The thing about Rise Against is they want to hit you hard emotionally and make you think and question and not just accept things as they are.
This one addresses the problem of teen suicide, especially amongst gay teens who, instead of love and caring, are met with such strong negative feelings and are constantly told by classmates, parents, religion and large parts of society that there's something wrong with them.
The song is an attempt to not only connect with these people, relate to them and show them they're not alone, they're accepted and loved and to keep living, but also to let people know this is unacceptable and demand better from society.

Rise against is a band full of heavy weighted songs. The running theme I find in their music is Truth. All their songs are direct questions to hard subjects in the world, this one about gay suicide. I really want to hear your impressions of their song Hero of War. Its one of the few songs out there that actually got tears out of me on my first listen.

I remember being a child, getting kicked out of sunday school for asking too many questions. I was maybe 8 or 9, and asked my mom "If we were made by God, how is it my fault that i think of these questions? Isn't that the point?" She had no answer for me, and that was probably the best answer she could honestly give.

The names listed are of gay teens who committed suicide because of bullying. They all committed suicide in the same month, which is why the song is often also labeled (September's Children). The video actually shows gay teens who considered it and then shows that their life got better eventually.

You didn’t address the main reason people would want a pastor to react to this song.
Acknowledge the fact that ALOT of the heart ache and suicide that surrounds homosexuality is due to the church’s effect on society.
You didn’t address sexuality being a sin.
You didn’t even discuss suicide as a sin.
There is a responsibility there, and you deliberately avoided it.

This song is very emotional & very powerful. The reason in the song it says "what god would damn the heart? What god drove us apart? What god could?" Is because one year in September (hence the name September's Children) there was a huge spike in teen suicide just because they were gay "from the children shamed for those they chose to kiss". These were kids, innocent children who did nothing wrong but follow their heart & seek happiness & love in the way that was best suited to them. Every other sin I can understand cause you can make the choice to do it or not, you can choose to steal or lie or kill, but you can't choose who you love because that's not a matter of the mind, its a matter of the heart. Now, I'm not a Christian anymore, but I do know it does say in the bible "love thy neighbor". Not thy Christian neighbor or thy white neighbor or thy straight neighbor, but just thy neighbor. Love is love, & these children didn't deserve their early passing.
P.S. sorry if I sounded fumed about this, I can get a little worked up when addressing kids who were bullied just for being themselves. No child deserves to feel unloved & unwanted

Fractal Nightmares A good song from a hip hop artist that can be dissected and is pretty deep would be Water Tower by Aesop Rock. Water Tower is kind of existentialist and does talk a bit on the topic of suicide and mental illness but from a neutral point of view. Also, Holy Smokes is about religion from his perspective (a nonbeliever) but that song is pretty much a bomb dropped on religion. He pulls no punches and I don't know if the pastor could take it.

It’s not so much questioning god, but his followers. People that use god as a means to segregate people, to put them down, shame them. To often members of the church alienate instead of extending love like they should. The challenge about “what god” is that his fan club tends to make people feel like outsiders.

Hello Pastor. I was raised Christian, and early on in life began having an interest in all sorts of forms of religion and spirituality. But to be honest, in the sense that I thought it was all nonsense and fairy tales. At this point in my life at the age of 29, I'm pretty happy being agnostic. Comfortable knowing that we all die, and that we will never know whether god exists and in what form. I just live by the Golden Rule. Just treat others as you wish to be treated. Whatever happens after you die, we will all experience. I appreciate your open mindedness. Too many people of all sorts of faiths are unwilling to listen to each other, or try to understand each other.

I was a Christian, until I researched cults and the BITE model (and did some self examination with my Christian religion). I became agnostic when realizing yes there is a difference between believing and knowing (and I admitted I wanted to know instead of believe, but that won't happen until death). The Irony is my church would agree with the whole "find out whether this is true. Don't just blindly follow the leaders, and don't read a book that red forces the idea in question" (the simplest form of brain washing is when you tell yourself something until you believe it). Ironically they saw this humble honest doubt as weak faith, and an attack, so I told them I was done.

Good morning pastor Andy and bigkatTV. Just got home from work and decided to relax and watch your interpretation of this gorgeous song.
Music like this helped me get through my dark times in my youth, I won’t act like I don’t have them anymore, but this and a few other songs were there for me when no one else would.
This song is very powerful, the meaning behind it although plainly obvious, often left me wondering what I was really leaving behind if I ever gave in to my dark thoughts, luckily I pulled through and grew even stronger from it.
Some people aren’t as fortunate, and I try to be there for anyone that ever feels the same way.
Well, I’d like to recommend another song that was there for me, it’s called Satellite by Rise against.
Another deep hitting one is easier to run by linkin Park.
Both although severely different, carry the same hope a desperate soul for search for.

The song is about bullying and young folks who want to be themselves but are perceived differently... and I really feel you missed that and the hope that the song has for young people just trying to make it through a day in middle school or high school. Their parents are either tied up in their own daily responsibilities, troubles, or worse their own priorities and don't listen or care to involve themselves in their children.
Many kids look to these songs and artists to connect to. Rise Against is an example of a good message in a world that kids can see, sometimes more so than adults, a world that has good but only in pockets. So I applaud the bands message and their drive to take on other real issues like veterans lives and people going through loss from natural disasters, and others.
For you to have a channel showcasing a song with a great message you truly failed to 1) acknowledge the purpose of the song 2) relate to the intended audience of the song or even acknowledging the message or truth that gender choice, sexuality choice, identity choice is a subject at the heart of feeling different and leading to such terrible consequences 3) any kind of relatable scripture insight or inspiration on this issue. 4) Any kind of actual & relative disection of the lyrics to directly relate to biblical scripture references or understandings.

Children are children and while I believe that we can no more control our sexual identity or gender preference anymore than we can control how tall we'll grow, there is something to be said about the households where children are brought up in. If a child is brought up in a household that fosters openness of yourself and acceptance of others, chances are that child will be far different from that of a child who grows up in a troubled household or even a household that follows a strict doctrine that emphasizes discrimination and distrust of people who are different.
But children can't pick where they grow up. But as we grow, mature, and leave our childhood lives behind those same kids that were those bullies may find themselves one day looking back and realizing how horrible they were to others and feel regret over the anguish they caused. It's important that these recovering-bullies be accepted and forgiven, and understand that as a child they had been misled and were taught wrong. Don't get what I'm saying confused; there are some adults out there whom are just toxic and bad to their very core, just a bad person, and the best thing to do with a person like that is to cut them out of your life.

I grew up being "forced" though that's for lack of a better word at the moment, into my local church and when I questioned things it always turned into conflict and even just mentioning that I questioned things, lead to conflict with a great number of people. I don't advise seeking out Christians(Or any other religion for that matter.) to find friends or whatever to take you into a "good/better" direction. I recommend just looking for caring and kind people. Look to people involved in nature and trying to make this world a better place. And if they turn out to be religious cool, but religion doesn't just make someone good. That's all I'm trying to say.

the underlying theme i hear from all your comments is what you lead off with....."go with Christ, go with Christ"
It still amazes me that in this day in age, with all of our scientific advances and things we've actually PROVEN about the earth and universe that people still need to hold on to this outdated, archaic belief system. The universe is random people, sometimes things happen and while there's a LOGICAL reason for everything that does happen, if we can't explain it right away the "god" solution is no solution at all! The reason for these poor young people taking their own lives is very simple......bullying, and mental heath issues. Let's address that instead of with "Jesus"

It would really help for you guys to watch the videos. It will explain a lot. Leave less to interpretation. Redo the wrong side of heaven video so you actually know what you're talking about. The react videos are good. But adding the videos would help immensely.

i dont think its really questioning "god" but questioning the rules people have made around the idea of what they think "god" wants.
i believe there may be a god, but i dont believe he cares about anything that happens, if there is a heaven i believe everyone would be going, not just the believers, and also not just the good people.

This song is amazing and it’s true! They’re dying because people use the Bible to justify their hate! The lyric “red flames.” It’s “red flags raised.” Judgement is something you don’t want for who you are and stand for, then don’t teach that to your flock.
People justify their prejudices by saying the Bible says. It’s crap. Enough is enough. No kid should be shunned, be made to feel ashamed for who they are or killed by someone or by committing suicide because someone disagrees with their life. Religion has done great evils in this world all in the name of god. It’s been twisted to fit agendas that are cruel, manipulative and selfish. That’s why I no longer believe in nothing.

What does this have to do with this song like this is about suicidal not politics and most punk bands are anti establishment they aren't on either sides some may have some ideals from each side but not necessarily represent one side of the spectrum dude but there are many who have very leftist ideals not necessarily mean it's bad as long as they don't get caught up in the bs we have today and have common knowledge and I would say just liberal ideas unlike most people today sadly..

    • @stanboyd1
      @stanboyd1 6 лет назад +5

punk bands aren't mostly leftist, most punk bands are libertarian as they are anti establishment and want less government not more, they want free speech not political correctness basically they want more freedom.

    • @memebot6490
      @memebot6490 6 лет назад +5

.......Dude. No. They are not libertarian. They're anarchists. Libertarians have a conservative viewpoint which is at odds with punk's rebellious message. They are usually left or anarchist.

Deez Bebe Rise Against supports the same Liberal ideas that millennials and gen z have. Btw Millennials are up to 30 years old and people lump them together with gen z. Some bands you listen to are millennials. I don't know how old you are but you could possibly be a millennial.

That is more of an essay answer... why does God allow evil? Is he not great enough to stop it? Is he simply uncaring? Maybe we should do a video on that...

Personally I think because if he did that would be taking away free will and roam into the subject of destiny. If everything is chosen beforehand then why am I here? Just to tell the story someone else wants? To be destined to never truly have choice or my own thoughts? So people can choose, and some people choose to do very horrible things.

Point and theme artfully dodged fellas. If you are seeing this video, this comment section, dont call their bs christian help line. Call or text 988, the ACTUAL prevention line. Its always a red flag when i hear the words "lifestyle choice", let alone trying to compare the plight of being one of the most respected religons in the world as a pastor to the SUFFERING OF A LGBTQ TEEN. yikes. The conversation you are wanting to have is a deflection, have the real conversation.

We had gay kids in high school. Nobody cared. I’m sure bullying happens in many places, but in Atlanta where I grew up it didn’t matter. Funny how the south gets accused of intolerance and I never saw it
