. She played in a lot of Westerns back in the day and plus she was guest on 'Gomer Pyle' and many other shows before the Waltons cam along. 😊
Sarah, We hope to cover Grandma in a follow-up video! We love the classics. Thank you
@@DYR COOL. Thanks.😊🎈
She was in the classic western "Shane"
She also appeared in the run on the bank in " It's A Wonderful Life."
Obviously Ms Corby was a prolific actress. She played in a lot of different programs. Besides 'The Waltons' I lenjoyed seeing her in the western series 'Trackdown'. 😊
Thanks for this lovely story of the Waltons. There were information I didn't know but now know. 😇
Love John Boy... even to this day. Great actor.
One never tires watching these shows.... The 100th times is as good as the first !👍💗
and no need for nudity, aggression richness...etc. etc
@Randy Hilgeman for sure...your comment took all this time....not mean enough, eh 💔
The Walton's - my favorite TV show ever.
💕
I only wish life today was as simple as those from The Waltons.
I have before have wished the same thing thaks
It was quite difficult for them. They lived during the depression, suffered poverty and limited medical availability. Simple can exist anytime, anywhere but it doesn't require poverty or near poverty.
Life wasn't really simple, they had to survive the depression in the 1930s.
