His picking technique is just incredible. How does he get that fast using just his wrist? Then you look at players like Zakk Wylde whose right arm moves all over the show. DAMN

"In tonal music, a pedal point (also pedal tone, pedal note, organ point, or pedal) is a sustained tone, typically in the bass, during which at least one foreign, i.e., dissonant harmony is sounded in the other parts."

@treblemid Hi there, thanks for the quesion, if your referring to what looks like a Capo on the guitar in this video it isnt any type of Capo, its just a regular hair tie which stops unwanted ring outs of strings. We use one on the shredding here so you guys can hear all the notes for educational purposes. Andy can play without it - he just prefers to give you guys the best chance at hearing the notes his shredding. Hope that helps - if Andy uses a capo on any tracks will ask him which he uses.

Music is not a sport or a competition - you can, therefore, not cheat.
And for the record, Greg Howe is one of the guys who popularised this trick (but everyone else has done it in the studio for years)

Index finger placement, lick memorization, maximum space utilization, and hands like frigid spiders. Every last one of these Lick Library vids is some note pushing jive, but I'm hypnotized by sheer note count nonetheless.

Yngwies playing makes sense and is not all showing off a lot of his playing is very melodic an he also plays blues extremely well. a lot of people make comments like yours about Yngwie an it is usually made because his technique is superb an probable the best vibrato of an rock player and people who wish they ha technique like that don't an are jealous of it so make comments to knock Yngwie because secretly they wish they could have technique like his but on't want to put the work he put in

I like what you did there. Really sounds like some of Malmsteens' playing. Dont let the haters get to you. Yes Malmsteen is phrygian dominant and uses other types of scales as well but think about it though. Is he phrygian dominant because thats what he is most comfortable with? Guitar is all about preference and being comfortable with what you play and who cares what scale Yngwie plays. Its his music so if someone else does it different then so what.

@LHracing34 The reason, without a doubt, that he's using the headband here is for tightness, as it is a recording that he wants to be perfect. In the studio, it's pretty common. You know

@SeanTheReptileGuru yes and i understood you knew that, I gave you the info to the vid as he does point out that as long as its not so far past the 5/6 fret it doesnt effect his playing (1.48) allowing him to play open strings.
Guess it depends on how tight the scrunchie is...
hope that helps? Send us an email on here if you have any more queries.

@HyperfastMalmsteen Yup, it's true that the difference between 22 frets and 24 is little, because you can stretch the 22nd up a step or higher, but I've always prefered 24 fret necks for those twelve extra notes they give. Plus the fact that it just feels right when you're not cutting off part of the second octave and feeling like you want more space at the top of that strat's neck, no matter how sweet strats are. Now, I have some, but I prefer Schecter, PRS and Ibanez aside from custom Strats.

A question to all the skilled guitarists out there: Is it REALLY necessary to learn all that theory like the whole damn fretboard, every single major and minor scale etc?
How did you manage to become good guitar players? Was there any order like "First, I'm going to learn this, than that..."?
    Thanks in advance.
