Female private detectives were actually pretty common in nineteenth century Britain, and detective agencies frequently included the fact that they employed women in their advertisements. As shocking as this may be, people in the nineteenth were actually aware that there were plenty of social settings where a woman could go unremarked upon much more easily than a man, and that there were plenty of people who might much more willingly confide in a woman than in a man.
Yea the media today really loves to push the sexism in the old days narrative to the extreme.

Actually, most of the women worked as secretarial staff in those days and weren’t actually detectives themselves, though I’m sure there were a few.
@@pauliedoodle1939 I have no idea how many women worked as secretaries at that time, but generally that was not a women's profession in that period. There were, however, plenty of female private detectives: www.historyextra.com/period/victorian/female-detectives-career-womens-history/.
This feels like a victorian "Miss Fisher." I'll definitely be watching.
I've been needing a good detective show since Ms. Fisher went off air. This show is so good. You'll be hooked from episode 1.
She's a lot more subtle than Miss Fisher but she gets the job done.

@@AstarionWifey Miss Fisher is a big personality. Miss Scarlet is quieter and her methods of getting information are usually a little less extreme. Usually.

I love mysteries that take place in this era.
Check out a movie from this year called "Enola Holmes" and "Murdoch Mysteries " from 2008+ (series), Miss Fishers murder mysteries are also good but this is set in the 1920s
The "Alienist" if you haven't seen it. Incredible!
you must read, if you have not already, the Anne Perry books set in Victorian era.
Check out The Mrs Bradley Mysteries (there is only 5 episodes, i was mad when i learnt theres 66 books in the set) and Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries, both are set in the 1920s but totally worth it.

I just finished watching. It is soooooo good. The lead pair have excellent chemistry. And Duke has an uncanny resemblance with Hugh Jackman as Logan!... Highly recommended for everyone!!

This trailer looks like a Hollywood Sherlock Holmes imitation with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Kate Phillips is such a firecracker actress and stands out in all her supporting roles. Nice to see her star in this!

Great show. I like the stories and how she went about solving them. The cinematography was outstanding. I like how her dress hugs her body. It not on par with Sherlock but hopefully season 2 ups the ante.

RIght and I'm a romance reader and was looking forward to Bridgeton.... it was ok for a bridge gap (see what I did there) .. but this THIS IS BRILLIANT.... no sex... just perfect chemistry
I just watched the first episode and I was hooked. I skipped Bridgerton even though I read almost all the books because of the problems with the Duke and I but I digress. I really like Eliza and William's chemistry. I also think she has great chemistry with Moses as well. I like their interaction from the first to the second episode. I definitely recommend it.

It is a UK new series & played there over the late spring/summer. It is a really fun & interesting show. The leads are perfectly picked for those parts & there are some fun mysteries along the way. You gotta watch it.
Same, hope season 2 comes out sometime. I hate how they tease us with a new series then it never comes back.
@@andreap9869 my guess is that if it does well on PBS then we'll be seeing a second series (season). The ending certainly left it open for some new shenanigans. I really loved this show & would love to see several years worth.

Could y’all bring Sanditon back to honor Jane Austen’s legacy? An original, beautiful show with talented actors that have more chemistry than anything I’ve seen. Not a copy of Sherlock.
There's not going to be a season 2. It ended the way the scripwriter intrnded, no matter how many people hated it.
Sanditon wasn’t that great. I had high hopes, but it didn’t seem very Jane Austen like probably because they had to take liberties with it.

Haha im in Oz... and didn't see it...but then again I never watch free to air...which was good cuz I didn't have to wait week to week to watch it... got to do it over a weekend.
In our exclusive interview on 31 January 2020, Rachael New stated that she is currently working on scripts for season 2. It was later confirmed by Stuart Martin in an interview with The Book of Man that they were “due to do a second series of Miss Scarlet and The Duke in September [2020] in Dublin”.
Which most likely means another 9+ months before we see it aired, ugh. Loved this series

I adore Miss Fisher! I also adore chocolate cake. That won’t stop me from adoring red velvet cake.. and this new show, too (hopefully). 🙂 I’ll take dramatically similar as long as it’s still enjoyable.
