Let’s see… where to start? Denial? At a recent meeting of a group of officials from a county education department, and counsellors and curators of a local museum, the subject of AI was discussed. The staffs in charge of educational reach were shocked but willing to listen. How do we do our jobs in the face of the new technology? The art curators? No, no, no, no, no… refused to even discuss the idea that AI will affect their work. Because people will always be able to tell the difference… right… right? Please tell us we’re right. Can’t we all spot the problem here? AI is coming, it is already here, it has been, for I fear to ask how long. The only thing is to adapt, as humanity has had to do from the time a bunch of eggheads said, we can compress your life to 00100000 01100011 01101111 01100111 01101001 01110100 01101111 00100000 01100101 01110010 01100111 01101111 00100000 01110011 01110101 01101101 00001010
hello mate! what a great feedback here and so much to think and take in. I agree with you entirely and sadly I was a bit misunderstood by the AI crowd and the ones in denial. This video got over 200 dislikes because I spoke the truth and I guess people are not ready to face reality. of course this will affect everyone particularly in the arts world! it has affected a lot of people I know personally already. but again there will be I think 2 sides to it, I think a lot of people will still value human made art but very few!
@@RicPuzzles Hi there Ric 🙂 I see a future when puzzle makers will have collections with what they’ll call, “artists’ originals”. I agree with you, the big brands won’t lower their prices, but they will charge a wee bit more for the privilege to own a “genuine” Aimee Stewart or Dominic Davison, as opposed to something that “likens” their output. Aside true collectors, how many puzzlers will bother to pay for authenticity? And what is the definition of authenticity? How many artists are already using AI to compose their creations? Are they cheating? It is still the artist’s work, isn’t it? What is the nature of art? What does anthropology have to say on the subject? I am going to work on a puzzle and ponder these questions.
This is so good, your questions couldn't be more valid mate! I ask myself all these questions all the time nowadays, not just in puzzleland but all aspects of art expressions. I agree too that we will end up paying a wee more for original work but we are evolving so much with technologies that what is original as you pointed out will shift in meaning as well. There are a few very interesting videos on RUclips at that are raising awareness to a major shift that's starting to shape up in society in general and we will probably get the worst of it as the pioneers in it, or per set the guinea pigs before it all makes more sense and becomes part of a brighter more unified future. If I find some of these videos I can pass on to you here.
@@RicPuzzles That’ll be great! Got to be prepared. "May you live in interesting times", so the expression goes. Personally, I’d love them to be less interesting, but here we are. Have a fun weekend 🙂
yet another mind-blowing take, I couldn't agree more, Ric, my niece is here with us this week and we just watched your vid, she asked me to tell you she is having sleepless nights because she is a designer for a big brand and some of her workmates have already been made redundant in the past month alone due to the new techs, as you explained, even the cleaners now can do the designer work with 1 click. thanks for the great video.
Hello mate thank you so much for dropping by today i really appreciate that and hey plz tell your niece that im sorry to hear that, she must be going through some serious consideration now eh. Thats why i thought it was so immensely important to show you guys this because its happening right now and it seems like people are not paying much attention but it will indeed affect all if us!!! Thx again mate
Same here, my older brother works for a large graphic design company that prints postcards and posters: he is seeing labor cuts on all aspects of the industry as one employee is able to do the work that previously needed 10, 20 people. Scary! 😢
Brands can create a database from various means to generate specific themed puzzle effects (i.e., fantasy, skylines, dreamscape, syfy, and so on). I can also see this helpful when a puzzle is missing pieces, especially when a puzzle is out of print. There will be people on both sides being for A.I. dipping into the puzzle world 🤔
Hello Simplydee! Yep im sure this ai situation is going to generate a lot of dilemmas as days go by as problems will emerge particularly in the ethical side of things and the job losses that will follow, either in mass or little by little, which will generate other issues on top of it all! I thought it was so important to share this because it seems like no one paying much attention in the puzzle world and its so huge for good or for bad! Thx again for your input, so much for us to think about on this isnt it!
Wow Ric! This is truly an eye opener. This is sad for all especially the creators whether it is the artists, illustrators and photographers, etc...The human emotion will be gone 😔Thank you for sharing your video!
good day Marlene, thank you for enjoying this different vid, I felt compelled to have this discussion today as very few of us are raising the bells of what is really going on, glad to hear you have walked away knowing different today, this makes me very happy! indeed, the human emotion side of it is what scares me the most, of course the job losses too, but as an end buyer it is too, the human side, that I will miss.
indeed Stacy! I feel like they will just go up instead haha but one of the comments here kind of made sense: if so many new small companies may appear, like a one-man business with good prices and great puzzles, the big ones will also be obsolete if they don't catch u real quick! so maybe, maybe...there will be a possibility of having cheaper and more competitive prices too! something I didnt think about.
👉🏻 Hello friends! For the non-puzzlers watching this, Please remember that this video is an open discussion on the subject - both good and bad, this is not a video against AI!!! most of the serious talk is after the examples with both good and bad aspects - see 18 minutes onwards, plz if you have a few mins to spare make sure to watch the video properly as this subject is inevitable and will affect all of us.
Ok Ric, this was fantastic!!! I'm only just starting the vid so I won't say much more- but I did watch a great vid on how when companies buy the art they lay the puzzle cut digitally over the pic and then can add birds or whatever to make sure all pieces have a "clue" on them.
hello Stacy! it feels like we're pals already eh, thank you for checking this new video! it's so freaking amazing to hear your feedback. wow this is some weird puzzle thing, I will see if I can find it! if I do another video on this, I'll mention this too! I know this was a VERY long video hahah so n hard feelings if you couldn't watch it all!
Hi Ric, For me, this is simply panic-inducing. I think we're playing with a lot of things at the moment, attracted by the lure of novelty and the possibilities we see, but we're not weighing up all the consequences that will follow. On the other hand, it's impossible to curb human curiosity - it's what has made us strong (and sometimes lost) in the past. I don't think I'll ever buy AI-generated puzzles. At least, not knowingly. I'm passionate about art in all its forms, as long as it expresses human emotions. For me, there's no human warmth in artificial creation, no point of view, no transmission of something. It's sterile "art". So I may be an old lady, but I'll still buy my vintage puzzles that most people find boring, my reproductions of classical paintings because that's the only way I can afford them, the puzzles of contemporary illustrators because they do a great job, and I'll leave to others the soulless gradients and puzzles produced by the regurgitation of human art by a machine that understands nothing about it... But I have no doubt that it's going to become "hype", that prices are going to go up because of the novelty and that the repercussions in terms of employment are going to be catastrophic... Thank you for this post. We need posts like this to raise awareness. Have a lovely day. I think it’s beginning where you live. And sorry for the long comment and the not so good English. I should have asked to Chat GPT to write it …
well my friend, this is such a great feedback, thank you for that, this is what I wanted from this video, to hear your opinion too. Im the same Drewdee, I love my old "boring" puzzles so much, you will see my collection 4 video of the old Waddingtons very soon, I gave about 35 away recently because they were just using space but you might like the houses, the thatched villages there are so many beautiful older puzzles here and I sure now will not be giving a single one away haha. I couldn't agree more, no feelings, no emotion, what's the point? unless the image is very well done and has a story behind it, I find it to be dreadful. That is why I dont like the one solid colour puzzles, they feel like just cash cows for me. and thank you for your feedback. I was told DonnaLouise has done a discussion like this 3 months ago at @fortheloveofpuzzles channel, which I am yet to watch at the time of this reply, so you may want to check it out too! thx again!
I like gradients....you can find some beautiful artist produced gradients like Aimee Stewarts water drop gradient by Buffalo puzzles....or Josie lewis work on buffalo puzzles
@@rebekahnerad4900 fair enough, as a very very small channel starting out im really trying not to be too harsh on certain puzzles for now 😂 but nope i really dislike one colour/gradients indeed. If we have all the same taste the world would be so boring eh 😂😂
omg Ric, this is fascinating and very scary, thank you very much for sharing this information, I must be living under a rock but it made perfect sense to me. I think that as you said the prices will keep going up while the puzzle factory will be making more money than ever. I will share this on FB right now.
Hello Pomparum, thanks for the great input i was really hoping to have some here. Indeed this is very scary and as i mentioned in the video some of my mates are already losing their jobs over this ai tech so it’s a real double sword dilemma isnt it!
A fascinaing video Ric! You made some excellent points on both sides. I feel this will heavily impact the artists and could render them obsolete in the future. My favourite artists are Dominic Davison, David Maclean and Steve Crisp and each of those artists have a certain feel or mood to their puzzles. I'm sadden to know that all their hard work and passion for the art will no longer be need because of AI. I would hope and want puzzle companies to label their boxes "artist original" or "AI generated". This way I can make the decision on which type of puzzle I want to support. In regards to the price, I highly doubt that puzzle companies would reduce their price. Thanks so much for this intriguing video.
oh my! hello there, what a pleasant surprise to wake up and see your comment here, it's so much appreciated to hear from another puzzle channel. Thank you! Sandra, isn't it a scary subject? honestly i'm still processing all of this but I wanted to bring it up ASAP so that others can think about all of this too before they go blindly into the near future without actually think about all of the consequences - particularly on the job loss side of it - which seems so far inevitable. So glad you enjoyed the info here. indeed, I as well would love to have puzzles clearly labeled, but I suspect they might slip through the gaps for some time before regulations are put in place. it may be a year or longer before companies are required by law to state who created the picture eh? so scary! I will check the artists you mentioned, Im so bad with names (hence I keep bringing the same names over and over hahaha). Thx again!
That was something different and interesting, thank you very much. I liked that you brought in your perspective as an anthropologist. You made valid points. I would add the following thoughts concerning puzzle designs: As a commentator here already stated, AI generated images often look sorta creepy, and in my opinion that's especially the case with images of living beings where AI has its problems. You can check that for yourself on websites that show a new AI generated person every time you open them, and often you can somehow tell that there is something wrong. (I tried to put my finger on it and i think it's often clearly visible when you are looking at the earlobes, earrings, the course of wrinkles and the clothing, and somehow the pictures lack depth.) On the other side, when AI is used to generate or redesign a room (like some programs allow you to do it by adding a picture of a room of your home and choosing what style you want to redecorate it), the results are really, really amazing and i couldn't tell that this is AI generated. You can also generate fascinating environments that could not exist this way in reality and that are so beautiful to look at. That's just what i wanted to add designwise.
hello Sortasnoopy, hope you are really well! thank you so much for taking a few mins to check this out, isn't it scary AF? I didnt want to go on but ended up like throwing everything at once hahah so thx for the patience on this and taking something good out of it! glad you enjoyed it. yes I totally agree, some of these arts are really weird eh! there's a video here on Yt about a park of sorts all done via ai and that is so creepy! omg...indeed! I have been experimenting with environments too, I wanted to remove all the clutter in the background of my vids as I dont have any proper studio for my videos, it's really fascinating what one can do, remove wall, add couches that look perfectly real! omg...there are always too sides to everything isn't there! again so cool to hear your opinion and suggestions, very much appreciated.
Very interesting narrative. There are so many implications with this new technology, on so many fronts. You did a good job keeping the discussion balanced.
Hello Larry, thanks for the feedback on this one- a little bit of a disturbing subject but i felt that it needed to be brought up for discussion, it’s a tricky one eh, the original video was close to 70 minutes but i had to trim it down and redo a few parts, hope it all made sense at the end anyway 😁 glad to hear that it was a balanced discussion on my part. Indeed mate, this is literally the 3rd month of this new tech which will now move to videos, they are about to announce the video update which will then render all Hollywood actors for example obsolete, we are about to see a change in the world as we had never experienced in human history and the puzzles are just a very small grain in the sand in all this
not to make light of this, but this tells me I need to run out now and buy as many puzzles as I can!!! no guilt, no budget.... buy all the ones on my wish list!!! very good Ric your channel will go far!!!
🤣 same here, I suddenly feel compelled to buy new puzzles asap ahahah thank you so much Kathy for the support, this comment meant a lot to me as a very small channel. thx again
It's incredible, but still... how about the real artists? Will they lose their jobs? I think there is a tiny possibility that we won't need them in the future 😢 there is this puzzle company, extremely expensive in Poland but with a great quality of puzzle pieces called Magnolia. Now they realised a new "sub-brand" Yazz which is cheaper but with the same quality. How is that? They say, they don't need to pay for copyright. Why? Because almost all of their pictures are generated by AI. It it fair? For me no. And in my opinion pictures generated just by AI are creepy, I see that there is something not right with them, something disturbing. But future is here, we can't stop it.
Hello Raija! Wow thanks for coming in today and for the great input in this issue! Raija im scared and also a little happy but as i mentioned in the video this is so important for us to talk about because its really gonna change everything! And i see now from what you are saying that this is already happening for real! This company is indeed saving tons of money now by not needing artists. I think there should be some kind of regulation before its too late- it makes sense that no copyright means less expenses so there you go, it’s already happening right in front of our eyes isn’t it! I wonder how long it will take for all puzzle brands to get ai driven. I think its just a matter of months. Thx again for the comment and yep i agree a lot of ai stuff is plain creepy hahah
Wow thats Unsolved puzzle im glad to hear that! Hope you were able to watch all of this very long video 😁 thx again!!! Hope you have a great week ahead btw 👏
Greeting Ric, as a Japanese fan, I am familiar with this and we have been using similar tech for some time here, but I had not much idea of what it will bring with this, thank you very much, it is eye opener.
Good day Onanuki, thanks for dropping by and for let us know of the situation in Japan, im glad to know this made you think outside your perspective with this! thanks again!
@@RicPuzzles yes, we use similar tech on almost everything, from packaging to puzzles, the artists are ahead in this game, I hope the rest of the world do the same too.
I enjoyed this very much, it’s very accurate and it shows what is happening now. A lotta my friends here in Brazil are using this technology and it’s scary what it can do. For sure jobs will be lost. This is seriously something that needs more documentation and understanding, so thank you for clarifying it to me in such details, i will keep my old puzzles now, they will be worth a fortune in the future
Hello Canalbrasil thank you for checking out this new video and hope it was useful somehow to you. Im glad to hear that more people or puzzlers like us are aware of this are open for a serious discussion! If you have more thoughts on this plz dont hesitate to drop a line here! Wishing you a great week buddy!
Big 5 STARS on this video, I loved it!! This is absolutely incredible, and absolutely scary at the same time. It's amazing how far technology has come, and how it continues to take the place of actual work done by people. But as scary as this is, I am finding this AI world fascinating and exciting at the same time. I am no artist, but I have the vision/imagination. Having no artistic skills, I can still create my painting/image just by telling the computer my vision...it's incredible really, to be able to make my vision appear for other eyes to see. My husband has actually started delving into the AI world, and has created some amazing things with it. I guess his mindset is that if you can't beat it, join it LOL, because It's going to take over no matter what. Fun fact, my RUclips banner was his creation. It's actually me as a Disney type character, which he created using actual photos of me and telling the computer to basically Disney-fy me. He's created other version of me based on styles of some of my favorite stories/universes. It's mind-blowing.
Hello Mandy, wow thank you so much for taking the time to check this out, it looks like i got the attention i was after with this one: tons of views due to the ai tags and tons of thumbs down too 🥲 - omg, are we being silenced for simply questioning! 😂 but yes it’s so interesting that all of this is happening and how much we can make out of it. I am restoring family photos atm with this and the results are amazing- another positive aspect of this, if im taking someone else’s work by doing it myself? Thats the question i guess that i will have to live with 😁 it’s so cool to know your husband is into it too! That’s definitely an area that im very intrigued by atm, been using chat gpt to make some cool stuff too but again how much this will impact the industry is the big question! A few other comments here mention that friends and family are losing jobs over ai which is probably the biggest negative of all this and is mostly the focus of this video but as it is inevitable indeed, we might ad well at least know what it is and how it works and question all the aspects of it, and also make it an ally not an enemy of it! so thank you for the great input here. I kind of wondered you were a very creative person, i bet you’re a pisces as well! 😅 i know this vid may come across as sensationalist but it seems to be working, people are paying attention at least and adding their thoughts which is so priceless! So thank you again Mandy. I really appreciated that. I loved the new banner, it represented tou very well! If you have adobe cloud membership you should try this beta version of photoshop, it’s worth at least giving it a go too!
Greetings Ric, I have to admit that I'm indulging myself with ai these days but thank you for exposing both sides of the coin in an impartial way (kind of?), very interesting video, excellent topic and very well done video altogether. I would have added your camera on the side of the video during the segment with the examples, it would have been more interesting and more impactful. Plus we would get to see that pretty face more! Thank you.
hello friend! wow thanks for the great feedback today, glad to hear you are exploring the good side of AI, im having a bit of fun too (and trying not to cross lines hehe) I surely have noted the suggestion about the camera, couldn't agree more thank you so much for the idea! hahah lol, I considered not showing face at all haha
Wow, this was so interesting. I can't believe how the additional imaging matched with the original image. Amazing. I have mixed feelings on AI generated art. I know this is only the beginning of changes in the art world. I also do adult coloring and there is a lot of controversy in the coloring community with the books and artwork on the market. In the future, will puzzle companies have to say if an image is AI or artist created. I don't think the cost of puzzles will come down, but I think the companies have to realize that if they raise prices a lot, people won't be able to afford them. Thanks Ric for this interesting video.
Hey Laverne! welcome back mate an thanks for watching btw...sorry for my lack of tech jargons here as I only got this app to try it out hehe unlike you an artist. indeed, this is such a huge turn for us all isn't it, I think by the end of the year things will have evolved so much more that it will affect all aspects of the artwork, from Hollywood (happening now) to complete and mass-layoffs this is scary...again, I hope that the companies will specify indeed what is human and what is AI art/puzzles! lets just wait and see what happens! and the adult world too...damn...it's coming my friend..
Fascinating. Great video, terrific commentary. My initial thoughts were that I should save all my puzzles, once completed,as they will be more valuable in the future.
Hello Bathilda! Thx for dropping by and taking the time to leave an input on this, indeed this is scary and fascinating isnt it. Im glad that someone out there found it useful and is aware now that this is not some distant future thing- its really happening now! If you have a few minutes plz read some of the comments here- seems like we all know someone who is already being affected - either job losses or other ai related issues. This is truly something we should be talking about more in out community of puzzlers! Thx again for you comment and yep plz save ur puzzles they might be very valuable in the future as a lot of people will repel or avoid ai stuff all together!
@@RicPuzzles there will still be a place for designers and artists expert in the AI software. Similar to what has happened with professional photographers. Anyone can take a photo with their phones and then do basic editing. It is a true professional photographer/artist who knows composition, lighting and exceptional post photo editing. To me there is a clear difference in the quality, but I understand that many do not recognize the difference or chose to pay for the difference in quality. Many photographers have lost jobs and business over the recent years due to current technology.
Hi Bathilda so sorry for not replying before. Seems a lot of comments go into my RUclips inbox instead how odd, but yes i agree with you, there is a clear difference at this stage, however at the rate the technology is evolving (ive already got 2 major ‘life changing’ updates on this app since the video came out) i suspect it will get to a point where the machines will make it better than us - which is very upsetting and unsettling indeed. Thx again for your input on this one!
This is a very interesting video. Thank you so much for the thoughts and efforts put into it. This is the content that I love watching! Have a nice day!
Good morning Ric, this is totally valid, and not just for puzzles though, it’s happening everywhere. Thanks for the eye opener, this is very good and worth watching. I don’t know what to think of all this. I’ll get back to you later with a more educated response, TUVM
Good morning Lumpalumper! how are you mate! thanks for the awesome input it's been noted. no problem about processing the info, I'll be here anytime! thx again :-)
This was very interesting! I think that, if it's so easy to generate AI images, the puzzle companies will be even keener to stress that their designs are by professional artists to differentiate themselves from the AI products. The pictures your program generated are not something I would want to put together, however cheap they were. Maybe it's possible to give the program different/better instructions, but in that case the operator would have a skill, and it wouldn't be something that anyone could do. There is plenty of cheap rubbish around in all sorts of fields (clothes, dentistry etc) but still a lot of interest in the good stuff. Is a random AI-generated puzzle really going to compete seriously against an image by one of the popular artists? Wouldn't we rather have one lovely Chuck Pinson or Aimee Stewart puzzle than half a dozen AI-generated images "in the style of" those artists?
Hello Susan! Thanks for the excellent input, indeed you raised very good points here, it is possible that there may be a backlash on AI as opposed to just embracing it completely and wishing for the best with all of the consequences-some of which i suggested in this video, i hope you were able to watch most of the video not just the examples i gave, but indeed this is a great time for us to ask all of those questions and have a more informed decision when we buy new puzzles. I would much rather have my favourite artists puzzles than a generic picture. Ahah absolutely right about giving it better instructions- as i said in my discussion after 18mins, i only used it for like 24hrs before making this video so im totally scratching the surface here with my crude examples but from what i have seen already online, very little experience is needed to get better results. Thanks again for the great feedback, appreciated! 👏🙌
HAHAH this made me laugh so much! haha thx TWR! glad you are having fun with my channel! I'll try to keep that computer in one place when I jump on it again haha
Ric, thank you for this incredibly important video about AI and how this will change the puzzle industry. I haven't been paying enough attention to the implications of AI as I am still heavily involved in my career. I haven't been using my small free time to learn about AI. I've been reading books or working puzzles instead. As I listened to your video, I became more and more anxious and upset. I am attracted to certain puzzles because of the ARTISTS. Let's take one example of a 20-year-old Springbok puzzle I have titled "Landscape" by Paul Gauguin. I believe Gauguin painted the original in 1894 in France at a time when he had broken up with his wife, returned to France, and was in financial difficulty - - difficult times for him. His post-impressionist view of the French countryside came from a place of his deep emotion. So, fast forward to the AI revolution and a puzzle maker decides to improve this puzzle - add cheerful elements and make sharper outlines around the trees to eliminate some of the heavy strokes. Will the culturally illiterate think this new version is a work by Gauguin after it is bastardized? Artists and their artwork are precious resources we should carefully guard. Yes, I plan to hoard my human-created puzzles and I will go out and buy more. I just hope that when I pass away that someone after me will see fit to preserve them and enjoy them for what they are.
Hi Maggie, thank you so much for your opinion on this matter, it means a lot to me to hear other people’s experiences and perspectives on this. As you said the soul and importance of each painting or art work is part of our experience with the puzzle isnt it? Now that we can retouch it to our needs i dont know how much if that soul will be completely lost! Lets hope for the best at this stage but im already seeing a surge in ‘weirdly’ perfect puzzles on the shelves, have you too?
@@RicPuzzles Yes, I have seen "weirdly" perfect puzzles. I think I bought one over the internet without full awareness until it arrived on my doorstep. Now, that I am looking at it closely, something is just not right about it. This all reminds me of the movie "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1956 and 1978 versions). Only, in this case, AI is taking over artists' artwork in puzzles or replacing it entirely.
oh damn it, already experiencing AI puzzles (unintentionally)? how sneaky aren't they?! I really hope that from now on they mention on the packaging who made the graphics...fingers crossed! @@Maggie-tr2kd
I feel like a lot of puzzle appeal for a lot of us- is the artist!! Also SO many better brands now- people are for the most part not content to have a crap quality puzzle and such.
exactly! I always check who the artist is when buying the puzzles too, it's so important to know what lead to the puzzle artwork eh, but...what will happen next? omg...thx again Stacy!
hello Candlechatbliss! thank you for your input, same here i'm buying all the Wysocki's before they get AI modified haha thanks again for the excellent feedback!
Hi ArizonaJen, indeed, so scary isn't it? I hope we will be able to still have the options of human, AI artwork for our puzzles and that the companies make it clear on the packaging...how many people will lose their jobs eh?!
AI may not be such a big deal for jigsaw puzzles. For though it is a tool, as any tool it takes some experience and knowledge to use it and get good results. I may have a hammer and a nail, but I would not know how to build a house. There is also artistry in designing a good jigsaw puzzle cut. While you could use a cut for any picture, those would be less enjoyable to puzzle compared to a custom cut for a particular image. What I however can visualize is that AI may be used as a supplement to making a jigsaw puzzle image, but which would need manual "cleaning" by an artist afterwards.
thats is very commendable feedback lone wolf. indeed, it will all come down to the companies and the people involved in the production of puzzles to make right use of the tool. Im glad to hear you are positive about it. I tried to remain impartial and give the viewers the 2 sides of the coin and glad to hear your thoughts on it. with the rate that AI is evolving for example since the time I posted this video, a few weeks were required to fix the image, now 2 months later, the same tech is now fully automated with little to no margin for errors, it has evolved to a point where no fixing is needed. a little scary!
This problem exists already with coloring books. But AI has limitations. For one, the images need cleaning and contain a lot of errors (a 7-finger hand anyone?). But more importantly, it uses existing art, it is not creative. Result, we end up with a lot of coloring pages that all look alike. I think that using AI will be really tempting at first, but after a while, puzzlers will demand more variety in style and subjects. The used puzzle market is florishing right now, but I predict that if the market is innundated with AI-designed image puzzles, the puzzles with artist and photograph images will be worth them weight in gold. As modifying or expanding the images that already exist, as your suggest, it would be possible and cheap only if the puzzle manufacturer owns the copyright on the image. If not, they will have to negociate with the artist or photograph, especially in countries where the artist or photograph keeps their moral rights on the image. So once again, may seem really interesting for the manufacturer, but may cause a lot of problems that will be solve in court... Not sure it would be worth saving a few hundreds or thousands on the artist to then pay ten times more to your attorney ;)
Hello Marie! wow thank you so much for the great feedback and insights here, it's great to hear there is still hope for us all! (for the time being) hehe. it's fascinating to hear other people's experiences with AI and in other areas of the artwork, the information about copyright and image retouching was spot on- I would have thought of that at all! thank you so very much for the feedback and wishing you a great week!
Hi there, this is both scary and a good. I'm yet to experience AI puzzles and I'm not afraid to try, but...there's always a but...I feel sorry for the workforce too. Let's hope they find a solution. your videos are very good and useful. keep the good work.
greetings Mandalas! thanks again for your comment. very nice to hear your own opinion about this and that like me you also feel sorry for all the workforce. the best thing we can do now is go in with formed and educated opinion and see what happens! thx again!
An interesting video giving food for thought. Would I want an AI generated puzzle? Depends on how good the end product is. Donna Louise did a video about this subject three months ago - link here: ruclips.net/video/pi_5AYEmZ3g/видео.html She didn't appear to be overly impressed with the result. One could write to jigsaw companies and ask if AI will be a major part of their jigsaw production. If so are they going to put all their artists out of business. When you consider how varied images can be, could one person using a computer come up with enough images to keep a jigsaw company in profit? Only time will tell.
oh this is such a great input Puzzlepiece, thank you for that, and hey, same here, I think for the time being I'll run some due diligence before I buy new puzzles, just so that I can make educated decisions. This is so serious isn't it? and hey, omg I wasn't aware about @fortheloveofpuzzles video, oh...my bad, I should have done some more searching, I looked everywhere and dent see any other channel talking about it in depth but here she is! I'll drop by and watch it properly. thats a great point about the creative side indeed, it's hard to imagine someone coming up with too much variation, but hey the sky is the limit as they say isn't it! so let's sit back and see what happens next! thx again mate.
Hi Ric, very informative and also scary video. I’m sorry, I’m in my 70’s and don’t see an upside to this. If they had created technology to free up humans to use their time for creative endeavors, I’m onboard. But that’s not going to happen. I’m sure young people will be irresistibly drawn to this and I think to their detriment. What value will there be in anything if anyone can push a button and make art appear? I’m a creative and a pleasure I get is sharing my art with others who appreciate it. I won’t want to see art or listen to music that your machine generated, I have my own machine! Another thing, your example of Ravensburger charging more money - if anything, they may have to fold due the fact that everyone will be able to make their own puzzles for a lot cheaper. Sorry about the long rant, I could write a book, and just may. All by myself!
hello Terry, what a great input here, thank you so much! I hope you were able to watch the points raised here and all the seriousness of it all, I'm the same, I like the idea of having less work and more time for the good stuff however sadly this issue is indeed a one side thing which again will only create divisions in society, not just on puzzles but on every product that we buy, I'm sure the cuts will be inevitable as more companies become aware of how easy it is to replace humans with computer now that this technology is evolving by the hour -unlike anything we had experienced before 2023. Let's keep our old puzzles at hand! I for sure will not be giving away my puzzles anymore, hahah I used to finish them and give them away but I might reconsider my next steps! thank you again for taking the time to watch this video, hope it wasn't too much tech for you and hope I was able to create a good and healthy discussion on this! Wishing you an amazing week ahead Terry!
Amazing! I'm kind of on the fence about AI art. I think it's so cool, but on the flip side, I know how hard artists work! But I'm so fascinated with AI! This is a great, informative video, Ric! 🧩 You created some great images! 😅
Hey Judie! Thank you so much for your feedback, im exactly the same - pretty much all of my thumbs were ai generated so i have a bias too 😂 but yeah it’s such a controversial subject eh! I guess or hope it wont hurt the artwork too much but it’s not looking promising 😅 we can see that from the drama going in in Hollywood for example hehe but yeah im excited too as the possibilities are just infinite!!! Thx again for your feedback!
@RicPuzzles AI generated thumbnails! I need your Photoshop skills! 😅🤣 My thumbnails need work! Haha! I gotta play around with this stuff. It's funny because I have a bunch of art pictures stick in my brain, but I'm not an artist, not even a little bit. My stick figures need help! 🤣 In that respect, I feel like it's cheating to use AI because I'm not even a little skilled as an artist, but is it really cheating? It's my art thoughts, but my hands can't do what my brain wants. 🙃 Thoughts to ponder, eh? Lol
@@Addicted2Puzzles oh no! I have no experience at all, haha, but yes now you can literally just type in "make this or that" and it will be generated automatically in just seconds, as real as a photo, it's mind blowing!!! like in one of my videos I added a photo of me, and told the photoshop thingy to add boxed around me, it did in 8 seconds and no one can tell its fake, you may want to check out videos on RUclips on how to start if you want to get started, I think it's super valid! might as well make it a tool not an enemy of AI eh 🤣 same here, lots of ideas but little skills hahaha. absolutely, thoughts to ponder about for sure!
O-M-G Ric this is the kind of video that we need to be watching, instead of videos glamourising AI and making it sound like it’s all gonna be a sea of roses. Thank you for exploring all the sides to it and for making it clear for me to understand what it is and how it works. I have to admit that i loved the Scotty castle change it looks amazing. I have had only heard of chat GPT and i’m aware of how much it can help people to create things, essays, video scripts and so on but it never occurred to me that this technology was so advanced already and readily available like that and ready to be used to make puzzles. I am sure that very soon the puzzles will end up being cheaply massed-produced and will hit our shelves just like you suggested, i have no doubt, this is too tempting for the big guys not to try 😅 but at what cost? I will continue to buy old puzzles, a reason why i love your channel so much, and hopefully i won’t be buying the next gen of puzzles. It never even crossed my mind that this was happening and haven’t seen anything similar on youtube. Thank you 🙏 🧩
good day PuzzleMe :-) thanks for the input in this video, it has been greatly appreciated. the main goal of this video was indeed to create an open discussion and trying to be as unbiased as possible, even though it's difficult to do so, because i'm just human too and what we are dealing with seems to be much bigger than all of us and unavoidable. Thanks again for the great comment. Plz keep them coming, it's always greatly appreciated and noted. Thank you!
btw you may want to check a video by DonnaLouise in her channel because she solves an AI puzzle and is very honest about hawse feels about them, it's worth watching: ruclips.net/video/pi_5AYEmZ3g/видео.html
@@RicPuzzles Hi there Ric 🙂
I see a future when puzzle makers will have collections with what they’ll call, “artists’ originals”.
Thanks mate, likewise I would love to go back to the pre-social media era. Life was better. You too have a great weekend ahead.
yet another mind-blowing take, I couldn't agree more, Ric, my niece is here with us this week and we just watched your vid, she asked me to tell you she is having sleepless nights because she is a designer for a big brand and some of her workmates have already been made redundant in the past month alone due to the new techs, as you explained, even the cleaners now can do the designer work with 1 click. thanks for the great video.
Scary! 😢
@@puzzleme_0234 👍
👍🏻😁😁
The prices will never go down- I do think some puzzles are priced WAY too high as is- but I think because I don't do them more than once!
indeed Stacy!
Hi Ric,
For me, this is simply panic-inducing.
@@rebekahnerad4900 thx Rebekah, i shouldn’t have been so bold about solid one colour puzzles, thx for your input on gradients!
@@RicPuzzles you're entitled to your opinion lol 😂
Very eye opening video. I never thought I could learn a lot from puzzle videos but you prove it's wrong. Thank you for sharing with us.
Oh thats cool mate. We will eventually get a resolution i suppose, hope it all works well for humanity not just for a small group of people 😅
I enjoyed this very much, it’s very accurate and it shows what is happening now.
Wow thank you so much! So glad to hear that from another puzzler! 😁🤗 thx again!!
Hello again! You too Izza, wishing you an amazing day and week ahead. Thx again for checking this video.
Plz don’t break your computer Ric 😂 just kidding! This is very good, well done. Wish you created vids like this on your gaming channel too.
I do not like the AI puzzle images. I do prefer the artist rendered puzzles. So I am on a mission to buy them up before they disappear 😢
hello Candlechatbliss! thank you for your input, same here i'm buying all the Wysocki's before they get AI modified haha thanks again for the excellent feedback!
Unreal! The technology is mind-blowing. And, a bit frightening in some ways. What will art in general become?
Let's hope they find a solution. your videos are very good and useful. keep the good work.
greetings Mandalas! thanks again for your comment. very nice to hear your own opinion about this and that like me you also feel sorry for all the workforce. the best thing we can do now is go in with formed and educated opinion and see what happens! thx again!
@@RicPuzzles you're welcome bud, glad to support your channel!

Unfortunately advancement in technology always has positive and negative consequences. Hope the positives out weigh the negative.
Hi Linda! Exactly, lets hope for the best isnt it!? The hardest part is probably the adaptation-adjustment phase 😅 then things fall into place.

@@RicPuzzles thanks, I will watch it now.
