- Toys R Us American Dream Store Tour - East Rutherford, NJ. Today we check out this one of a kind brand new Toys R Us Store that opened at the American Dream Mall just outside of New York City. Toys R Us filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2018 and liquefied all assets. A new owner bought the Toys R Us trademark and opened this new store which in 2022 is doing great. We visited in late March on a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed. Definitely acplqcecworth checking out as well as the American Dream Mall if you're ever in the NYC area!

I grew up with thornsberry and toys R us. They were huge toy stores, thornsberry was around until 1983 then went under they had a monkey as a mascot, toys R us had that graff. Thornsberry was a long time store for years since the late 1940s after WW2 like toys R us was.
It's cool to see Toys-R-Us back even if it's just the one store. Hope they're successful and are able to expand in the future.

That toys r us looks similar but the toys r us in Pittsburg California has a babies r us instead of a kids r us
We need more toys R us stores like this. Walking into a toy store make me feel like a kid again.
It sadly I don't think your average everyday town is going to get a Toys R Us at all because I think Toys R Us now as a company has this idea that they're only building these new Toys R Us stores in certain areas and if your state or your area never gets one then they think oh well an that's the way I they're thinking
It's going to take a long time.
Toys R Us kid for life here, grew up in Brooklyn NY. I was lucky, there was one right near my house ( the building is still there , it's a sad reminder ... Can still see it on Google maps ).
The website is actually up and running, the plan is to open up inside of certain Macy*s
Wonder if they have any Masters of the Universe stuff in there? Always loved picking out a new He-Man figure as a kid in the mid 80s at Toys R Us.
Thank you for that walkaround! I'm not ashamed to say that I'm a 50 yr old Toys R Us Kid! Toys R Us was a magical place for me as a kid and continued to be into my adulthood as I took my nephew and let him experience it. He has kids now so hopefully the magic will continue!
I always loved going to Toys *Я* US as a kid back in the day. Always bought my Nintendo games there. 🙂

Thats just the direction retail has moved lately. More stores have adopted the open air displays and less of the familiar yet droll long straight aisles we grew up with.

I really want to go to the American Dream Mall but it's kinda far away where I live in Connecticut but I've been to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson New Jersey and that's only about 200 miles away.
I live in NJ and haven't been to the American Dream Mall. There was a huge Toys R Us when I was younger ten minutes from my house. I loved a trip there. I have to go now to this one!
From NYC right now I'm in Chicago but maybe when I come back I want to see that mall in New Jersey it looks nice big like the one in Minneapolis Minnesota

I would love to see this incorporated into dying malls to help them trigger more foot traffic. It wouldn't completely solve their financial struggles but it would help. I miss Toys R Us so much. Fond memories. Except this one stepped foot into the 21st century!

I wasn't a Toys R Us kid, but I grew up with its predecessor.
What I miss are stationery and bookstores. My favorite toys were pens and books. Any of those stores you could find? Hello Tokyo is one such place that seems to have multiple locations.

Toys R US was always cool. I used to save up my Birthday money and Christmas money and would spend it there. I bought video games and mainly Lego's. So many good memories. 😊

Nostalgia anybody?? Well, I don't have much nostalgia because I know I'm allowed to buy toys still!! I still have toys and I'm only 16! Trust Me, I also smiled when I just looked at it! It even has a little play place to it as well! I never seen a Toy's R Us so awesome! Just there's only 1 complaint and its the music LMAO! But hey, We need to make the little kids happy too right!? I need to get my ass down to East Rutherford to get my ass inside! I live like 7 or 8 hours away in Upstate NY. So I don't I need a train LOL. Sheesh, Just realized like the name of the mall really made a dream store!! Love It!

Candy aisles? Why? It's just wasted retail space, put TOYS there.
A snack bar? Are they smoking something weird? Again, it should be used for product. That would be a good spot for pedal cars and bikes.
Why can't the Marshall Field's/Macy's vacancy at Water Tower Place, be filled with a Toys R Us store like this one? I still don't understand why the alderman and city of Chicago rejected a Target store, going into that former Field's/Macy's space myself.

Wow I missed toys r us. The new store is amazing. But something wierd in the store..... wheres the video games and consoles.. The song lyrics says "video games" but this store doesn't have it for some reason.
