Ankalaev couldn't fight considering he was booked for a fight. The UFC is about making stories and moments so it's not always the number one contender getting the title fight next. Yet, Ankalaev is fighting for the belt now anyways, so... For example, why would they have booked Royval v Pantoja when he just lost to him. Then you see all the contenders in the division getting taken out and end up watching rank 10 Erceg fight for a belt followed by an unranked guy from outside the UFC to come in and fight for it. It doesn't always line up to have the number one contender fight for the title. I've got more examples if you want them. Step 3) The UFC constantly has a pool of prospect fighters. It's not easy to always find the next Jon Jones or dominant guy. They have DWCS, they have TUF, they have Dana's 'lookin' for a fight'. They have tons of feeder leagues and invitationals around the world. They are constantly recruiting and adding talent. They find guys, they give them a shot, sometimes they lose. You don't get a Chimaev or a Bo Nickal every day. It takes time and development. As for champs asking for double champ opportunities, guys like Volk, Islam, Izzy, Pereira and Jon Jones all deserved it and blew through their division multiple times. Double champ keeps things interesting and is big for the sport. What kind of fan doesn't want to see a p4p top tier champion move up and take on the next level of talent? They do it in boxing too it's not some new thing that just came around. Step 4) 100% agree with the poor judging but they are making some changes. They added new judges like former fighter Chris Leben. They removed a judge directly after the Tuivasa fight for doing such a piss poor job. Progress is being made but I agree 100% more needs to be done and I'm hoping gambling isn't going to impede this much more. Step5) Also agree, Media has been shit, questions have been shit, allowing the same dry, dull guys to continue asking the same questions every single event is a mood killer. I think ESPN has some blame there. Rivalries need to return to the UFC. They created some of the best moments. Step 6) Jon Jones does NOT need more activity. Jon Jones is a legend and all time greatest. Activity is for new guys making their name. This is a dangerous life changing sport. Jon is here for massive PPV sales, not for some new guy to make a name off him. Legends don't need to fight 4 times per year and they absolutely 100% SHOULD NOT. As for holding the belt up in a division, I think there should be a time frame set, if the fight isn't made, strip the belt and make the next fight.
