I was a man who drank heavy. Each day I put down a case of beer and drank a pint of hard liqour every night. At the time I was chewing 4 different kinds of Chewin' tabacco. One day this preaching I had never met came to my place and he asked if he could speak to me. I was drinking as usual but I invited him in. We sat awhile and had small talk and finally he told me why he had come to my house. He said he was building a church and that, he didn't a carpenter but just wanted to know what I would call it. I was surprised because I had no Christian upbringing. Anyway I told him "I don't know, maybe you should call it Faith Church!" He looked at me and said that sounds interesting..."I was thinking of calling it Faith Evengelicals Free Church." At the time I didn't care what he called it, but two things happened when he was about to leave. He told me he was glad he talked to me because that's what he was going to call the church, and as he said goodbye he brought a little black Bible out of he briefcase and gave it it to me. Imagine that? To me? I didn't know nothing about the Bible, so I took it out and threw it up into the back of my pickup and forgot about it. One day, about three months later I was agonizing over a construction job and knew I was going broke. My wife saw my worry and she brought me a Bible she read from and told me "Why don't you just Ask Jesus to help. I took her Bible and I threw it away from me saying I don't need no help. Well, one day I was watching my sons and my wife was gone to a friend's house. I put the little boys in their beds and I went and loaded up my shotgun. I stood in the hall and stuck the barrel in my mouth, and buddy I was ready to go when suddenly this overhead light come on and I hard my oldest little boy say "Daddy?" I quickly set the shotgun down and went and picked him up. The boy had climbed out of his bed and turned on the light. I didn,and't end my life that day as you can see. The next day I got in my truck and I went for a ride and after awhile I pulled over and got out of the truck and walked up into these thick woods and after a bit I sat down on a log. I began to cry and talk not knowing I had begun praying or anything. But I recall as I was setting there I went uncontrollably and said, "Jesus, God, if your really real will you help me stop drinking and show me who you are?" People, I can't tell you how I prayed except I went that prayer and spilled out every sin in me...and I accepted Jesus into my heart on pure faith. I had heard about this Savior named Jesus and I asked him to please come into my heart and save me. After awhile of thought I got up and dried my eyes and went back out of the woods to my truck. When I opened the door, lo and behold, out fell the little black Bible the preacher had given me. Maan it was just like Jesus was saying to me... "Here stupid, try it again!" And I did. I went home and found out who that preacher was and I went to see him and he led me to Jesus that very day. After that I read and I started to learn what Grace is. One day in the service this girl came out to sing and as I watched her and the lights came on, I recalled the day my little boy came into the hall after turning the light on saying "Daddy?" I don't know what I was thinking that day as the icy fingers of the devil was soothing my back, But I know now that that's who I should of been calling to in the darkness of that despair. My Father, God! Yes God is real and his Son's Gospel is true. I know cause he saved me. And that True. If you just call out to Jesus he will. Oh and by the way, the day I prayed with that preacher? I never touched or desired nor had another drink again. Nor did I desire any Chewin' tabbacco. This is a true story and I have stood for Jesus since 1984 and will forever.
So thankful Jesus is yours. What an awesome testimony of GOD's Grace. Thank you so very much for sharing.
