You either own/co-own or your an angler. I mean an owner/co owner, whatever he is, should not be fishing for his own money or any part of his own money. One thing I’d like to know is when did any tournament organization start declaring foul hooked fish LEGAL? I know it used to not be that way even on treble hooks. Is breaking rules cheating? I say yes. But the penalties are different for breaking the same rule. It should be the same penalty for ALL anglers. Not just pick and choose who gets more and who gets less punishment. Just my opinion. Good video Randy.

    I think the concept of MLF was the best thing that could happen to the sport. That being said, the way it has been ran evidently needs improvement! If fishing for bedding fish, or pulling them from deepwater and putting them in a live well and riding them around most the day continues, it won't end well, for the fish or the sport! A lot of the MLF haters, are people who are still mad for most all the pros leaving BASS to begin with. I don't know their reasoning for leaving...but there was obviously reason!

  • @forrhs8430

    When MLF first started, they had like four toiurnaments, with each having the exciting sudden death round. None of that exists today. The BPT was 'supposed' to be influenced by angler majority decisions, but that too seems to have gone by the wayside. I understand it's a business, but viewership of fans and sponsors' support drives the BPT. I think the aspect of having practice days speaks against what MLF first started with, a location where the water body is kept secret until the day the tournament starts. Part of the appeal was seeing how anglers disected the lake/river on the spot. Every fish counts, after having days of practice, has been watered down, and the loss of significant anglers who were well recognized doesn't help. Even I have lost my appeal of MLF BPT.

    • @b.s.fishing5902
      @b.s.fishing5902 Месяц назад +2

      I think you are onto something with this. The best part about the MLF Cups was that the anglers had no idea what lake they were fishing, a lot like the original Classic. Seeing them try to break down a lake as quickly as possible was always really cool to watch. But I think what made it a success and so popular was that it was heavily edited to maximize the fish catches from everyone and the editing allowed them to show/build a lot of the anglers personalities. With live fishing, be it BPT or BASS, you will struggle to get the same kind of engagement because there is just soo much dead air regardless of how they are fishing. If they had stuck with the no practice rules like the Cups it would make it more interesting, but I doubt we see that kind of change coming from Boyd

MLF's plan in 2018 with the mass exodus from Bassmaster and was timed when new management was just taking over at Bass to put Bass out of business. When that didn't happen, MLF has been trying every trick in the book to survive, including screwing their anglers. I think the Pros had the right idea when a bunch of them created the Professional Anglers Association (PAA) back around 2010-13 time frame. Their tournaments were a Pro AM format and you had BASS and FLW Tour Pros, plus guys that fished the BASS Opens and FLW Everstart tournaments fishing them. It was pretty cool seeing so many of the FLW and BASS Pros competing. I think they even had some fisherman who were guides fishing the tournaments. If I remember right, it was run as a non profit, but I'm not sure about this now. Anyway, a Buddy of mine and I fished several of them as non boaters on the Tennessee River and they seemed to be well run and the payout wasn't bad for just starting out. Then Major League Fishing showed up and the PAA seemed to disappear. Maybe someone like a Randy Blauket should try to bring the PAA back?

  • @user-vk9tf3yr3o
    @user-vk9tf3yr3o Месяц назад +1

    My opinion, which comes from 35+ years of fishing lots of circuits. 1st and foremost, I do not believe the Top Prize should soooo much larger then 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. The folks who finished 2nd, 3rd, etc, fished just as hard, maybe even harder, spent a chunk of money to compete and yet, they get a pittance of a check. Now, I believe First Place should receive more money, but $50K for aa win v/s $10k or so for 2nd?? or $5k for a Win versus 2nd, 3rd, etc. only paying $1,500.00, $800.00, etc. or so. Furthermore, this equates to payback further down the line being Minimal and in some cases, not even covering your entry fee. I have no issue with any person or organization making money. Just spread the payback out more evenly down the line. One other comment, the Federation use to be a great place to hone your skills against some really good local sticks, but the payout, at least where I competed was terrible!!! The Federation scraped off waaaay tooo much money to send to the Regional and State Tourneys. This is why that split occurred many years ago and the promised payout never got better! There are lots of folks who just want to fish local and with or through the Federation and that is Great, but you must know going in, the payback will barely cover your boat gas.
    The big Circuits usually get a contract with the City / County they plan to host in and this money does not go to the Anglers. However, the Entry $ the Anglers pay should be used to pay 100% back to the anglers. These big Circuits should stop scraping $ from each Local tourney to sending it to the next level(s). There are lots of ways this could be done better.
    One last Food for Thought comment....boat costs have spiraled out of control. The average fisherman today, can not pay $75k for a boat, much less finance it at 8% or more, then attempt to compete, even on a local level without going broke!!!!

    I think Boyd knew from the beginning that in order for the BPT to succeed B.A.S.S. had to go. That whole push of drawing anglers away from BASS and promising the world to them was that attempt. Not to mention BPT tried strong arming the sponsorships to try and pull more money away from BASS. BPT had the better content and was on the rise and BASS was wounded and faltering. It might have worked if the pandemic hadn't hit but that really changed and realigned the sponsorship dollars and the number of people consuming content from both leagues.. For a short period there were enough people participating and watching the content from both leagues that the BPT just couldn't draw enough support away from BASS. They also screwed the pooch by changing the format mid stream which only served to confuse and alienate viewers and anglers alike followed by the investment in to the FLW which drained away a substantial amount of operating capital. Then as the pandemic subsided the viewership decreased and tightened up the sponsorship dollars available. Boyd failed and now is trying to salvage what's left.
    The BPT is horribly mismanaged and really should go back to the original programmed and edited product but expanded. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it. They could do so much more with that format and it would be social media friendly. You could have the the MLF channel with individual angler content, seminars, tournament coverage broken down to easy to watch 2 hour blocks. They could create an entire ecosystem like a you tube type platform designed to not only make the league money but give the anglers the media exposure that they were promised when this first started. So many possibilities. On the flip side of that though I still believe there are way too many tournaments in general buts that just me.

I think that’s just as wrong as thinking that pro golfers are the real customers of the PGA tour or that football players are the real customers of the NFL. I also believe it’s naïve to think that fisherman ganging up insisting their ideas be heard and they vote on them would resolve issues and all would be pleased. That would probably work about as well as it does in government.

    In the best interest of tournament fishing, there should only be one organization with two feeders, aka double A, triple A, and then the Majors. If this were the model, the organization would be profitable, and the Anglers prize money would increase. In order for there to be no entry fee in that upper league tournament fishing is going to need way more sponsors from not in the fishing industry and tight as the economy is, I just don't see that ever happening again.

    Tournaments no longer appeal to bass fishermen. Watching guys in $100k boats, spotlighting bass, then pimping baits like soccer moms pimp Rodan and Fields. So many times I see an angler telling his fans to go out and buy these new baits bc they won him money in the last tournament when he didn’t even catch the majority of fish on it.
    Then you throw in the other lying and scandals…it’s just a train wreck now.

    Northern europe here. I might have a couple of cents in my pocket. first of all I`d like to say that my knowledge runs skin deep, BUT.. It seems to me a lot of the sports leagues over in the states controls the participants to a large degree..either they are the defacto employer or at the very least control the particiants with contracts that go beyond the enforcing of the rules. I think that is a bad idea. The league should set the rules and collect any fees it needs to operate, but not police the participants meanings etc.

    FFS has ruined both MLF and Bassmaster. I have no interest in watching someone else watch a screen and fish. Over the decades, I've enjoyed watching Anglers make decisions on weather, water conditions, etc. but have turned it off if I see more than 50% of footage watching someone's backside. WAKE UP ... listen to the fans!
    As for MLF, again leadership ... listen to your pros and your fans! Instead, they've chased profit over the interest of fans and it is slowly spiraling down the toilet hole. I still love every fish counts format and think it does better for the fishery (like kayak fishing tournaments) than keeping 5 fish and weighing them in half dead for the few fans that turn up. Slight rudder corrections are always needed but drastic rudder swings will only push the Pros away.

We need a super bowl of those two organizations duking it out.

    Tournament organizations are businesses. The tournament organizations have employees to pay, vehicles to buy, trailers and support equipment to purchase and maintain. The tournament organization have print and internet media they provide. I think it is absolutely ridiculous to believe any tournament organization should be expected to work for “FREE” and return all forms of earned income back to all the participants.
    Do you work for free? How do get money to buy your truck, boat and electronics? How do you pay for your home? How do you pay for health insurance for your family? How do you pay for the food you purchase at the grocery store? You go to work.
    Next time you’re at a tournament, look at all the support personnel who “make” the tournament happen for your enjoyment. These nice folks don’t work for free.

    • @cjm3801
      @cjm3801 Месяц назад +1

      Why not pay back what comes in via entry fees though and let the tournament organization be funded by the industry that it helps to promote though? MLF already has brand sponsors, so it would make sense that brand sponsors support the organization which supports growth and promotion of the industry and the anglers are supporting each other via 100% payouts.
      Maybe I’m not thinking it through clearly enough, but it feels like the organizations are double dipping at the expense of the stated mission of industry growth.

    Randy, you know I am a fan. Let me tell you I like Dustin Connell, Mark Daniels Jr. Adrian Avena and Jacob Wheeler. They room together on tour and make a lot of videos. That being said, they all favor FFS. This is where it gets boring. I watch all their backs and listen to them talk while looking into their electronics. I'm sorry. it is boring. Their travel logs are much more entertaining. They admit that they have to have FFS to make any money. That is sad because I like them. They all have their families to support. Dustin Connell just had their first BABY. He says FFS is a must for him to win. He fishes off shore because of FFS. I am sorry, but that ain't right. I would sadly say that without FFS, these 4 guys would not be in the top 20 of MLF. Man I hate saying that but it s true. I am against FFS not because I don't have it on my Ranger but I don't believe it is good for the sport. Oh my wife told me if I wanted it, go ahead and get it. No, I told her. I catch just as many bass without that stuff. Sure, I am not a PRO. I don't even fish tournaments. I don't think it is fair to the fish.
