I’m a PR in the navy and while on deployment the ship would go into “deceptive lighting” or an EMCON where all the ship’s outside lights are off, and when you’re in the middle of the Ocean with absolutely zero light pollution, you can see BILLIONS of stars!! It’s absolutely breathtaking!

There are some RUclipsrs who've shown off some DIY 3d printed Nods, would be interesting to see your take on those. Last time I checked early versions were $200-450 in parts, which is quite the price difference. Probably an involved build process though.

I highly recommmend looking into the 3D printed PVS-69. DIY digital night vision is nothing new, but some people have brillianty made a housing that uses removable digital camera tubes that are compatible with nvg analog intensifier tubes!
They're ok, I have the full digital gen3 version which do not accept analog intensifiers, cost me about $650 plus g24, helmet, etc and I use IR illumination eviscerated from an old IP camera which blasts clean IR light in near 180° out to 80ish feet. Eotech and Delta point pro dots all look crisp under nods I don't use passive aiming like a peq. I also drive my side by side using them which takes a lot of practice and getting used to the lack of depth perception because I'm using 8mm lenses so everything looks farther than it really is which has got me into trouble in the trails 😁. In summary they're a pretty good poor man (frugal man) option for nods.
@@jackrackham3406 the biggest differences to analog are; rectangular view screen vs round, slightly zoomed out feeling unless you were to get something like a 12mm lens but things appear farther away and smaller than they really are, and lastly the cameras cause distortion when you're going into complete dark with no ir illum. Picture quality is very good and the field of view is way better on the digitals. You can also go from a fully lit room to complete dark with ir and the cameras switch from color to black and white.
I can't seem to find NVG-40's anywhere anymore. Also, can I say that I'm happy you used the word phosphor instead of phosphorus like some people like to say lol
But it is still sad that a lot of the channels history is now gone, because I love those old videos. He didn’t do anything to break policy, but so sad to know that all those videos are gone and re-upload versions get struck down immediately.

Oh and btw, another thing to keep note of is that camouflage and BDUs under nods can glow like the sun depending on how they are washed. This is the reason a lot of chargers will tell you not to wash your combat threads in detergents or softeners. Solid content brotha, always love seeing your posts come up on the feed ❤
The washing thing is overrated. Everyone washes and it's not an issue. NIR compliance was a thing because a lot of companies were using cheap foreign fabrics with incorrect dyes, so they had to treat them to not glow under night vision. Chances are if you buy US made clothing it is not going to have that issue. It's like eye splash. People who have never done force on force with night vision think the eye splash is some kind of huge beacon that gives away your position when it really isn't. Noise is the most compromising factor, which is a factor of movement.

I ran training and sim ops with MSATO for 5 years and some dudes had BDUs that legitimately glowed in gen 3 to the point that their straps, carriers, belts, and other cordura fabrics contrasted against it so badly they looked like some kind of weird ass glowing skeleton. I’m not tryna say you’re completely wrong, just saying I’ve seen the worst case scenario and to your point the cheap ass chinesium stuff was the worst offender but one case in particular was Crye gen 2 that was glowing. Dude we called out for it said he used tide pods or some bs I don’t remember lol. Either way, it doesn’t hurt to wash combat threads with soap for sensitive skin which has the least amount of additives. YMMV, its a free country, just trying to share my experience with folks. Friend had a PVS-14, and decided when we were camping to show us how to use it. You're not lying about the stars, you can see literally everything. There is so much more detail than you'd normally see.
To anyone looking for poor nods, the pvs-7 is completely serviceable and under rated with an omni vii tube. They get lots of hate by people that have never used them. Passive aiming is over rated and I have both a 7 and 14.
I had a pvs7 and I hated it. People can pick up a used gen 3 pvs14 in good condition on tacswap for 2k or less, seen some for 1800 with some very small dark spots or peppering in zone 1 and/or 2. Just save for a couple more weeks and get something easy to carry that can slide in most pockets and be stored in many containers, and holds resale value much better than a pvs7

Digital is better than nothing. A Sionix Aurora Sport is pretty cheap, about the same price as your PSA AR, or a Bushnell monocular in Gen I or Gen II. I don't fault anyone for having stuff that isn't top shelf snob tier equipment, as that is how I started out. You get used to your nocturnal environment that way.
The VIR2 is highly underrated. No it’s not a full power laser, and yes I wish there was a laser only setting. However, the actual laser is just as bright as a Holosun, Surefire, or Steiner, because they’re all neutered civ laser powered. So when you get white light, IR illuminator and an IR laser for $300, that’s a pretty good deal.
you have to use that vocal effect on a blink 182 styled track one of these times. I know you're the kind of the EDM tracks but your voice with that effect is too perfect for a blink song that you should totally do it lol. Also just a side note, thank you for frequently reminding me why I got the desktop speakers that came with the sub for a reason, never gets utilized until your hardbass slaps

Im a poor I bought two AGM global NL1 gen 2+ green phosphor WOLF-14s and a mod armory mum14 bridge for duals, and I also have a gen 3 milspec PVS-7D BIOCULAR, but I'm liking my dual set up I have, definitely will be upgrading to a AGM global nvg40 binos in green phosphur gen 2+ NL-1, or I might buy a bino bridge and two pvs14 contract tubes and some Carson lenses and do a bino build. I use mum14/flir breach j arms and Wilcox g-11 for my monoculars.
Will just say, I own a pair of the Wolf 14-NL1 with the gen 2+ tubes. They work fine, although if you have a keen eye you will notice a blem here and there, hence the level 2 classification, also more IR light is needed to actually see into darker areas and the “view finder” hole that you see into, the photocathode tube is pretty small so you do have to get your eyes fairly close to the NODs in order to get more FOV out of them. Just something to think about if your considering buying the gen 2+ version of these goggles. Other then those things clarity is great out of the set that I have. With enough light there is also not that much “noise” that comes through.
That is not the reason for the “level” 2 classification. The blems you are referring to happen in the manufacturing process, probably. As far as the eye relief on your wolf-14 that’s probably due to the glass the wolf unit uses. I’m not sure if they use pvs optics or not. Gen2+ is different than both gen 2 and 3.
I have a agm fusion tm35-640 monocular it has night vision and thermal. The night vision is digital I'm fairly sure and works great with ir light. Not so good without it. But the thermal and fusion mode is absolutely insane. Also has a sweet laser rangefinder.
