Microchip 24CL64E and 24CL64 are they same?

This chip gave me hell... and now I don't why it's not reading properly... is that related to the ship being different?
tried vvdi eeprom reading it doesn't show the chip set up as the original from vehicle with additional letter at the end which couldn't be found by scrolling chips thru.
any ideas?
