  • This is a basic walk-through for the SL1000. You can use it two ways; as a diagnostic tool, and as a permanently wired antenna alignment tool.

    I'd like to use this at home, not in an RV. Is there a brand/model with which I can test specific channels?

    • @RVProject

      I am sure there is, but it might be a bit expensive as it would be a service grade instrument. I have not researched products in this area.

      @@RVProject I was able to use the HDHomeRun status webpage to measure the signal strength. Obviously it helps to have a SiliconDust tuner.

    It has been two years since you made this video, but if you are still monitoring for questions, I have one (or two). What channel frequencies is the signal meter looking at? Does it include both VHF and UHF channels? And have you run across a better meter since you made this video in 2014? Thanks. Nice video by the way, steady camera and good audio.

    • @RVProject
      @RVProject  8 лет назад +2

      It is not channel specific. It just looks at wideband signals, so you don't know one channel's signal strength from the other.
      Since I did this video, I installed a new TV in the bedroom where the antenna control is. This TV has a signal strength meter built-in for each channel. So if I want the strongest signal for a particular channel, I can watch that channel's signal strength meter as I rotate the antenna.
      Unfortunately, most TVs do not have a signal strength meter, and I was lucky to find one that did. It is an Insignia 19" TV. amzn.to/1XdNLOo

      @@RVProject This appears to be useful only for RVs (which fits the title of the video). It's more like a town finder. I would like a version that you can tune to a channel and aim your antenna with it.

      It's very difficult to view those TVs that have signal meters when you're on the roof aiming your antenna.

    • @RVProject

      I have not seen a lot of modern TVs with signal level meters. The only ones I have seen that do are the Insignia line, and then it varies by model.

      Actually it's been my experience that most TVs do not have a signal strength meter built in.
      Of the three TVs I have in my RV (gosh, 3 TVs), the two that came from the factory do not have such a meter.
      Only the aftermarket Insignia TV I installed in the bedroom after purchasing the RV has a signal strength meter. Even then, I had to look at many different models of TVs to find one with this feature.
