I don’t think it’s just a coincidence that this news comes out shortly after Mike Brown is extended. The direction that this organization has committed to has been made clear and judging by the way Brown handled Sasha’s role, it isn’t in his favor. I am disappointed that coach was unable to utilize him or at the very least give him a real chance to earn a consistent role all season. Smh.

How do you expect someone to get in rythm when you give him inconsistent minutes and he has to guess if he's playing every game.

I never once recalled Sasha getting abused defensively throughout the year. Yea, there were a few mistakes here and there, but he was a freaking rookie in a different league. Like Deuce said, you need him to have consistent minutes to actually learn and find a rhythm. Trey Lyles is a below average defender who mostly just shoots 3s. He is not better than Sasha, yet got 20 minutes a night scoring a measly 7 pts. Brown is 100% at fault for not giving him a chance.

Just some context coming from an Olympiacos fan, first of all, Sasha before coming to Olympiacos he was at a really young age, transferred to Barcelona, a huge European club after coming from an amazing season as the Greek top scorer from a relatively smaller and low budget club, called Aris B.C. In Europe, there isn't just one organisation like the NBA. What I mean is that there is the Euroleague at the top, the Eurocup at the middle and BCL after and the national championships at the bottom (apart from Spain which is really competitive). So, Sasha had to move from a level like BCL to the Euroleague, where the level is by far higher. There he was faced with the same thing that he faced last season. A coach that didn't trust him and at times he wasn't even playing. At some point, Georgios Bartzokas (the current coach of Olympiacos) came to Barcelona as the new head coach. Then he started playing and bettering himself. However, when the coach was fired, Barcelona stopped playing him once again (ruclips.net/video/PZscJUR_sa0/видео.html from 6:40).
When his contract was done, he came to Olympiacos (without Bartzokas initially). Again, not given the opportunity to play. Some years later and after the head coach of Olympiacos (Blatt) was fired, then Bartozkas came to the team. Everything again changed! He started playing again and Bartzokas centered the whole team around Sasha and his off-ball movement. Just to imagine, he was similar to Klay Thompson but with the importance of Curry at Olympiacos. During his time, even in Europe, he had major defensive problems but since offensively he was so important, it was ok (imagine a situation like Sabonis).
In all honesty, I think that the problem here is that the Kings' scouting was insufficient. You can't follow a player that closely and not realise how defensively he might be a problem. Also, he isn't the sharpshooter that you say. He is mostly making the contested shots, I mean he is mostly a scorer and not a pure shooter. So again, they should have wondered if there would be a possibility of adapting to a smaller role, considering that previously the whole team was based around him (imagine suddenly Sabonis having to play only 15 minutes without him being the hub of the Kings' offence, weird right?) (ruclips.net/video/tYL-B0ecaVU/видео.html)
It's difficult at his age to get used to a small role. It's not an ego thing of course, he is a great guy and he only cares about the team winning, but the thing is that he will turn 29 and these are his best years. The fact that his girlfriend (Nicole Eleftheriadou) still plays for Olympiacos' polo team and that even his best friend returned to Olympiacos (Nikola Milutinov) and he has so many other friends in the team, makes you realise that he might want to come back. His father and a large portion of Bulgarian people really wanted him to go to the NBA, so I feel like he had no choice but to go to the NBA.
Moreover, a thing that you need to take into consideration is that in Greece players are getting paid the full amount of money on their contracts since the owners are the ones who pay the tax (which is considerably lower than in California), they are also given a free place to level and a free car. What I mean by this is that the money isn't that far apart from what he gets in the NBA. He is most likely going to find a 4 million euro contract here, so with all these in mind he is probably going to get the same amount of money as in the NBA.
Lastly, as I mentioned on Twitter, Michalis Stefanou is one of Sasha's closest friends and probably the most legitimate source you can have from Sasha's side. (here is the interview that Sasha gave to Stefanou a few months ago, when Stefanou came to Sacramento to visit him ruclips.net/video/J07BfITnY1M/видео.htmlsi=0s9niUERyNM8ybUG . Unfortunately, it's only in Greek)

Mike Brown is 80% the reason why and the other 20% being injury. There were plenty of times where he could have had minutes down the stretch. The analogy Mo uses about earning minutes is understandable but she’s lying to herself to say he wasn’t good enough to play 15 consistent minutes. I know you guys can’t always speak your total mind due to your positions so close to the team and I’ll accept that but on top of all that his team defense wasn’t drastically bad. For reference his defensive rating was 115, lyes was 116.5, Barnes 118.8, and Keegan 115.6. A lower rating is a better thing. So to imply he wasn’t good enough defensively is just not correct. He looks stiff as hell, and I wouldn’t want him defending sf or sg on the wing but he wasn’t trash. I know defensive rating isn’t a perfect stat (nothing is) but it’s a start. Harrison Barnes was damn near awful. Barnes isn’t as good a shooter and I’d argue he’s not as good a rebounder. On top of all that, we didn’t make the playoffs. We had injuries and scoring was an issue and one of our best shooters didn’t get play. I feel Brown just has/had some bias against Vezenkov and I definitely question some of his choices this season. I hope next seasons better and if Vezi gets traded I wish him well and if he gets a chance to play, I think he will be solid and appreciated on a team that dedicates 15-20 mins a game to him.

definitely not holding back...we're free to speak our minds. Thought we covered all of the angles. I don't think Brown trusted him out there like other players who knew a little better. However one player is not greater than a whole team and the direction the Kings went was the right direction (developing defense). This was another case of mismanagement by the Sacramento Kings. The guy as you mentioned was a Euroleauge MVP and really was THE man in Europe, who the Sacramento Kings went after feverishly, who he taught would be give SIGNIFICANT playing time but, was not. He was given some opportunities, but struggled to adjust to the NBA style of play like a lot of players do in their first season, especially the ones coming from outside of the U.S. Look, the mighty freak, Giannis Antetokounmpo, played pretty much the whole season his first year yet average less than 7 points a game and, and this is for someone who later became the MVP and a champion, that tells you the difficulty of first year NBA players.
I believe the Sacramento Kings' expectations and his expectations which were out of whack are to blame for the disastrous outcome. Sacramento could use his services next season especially if Monk bolts for more money elsewhere. Too bad for your Sacramento Kings because it looks like the relationship has soured.
Sasha Vezenkov fits more with championship caliber teams, especially teams with next to nothing bench production. For example, the Mavs' bench 7 points in Game 2 finals, the Denver Nuggets' 5 bench points in the important Game 7 against the Wolves, the Golden State Warriors push for another title run could use his services. These are just some teams that would surely make him happy to join.
Some food for thought: Sasha Vezenkov's numbers are definitely better than Giannis Antetokounmpo in their first year given the same playing time.

How do you, as a team, determine after one incomplete year that "it didn't work out" with a player? He never got an opportunity to work anything out. The scouting report was that he was such a great shooter, and we didn't get shots for him. For a team that had ZERO scoring off the bench outside of Monk.
It's kinda like Keegan Murray, in that we know how good of a shooter AND scorer he is, but we didn't get him enough shots, besides DHO threes (and we often forgot about him even when he would get hot). This offense makes guys who aren't named Fox or Sabonis exclusively three points shooters, which pigeon-holes and limits their potential. And even Fox settled for threes FAR too often. There's real no motion, just checking threes. There's no "making guys better". I get Mike Brown came from Golden State, but he also has experience BEYOND just Golden State, and just because living and dying by the three worked THERE does not mean it's gonna work HERE. We're not Golden State and we DON'T have Steph & Klay. Matter of fact, that style of play hasn't worked for ANYBODY else. Our stubbornness and inability to adapt is our downfall, and I feel like we wasted a guy like Sasha if he does leave. Look how long we stubbornly refused to play Alex Len last year while getting punished by so many bigger lineups. We waste people for no reason. Sometimes I wonder, if we HAD "drafted Luka", whether Mike Brown would find some dumb ass reason not to play him. "He's not a good defender", after all...

Right decision for Vezenkov and Sacramento given how things went out. There were lots of inconsistencies in Brown rotations .Not just Vezenkov but other players too, it was very sporadic and desperate at times. Imo there is something which both sides dont say as both were too political. There was even something before season , it was evident from the press release by Brown when he even said that before season that Sasha might not be in the rotation. It was evident that Vezenkov was under-utilized. One game he plays well and contributes to a win then 4 DNPs and then 20min and then 3 DNPs for example. As you said, he wasnt given a proper chance. The thing with Vezenkov is that he is a system player that relies on a system that creates him shots, passes him the cuts while in Sacramento there was lots of Iso outside of Sabonis and Fox. Additionally, there are other things which are subjective and not on public eye, I think a similar case with Campazzo in NBA who was a dog on defense and fought for everything, he was still snubbed although he is a top guard internationally.

I think Mike Brown did Sasha dirty. In the games where he did play, he was always a sparkplug off the bench. Getting everybody hyped and the team going. And Brown himself hardly ever talked about him when asked. He would just repeat the same "he's a great shooter and rebounder, but I don't know if he'd make the rotation". I think if Sasha had come in during the 2022-23 season, there may have been more of a role for him. But it looks like by the time he got to the Kings, Mike Brown had a different outlook on what their brand of basketball would be like this year. I really hope Sasha stays in the NBA and gets traded to another team, like the Bulls, for example. They could use him.

I wasn't really a fan of the Sasha experience with the Kings and wouldn't be sad to see it end. The fact is in the NBA you take chances on things and sometimes they just don't work out. The Kings took a chance on him, he took a chance trying the NBA, and for I'm sure a number of reasons, it just didn't work with this particular team at this time. Life goes on. I feel like some of the reactions to this in the comments a little too dramatic for what it is and I think it's partly because of how much fans started to hype him last summer imagining what he could contribute, but the caveat was always going to be "if it works out" and "best case scenario." I just don't think he fit here and the injury didn't help.
This is a totally unfair characterization by me and just my opinion but my biggest issue with him was he just didn't seem to bring any positive vibes to the team at all. I'm not saying every player has to be Mason Jones, but he always seemed to be at the end of the bench, maybe talking to Sabonis or someone, not really seeming to be engaged in the huddles or anything like that. Again, totally unfair by me, just my opinion from my very limited window to the team as a fan. This is supposed to be an "all in" team and he just did not feel like an "all in" player. It was more about him as an individual and his transition to the NBA and the states, which is perfectly understandable considering it was such a huge life and career change for him, but this is a team that is driven by real aspirations to win and win as a team and he just didn't fit that culture. I'm not saying he can't for another team or whatever, but every team is different and I just found his whole presence underwhelming.

I don't think Mike Brown handled the rotation well. He trusted Barnes even when he was terrible and just few times gave around 20 minutes to Sasha. Sasha's time was also very inconsistent. To have some rhythm you should know your basic role in the rotation - when will be your time to play and who will be your teammates then. Yes, the injury he got was really bad but the coaching staff didn't help him to find himself with constant role on the field. Look Micić, another Euro MVP. He is like reborn when he moved from OKC to Hornets and got more minutes. Vezenkov had similar situation before in Barcelona like now in Sacramento. He just changed the team with Olympiacos and everything fitted. That's why I think indeed he wants to do the same, moving to another NBA team and to use his last year guaranteed to be somewhere he will play more consistent minutes. I'm betting on Brooklyn, Washington, Chicago or Phoenix. I'm sorry for the Kings.

This is almost just exactly like the Luka Doncic's draft. Mike Brown when reach deep into his bench would still rather play the more defensive-minded Kessler Edwards over Sasha. We should've given Sasha a more legitimate shot the exact same way we should've let Luka and Fox figure it out, instead, we threw the baby away with the bath water and just giving up these talented guys (which I'm sure if he's gone and trying to stay in the NBA, knowing the Kings, Sasha will come back and drop 40 on us with the Pistons or something haha) before putting them through some thicks and thins.

I see a lot of people blaming Mike Brown. It's not Mike Brown's fault that Sasha is limited defensively, it's not Mike Brown's fault Sasha showed no playmaking game, it's not Mike Brown's fault Sasha showed no offensive ability off the bounce - Sasha made only 9 unassisted baskets all season long.
(When a coach's rotations seem wild, it's typically because he's trying to find *something* on the roster that will work).
If the Kings want to move on from Sasha, if Sasha wants out of Sacramento, honestly, I get it either way. It's really hard for a competitive NBA team to give a guy more than 12 minutes a night when all he can do at the NBA level is spot-shoot. At the same time, Sasha's been paid millions of dollars, more money than he'll ever need, so might as well go back home where he can be The Guy in a city that's not thousands of miles away from everyone & everything he knows.
So all told, it's probably best for all parties involved if they can find a way to move on amicably.
