Well done. For those wondering, Crye’s official color palette for Multicam Arid are Olive green, Highland brown, light tan, urban tan, and light coyote
I did a woodland marpat paintjob with stencils and aervoe spray cans. I fully cured each color in the oven before doing the next round of stencils. Finished it with brownells alumihyde matt clear.
"What makes multi-cam multi-cam?" What a nerd! Just kidding, that was actually the comment that helped me focus on and break down Vietnam Tiger Stripe, really appreciate you detailing your process, super helpful. Also, for nerding out on the exact color palette and balance of the different colors in the palette, I've started grabbing a piece of scrap lumber then cutting some rough stencils from tape. I will usually do 4 or 5 options on the board, so I know I am set before any paint hits the gun or I use any of the stencils I paid for. Thanks bro!
An outstanding camo job! I just mask off the important bits, hang the gun from a tree, use the trees leaves and branches for a stencil, then spray with tan, brown, and green Krylon. Not surprisingly it comes out looking remarkably like the area around it.
Honestly this is one of the best painting tutorials I've seen yet and definitely has me rethinking some things. Great job, I feel like the camo rustoleum's would have done incredible on this
Sweet! Of course, everyone has their own ideas and fav themes. I've used all kinds of things to paint in "camo". I actually used an old laptop cooler with grooves in it to paint diagonal lines in different colors. Haven't tried the stencils yet, but it looks fun. Great video. Hope you plan on doing more of these with a wide variety of schemes. Freedom stencil’s videos on this topic are similar, but with less detail.
Did my first paint job on my first AR in Digi camo. I cut out all the stencils by hand.... I don't suggest that. It took forever. But it came out great, granted like you I messed up a bit. I didn't get that the last color I applied would be your main color and it was a bit more tan then I wanted but still looked good.

Camo works best when it *looks* like the lighter colors/hues are on top and darker colors are "behind". Having the colors appear to go from light to dark, creates the feeling of depth. To accomplish this, you paint in reverse order: Lightest color first, block off an area, darker color, block off more space, darker color, block off more space, darker color, etc. John from PeePeeTee got this correct whether he knew it or not. Also, yours will never look as good as that one you saw on insta. Get over it. It doesn't matter. If your mediocre rifle camo paint job is what gets you killed-in-da-streetz, you were effed from the beginning.
I would love some guidance on something that looks like digital woodland/marpat but also has tan, and slightly less black. That would probably be the best color scheme in my primary AO.
can you video on the best rifle lights I know you have an article on it but a video would be nice I'm also trying to decide to get a streamlight hlx or protac 2
That's a beautiful paint job. As for the grip fin, I don't even care, I just want an M5 so badly - I'm just waiting for Aero to make no forward assist uppers.
Eugene Stoner also didn't like .223 - mandatory to now make all ARs in .308 only! Lol, seriously though, forward assist as a "feature" is dumb. If there's something obstructing your bolt from going forward then why would you want to push it in deeper rather than removing it? Smh.
Can we see your attempt at Russian EMR/digi flora or possibly even that Swiss alpenflage? pattern camo. I think it be interesting because people haven't done them on guns at least not that I have seen before.
You need to simplify Multicam DIY Painting down to simply 4 Colors Primary and 2 accents Brown-Tan OD Green-Sage Green Cream and Dark Brown. You simply Fade the Brown to Tan and OD Green to Sage Green. Then the Small Accent Blobs of Cream and Dark Brown. Boom Muticam. The problem you and a lot of other people run into is over complications of the Color and Shapes.
Yes, you can, but most of us don't. It's kind of awkward to have that be a sling point - at least from my experience trying it out - but to each their own.
Krylon is likely going to last longer (though I personally like worn looking paint), but you're going to get many more color options out of model paints!
Freedom Stencils has a British DPM (my favorite camp) stencil that I’d love to do on my Sig M400 but I’m leary to pay 50$ for a stencil set and fuck it up.
In California, it makes it compliant with the "Assault Weapon" ban if you want a normal, detachable magazine for a centerfire, semiautomatic rifle. We also have the option to: have the magazine be "non-detachable", but those fixed-mag rifles are also prohibited from using normal capacity magazines (assuming you've acquired them legally). Long story short: gun laws here suck.
