Establishing term limits for SCOTUS justices wouldn't necessarily stop the possibility of corruption or political idealogues/influence affecting their philosophies revolving certain cases or issues, it would just limit any potential corruption to a specific set amount of time, not lifetime appointments. It might limit it to some people extent or make it more manageable, but just like enacting term limits with state governors, senators, or Congressmen, it wouldn't stop certain justices from being pliable to outside corporate/fringe NGO groups providing gifts, speaking fees for discussions, other amenities to tempt and lure them. Even if reformed SCOTUS justices terms to 10-15 years, that's still a long time to serve as one of the highest judicial officers in this country and far more then enough time for some to be corrupted.

I think the problem lies in the evidentiary cover it gives to a criminally minded President. Essentially, he’d be able to block evidence against him, from people in his administration, from ever being admissible in court, even if the crime, itself, was completely outside of his presidential duties.
The Supreme Court is the third branch of power. The legislation cannot impose any reform on the judicial branch. It would take a constitutional amendment to do that, which would be extremely difficult to do.

Nobody should be above the law. That said, immunity from prosecution for crimes has been a core part of plea deals offered and accepted in the courts for a very, very long time. I mention it because this immunity thing started somewhere.

Another point on these lines that came to my mind during the lead up to this heinous ruling and has a remote connection to the concept of presidential immunity is the congressional declaration (more recent than long term past) that presidents cannon be sued for their actions as president. While this may seem to be above the law as well, I don't believe it does given the gross potential for politically or otherwise motivated suits to be launched upon a former president. While it does empower presidents to act officially without fear of civil redress directly, it should be remembered that other persons and agencies involved with carrying out such actions would not be granted such immunity. In this manner, as well as general political accountability from the public, would be very sobering to any president considering actions of this nature. Conversely a president should not be prohibited from controversial official actions because people or companies may feel aggrieved by such actions. There is too much grey area and too much opportunity to overwhelm the proper pace of justice and the operation of government.

Adding four more justices seems like an excellent solution. Mitch McConnell, in his cynical stacking the court, has made this the next necessary step. I think the problem lies in the evidentiary cover it gives to a criminally minded President. Essentially, he’d be able to block evidence against him, from people in his administration, from ever being admissible in court, even if the crime, itself, was completely outside of his presidential duties.

Nobody should be above the law. That said, immunity from prosecution for crimes has been a core part of plea deals offered and accepted in the courts for a very, very long time. I mention it because this immunity thing started somewhere.

Another point on these lines that came to my mind during the lead up to this heinous ruling and has a remote connection to the concept of presidential immunity is the congressional declaration (more recent than long term past) that presidents cannon be sued for their actions as president.
While this may seem to be above the law as well, I don't believe it does given the gross potential for politically or otherwise motivated suits to be launched upon a former president. While it does empower presidents to act officially without fear of civil redress directly, it should be remembered that other persons and agencies involved with carrying out such actions would not be granted such immunity. In this manner, as well as general political accountability from the public, would be very sobering to any president considering actions of this nature. Conversely a president should not be prohibited from controversial official actions because people or companies may feel aggrieved by such actions. There is too much grey area and too much opportunity to overwhelm the proper pace of justice and the operation of government.

Not only did the Supreme Court gift Trump immunity, but per their ruling, they gave the same to all presidents to follow after him. This seems like a solid case of "be careful what you wish for", as Trump could one day be the subject of another President's ire and "immunity" from prosecution.
