In the NBA, he plays iso ball whenever Tatum isn't involved. That's not the kind of player you want on Team USA. I would choose Payton Prichard over Damian Lillard because one of those two is a team player.

JB is a fantastic player but they have more than enough fantastic players. They need people who are willing to fit in, not try and take over. JB isn't a better defender than Bron. He's not better offensively than KD. He's not a better floor general than anyone on that team.
Is he a better overall player than Derrick White? Yes. Period. Is he a better FIT for this particular team than Derrick White? Nope. It's debatable, but he's not so otherworldly great that adding him instantly turns their fortunes.

3 hall of fame coaches came together and selected Derrick White for a reason. He is a better playmaker and defender than Brown, and has zero issues with playing a role. Tbh Grant Hills thinking is pretty valid. This team is loaded with stars already, Derrick White's offensive game revolves around eating off others and playing within the flow of the game. On defense, he's a menace. There's a reason people call him a superstar role player, its the kind of guy that is perfect for a team like USA. Similar to Jrue Holiday in that regard who has always been great on Team USA.
Its not that Derrick White is a bad pick, but it is curious that they chose a different position when Jaylen Brown is so comparable to Kawhi that it seemed like a no-brainer to take him as a fill-in.
