    Sander was the reason I became a keeper at 10 years old. I was devastated when he was, as the paper said "Axed". I never took to Dudek, though I now admire him, but my biggest goalkeeping hero after Sander was Carlo Cudicini. I was a Liverpool diehard who loved Cudicini...go figure eh?

    Liked Sander he was good but dudek was better and I was saddened when he left Reina was better again I couldn't believe the overall quality of Reina immense at his peak. Greatest penalties keeper ever.

    Dudek left Liverpool fc the same way due to mistakes, Kirkland was a total sick note. Sanders distribution with his hands and feet was phenomenal, great shot stopper and had angry temperament which is good with goalkeepers. he wasnt treated very well hence liverpool fc apologising

      Dudek only made about 4 in the 4 and a half years he was Liverpool number 1 before Reina came in, and they were all in the same season. Agree Sander on reflection was maybe harshly treated, but Dudek didn't make that many mistakes.

    Have to agree it was poorly handled. But then many times at many clubs, it's the same story. He was a good pro and a decent keeper. He deserved more honesty, but football and for that matter, most commercial outfits aren't known for honesty.

  • @A-R-17
    @A-R-17 2 года назад +1

    Fair enough if Liverpool wanted to bring in 2 new goalkeepers, that's part of the game and part of the business.
    But to not even tell him that they were going to do this and therefore not allowing him to move before the transfer window was out is simply out of order. No ifs no buts, he didn't deserve that.

    I'm a staunch Liverpool fan, and Sander bloody good keeper who was treated appallingly. I never bought into the whole Houllier thing. A good coach? Absolutely, a good man manager? Evidently not. He had a sense of his own self importance and an ego to match (this was no more evident than after he had his heart surgery, he obviously had nearly a season off to recover and recuperate, during which time Phil Thompson took over and we were absolutely flying, top of league, playing a slightly different style, and think we lost a couple of games, Houlier was advised to stay away for the last few months of the season, but his ego couldn't handle how well we were doing without him, He came back and it all went tits up, we would've won the league if he'd stayed away and i suspect that those upstairs new that). thaHe has a track record of lying to his players and blaming everybody else.

    Sad thing is all goalkeepers make mistakes from time to time. I think they could have handled it better, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. Plenty of respect for Sander for the positive contributions he made to Liverpool while he was there. It feels like the scrutiny on big games would be much worse - this is why I had sympathy for Karius - he did fine apart from the blip against Madrid, but every time he made a goalkeeping error, other Liverpool fans just moan and say he wasn't good enough. End of the day players move on.

    Westerveld was such an underrated goalkeeper. Better than most of the observers thought he was. As for Houiller, that's just another episode showing how classless he is as a human being. Ask any French fan, you'd be surprised about the amount of people that hate him.

    What he's gotta understand is that at that time man u fergie ruled, parry was pro united all the time he dismantled the team that won 5 trophies in 12 months and after that it was time to get back to mediocrity and let man u and arsenal get back to dominating the league. All said and done they are 3 of the 5 founding members of the Premier league they will always watch each others back. But then Chelsea and man City Gate crashed there party so now its big 6 excluding Everton.

    the reality is your a player, he is the manager! This is the nature of football, maybe he was less than upfront with you because he picked up on your dominate personality which is shining through in this interview, you can't control the situation, he decides who he wants in his team, he is the manager not you...
