We have this problem with our windows and unfortunately we papered and decorated up to the plastic trims soon after they were done. Of course they used plastic trim to cover up their handy work and to rip off and do properly not would mean needing to re paper and paint most of the room. Got to love the state of tradesmen in the UK!
I reckon the majority of windows installers in the UK would do what was done in this video. I am having my windows replaced. Every single one of the guys who came to quote me looked at me like I’d spoken in Swahili when I mentioned that I want expanding foam tape rather than foam, would be adding airtightness tape (Tescon) around the perimeter and insulating the reveals on top. 100% if they could they would get away with the absolute minimum and cover up whatever they can with trims, then they would. So completely disappointing.
I'm renovating my old house and have found this is the general attitude amongst general builders as well when requesting what is done in this video.... Builders tell you it's a waste of time, cut corners, lie to you, use the wrong thickness insulation, it's exhausting! There is a serious skills gap in this country when it comes to insulation.
We’ve got a new build and are having issues with mould around the windows, particularly in the bedroom for some reason despite trying to get the heating on and opening the window, wondering if this could be the cause, do you know if this is something that could be covered by a new build ‘warranty’?
I’m filling mine of now because I’ve had a draft for ages in my main bedroom and can’t find it,,what’s best to seal it with,,decorators caulk or silicone
My exact issue, my exact thoughts confirmed on repair. Much obliged! 👌

Useful video. Pretty much confirms what i suspected I have in one of my rooms. Cheers.

Thanks man. How do you connect the reveal insulation to the wall insulation? Join it up?
Brilliant 👍🏼

Would be good to see the work in action.

PU foam, trim back then caulk
What’s pu pal
@@explorewithant PU: Polyurethane
Was it foamed and sealed from the outside?
These gaps are so common, don't understand why the windows aren't sealed at point of installation.
Thanks for watching the channel Paula your right its bad workmanship the windows should be properly sealed when fitted
@@SDRobertsPlasteringmost windows have air vents put in. There was no air vent in that window.
@@jonmould2946Do air (trickle) vents negate this issue?
My windows are the same, very drafty too
Good job, but overinsulating old houses does cause the dreaded condensation, I did all this and more and ended up having to fit a piv unit
