- Sacheen Littlefeather has died from metastasized breast cancer. She was 75.
The Native American activist died at 12 p.m. Sunday at her home in Marin County, California, surrounded by her family and loved ones, according to a press release. Littlefeather's death comes just two weeks after she publicly accepted the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' apology for the hostile reception she received during the 45th Oscars in 1973 when she appeared on behalf of winner Marlon Brando.

I was looking at the history of the oscars recently that's when I heard about The Native American actress for the first time. I'm an 90s kid so I was searching for Native American actors. Such a brave woman, even from the time of a child.
So proud to be Indigenous and see my features, my face, my experience, and my culture.
So very powerful.
I love her for setting the stage for Indigenous women such as myself and I pray I can also pass that along to the next young Indigenous women who are coming up behind us.
