This is far and away my favourite piece by Monteverdi. I can sing the baritone part from memory, especially “exaltabitur in gloria”, having performed it with JanJoost van Elburg. This is a wonderfully fluid and detailed performance, the balance with the theorbo is glorious, so hard to do perfectly. An absolutely delightful ensemble performance, bravo!
“Blessed be the man who FEARS the lord”… sung on a happy, joyful melody, that is imho one of the most excellent expressions of Monteverdi genius
