- When you think about South LA, opportunities in robotics might not be the first thing that comes to mind. But one organization is committed to changing just that.
For over three years, South LA Robotics has worked to close the technology gap for students in South Los Angeles by providing accessible robotic and coding courses in community centers and spaces across Los Angeles. The organization is pushing towards a world where any students who wants to learn about robotics should be able to do so in their own community.
South LA Robotics has been able to extend its reach by partnering with two brand new community centers in South LA - The SoLA Teen Tech Center and the Best Buy Teen Tech Center.

I got to meet Ms. Lashley when she was a teacher/S.T.E.A.M. Educator at my kids Elementary School. SOLAR completely changed our life. My son was one of fortunate students to travel to China, twice yall'! This video makes me emotional because you have to know Ms. Lashley to understand her dedication. (I'm saying she goes 200%). She has the real value of world learning. She's an awesome parent, friend and most of all an AWESOME educator. These kids come from all aspects of life, you name it! Her environment is one you can trust and rely on. Whether you are in orientation, an Expo exhibit or in class she has the sweetest, frame of mind I could think of. Have your kids sign up to a class. I remember when they(South LA Robotics) came to their first vex IQ Robotics competition I was hosting at El Camino college in February 2020.
I was there too, we had banners rooting them on. They might have not placed but their Cheer Team was there and on fire 🔥! That's all that matters having someone rooting for YOU no matter what!
Love that my son can participate in robotics away from school and so close to home.
