As an aspiring random ukelele guy who has yet to post any arrangements in fear of copyright, how does copyright law work surrounding covers of songs like these? I see your selling your tabs for this song, which I do plan to buy eventually, but I'm also very curious on the rules surrounding monetization.
All of my published videos have received copyright claims (not copyright strikes), which is expected since they are cover songs, not the ones I originally produced. You have to be very careful not to receive a copyright strike, as they can lead to your channel being suspended. Because of this, I make slight edits to the songs I use, such as removing the guitar and adjusting the vocal volume. However, these edits are still a long way from being considered Fair Use. Unfortunately, it is a fact that even with just a copyright claim, you lose the rights to monetize your content. Basically, you shouldn’t expect to earn from covering other people’s songs. Upon realizing this, I decided to start selling tabs and will use this channel to promote them. I also plan to release original ukulele songs and arrangements in the future. Looking forward to your uke covers🥰
