  • The syngonium macrophyllum frosted heart is a very underrated houseplant that is very unique, beautiful, and easy to grow. I highly recommend this for beginners and for people who want to style an interior space with plants. I share with you in great details the care, propagate this plant into a million little pieces, wait a few months, and then show you guys the update on the cuttings.

    I made the mistake of making a 6 foot moss pole for my golden philodendron in a plastic pot! I spent more time wiring it to the pot so that it wouldn’t fall over. I used a 3 foot pvc pipe covered in spagnum moss with burlap wrapped around it and stuck a bamboo stick in it with the same covering for height. I suppose a deeper pot would have balanced it out better so I wouldn’t need so much support. This project took me three hours! 😜🤣 (including clean up) I didn’t expect to spend that much time on it! However, I secretly loved spending that much time working on it! 😂😂😂 I love your plants 🌱 and would love to add more beautiful foliage to my garden and home! Thank you for inspiring me to do more! 👍😊

    Hi, I have the other plant the Chiapenese. Yours is beautiful and has a lot more pattern, kind of like a mosaic pattern. Mine is a beautiful dark green and it grows like a boss. I’ve had it for about 9 months and propagated once. I water propagated and once I had some roots I added damp spagnem moss until I was happy with lots of roots. Then I added it to the mother pot with the spag moss for added moisture while it was getting established. The prop is doing really well with new leaves 🍃
    I’ve just taken 3 more cuttings to root and possibly sell, it’s a beautiful plant and some of my leaves are 25cm long, leaves getting bigger as it gets taller. Perhaps leave your mother plant to grow up it’s pole and your leaves will get bigger. Btw I’m in Australia

    You are the best, I’ve learned so much from you. Love your passion and excitement about plants, it’s so much fun to watch someone as plant obsessed as I am. Your videos are done so well, how you explain things is so simple for anyone to understand. I’ve watched other people’s videos and not that I’m bashing them (because I couldn’t make videos), but it’s almost torture to watch. You are so clear and to the point in your descriptions, your videos are just so well done. Just wanted to send you some praise your way. Hi Shawn! Really enjoyed this video! S. Chiapense's difference from Frosted heart is that S. Chiapense has a smoother texture and does not have white markings. Ive observed that Chiapense grows faster than frosted heart but both are equally gorgeous. I had my chiapense last year (5 leaves), now it has grown to more than 8 feet. The leaves also become bigger. The propagation part of your vid is soooo insightful! :)

    .. All new leaves are very very light green, almost white and slowly turns darker as they mature.. The difference in the leaves are the frosting and the kinda mosaic pattern..
    .. My first one (2020) was in my bedroom window (west side) growing like a weed until it outgrew the hight.. It came in a plastic pot, but when I gave it a terracotta pot it grew like crazy just about 1 meter tall.. It simply doesn't like plastic pots (root rot).. Unfortunately I lost the whole plant a year later when I propagated it, in water.. Bad idea, really bad.. Use spagnum moss, or as I just learned from watching this video, pot them up in terracotta pots right away.. The mother plant eventually died too (of grief??).. After that it kinda disappeared from market, and wasn't anywhere to be found..
    .. Now it's april 2024 and I found one 5 days ago in a garden store, and bought it.. This time it came in a terracotta pot and looks pretty good.. Though a wee little skinny at the base..
    .. How i wish that I knew about this back then.. So thank you for sharing this video ☺️

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  3 года назад +1

      Im not sure what you mean by potting soil 😀 because theres different ingredients for those. But syngoniums can even grow in garbage, they are so tough and resilient. Anyways my advice is to use a potting mix you have but do let it dry out completely between watering. You should also see the plant droop a bit when its thirsty. Overwatering plants will cause death very quickly so I would be a bit more cautious with watering
