- How to make a simple bird trap that works. Live trap birds the easy way. I've been corrected in regards to the "Indian myna", the bird caught is in fact a native "Noisy miner". See here for the differences www.yimag.org.a... .

Just a friendly heads up the first bird you caught with the yellow beak are actually called Noisy miners, they are native to Australia you don't want to kill thoes its actually illegal , Dark brown body with fully black heads yellow beaks you can kill them they're the introduced ones :)
Thanks for posting this video. I've added it to my "Wild Meat" playlist on my channel.
Being a one-handed bushcrafter myself, I naturally subscribed to your excellent channel. Keep up the good work mate!
I guess that by now someone has mentioned that the first bird is a native, it is the noisy miner, not the introduced Indian myna
Thanks for your videos, I've been enjoying them :-)
noisy miner is the cockatoo or the bird world....whenever a predator bird flies into the vicinity they start chirping which causes galag, corella, pigeon ect to launch into flight...They actually make nervous wrecks of the other birds as they sound off for helicopters and commercial jets...anything high and the start.
Dear FPSOutback person, this is brillint! I shall have to try it myself. Also, thanks for showing other containers to use. pierre from New Mexico
Simple genius!! Another arrow in my survival quiver.......a new subscriber and junior bushcrafter in Ontario,
Can you use somthing else besides a mous trap maybe a home made one?
i think i messed up cus my mousetrap cracked in two (i was expecting that) and i wonder if you had the same problem before in doing it or if i just have a bad trap
Really great video, ty for taking the time. I'm glad to see you getting around just fine
I have a question though
After the bird is under the basket.... how do I get it out...
Lolliboo You mean besides lifting it? If you want to grab it then shove some cardboard underneath it and then you can turn it upside down with the bird in it. You can then put some netting in thru an opening that’s too small for the bird to come out and shake it around so it traps the bird.
NO3- oh thanks yeah I didn’t think of that
sweet cool thanks but whats up with your hand ?
this trap bring back alot of good memories when i was a kid.. we used to do it similar one.. with a stick holding the box up with a long string attached to the stick .. and the rest is was to wait for birds to gather around the seeds we set for them..
One other thing we used to do was strap a stone or something heavy to the top of the box ... this was because we used to set it for lots of pigeons at once.. and they can rattle the cage and escape some times.
It's so sad when u see his hand, but yet he pushes through that and gives the world some great traps
Wow, what a (great) simple idea. When i heard rat trap and nails, i thought B.S.
But i was wrong, wrong, wrong.
Gona try it in the next couple of days.
Well done mate. Nice one.
could you tell me how to make a foot snare like in your videos
How did you manage to arm the trap without pulling down the trap part? I have some traps and they refuse to arm otherwise.
what can you use as bait?
Would this type of trap work with large game birds? If so, how would they be lured in?
how do you catch an amazon ??? i see one at my school in a 10 metre tall palm tree i thing their nest is there
any advice on how to catch pheasant´s ??
can you tell me what happned to your hand
Does it matter what kind of mouse trap you use ?
im not from australia the mouse traps we have are alot diffrent i need help
Do you have any ideas or can this be modified to catch guinea fowl in a domestic situation. I don't wsant to harm them
How does this harm them?
I noticed a lot of people are asking how do you make it so the trap doesnt kill the bird in the same way it would kill a mouse....This is easy people look at the trap you will see that it is dummy set meaning the metal rod is still connected to the tongue of the trap but the spring is not pulled back.....the bird pecks at the tongue which lets the little metal rod drop and the weight of the box does the rest
What did u do to ur hand??
nice vid, i will try it out, although my mouse trap is different, it does not use the same "bar" trigger mechanism, instead it has a foot pedal type of part, which is below the main piece of wood, so I will have to figure out another way of attaching the string to it, or just buy an old style mousetrap like yours in the vid
do you keep birds you catch
I'm going to give this a try, thanks for sharing.
Last year I had to take off a section of the roof & I got rid of 3 birds nests & 18 Starling chicks which flew away.
Each nest left a pile that was knee high. 2 days ago I heard one trying to get back in, even though I've put gutter guard up. They're getting in between the gap of the roof & the gutter. Once the chicks hatch I won't be getting any sleep, because of they're constant chirping. I've been scaring them away with a broom, my neighbours think I'm crazy, hitting the gutters around the house every so often :)
my mouse trap dose not have a hole in the middle do i make one?
what did u use for bait??
I guess you will be glad to hear that someone did not notice your hand at all (so was surprised at the comments here) as I was too busy watchin your trap. thanks
Yeh thanks for the correction, though its already been annoted and is in description. I did catch sight of a real "indian" miner just yesterday though, as said in vid we don't get either in numbers around here.
For your information ... They grey minor bird at the start your first catch is "NOT" an introduced bird it is actually the Australian version of the minor ... The Indian minor is Brown, has a large white spot on each wing...
Thanks this will now help me protect my frogs
Can u use regular bread from the market?
yes, regular bread. If you want to use seed watch the latest vid on how to attach it.
Great video man. Got a few black birds and Indian Mynas to get rid of. I'll see how this goes, cheers!
Does this trap work for feral cats and other small wild animals?
what did you get suspnseed for?
Good vid, thanks
I always feel a bond with the folks from down under, seems their way of thinking closely follows the way of my father.
how did you lose your fingers?
You seem like a very intelligent guy. Great videos! I am now a subscriber.
i hav pest birds evre whcan you make a traoere adn i need to relokate them can you make a trap and shoo it
Youll find out, in english class
you can get suspended from youtube??? tell me about it? how you did that. i just started putting up some clips. i like your traps. real cool.
What happened to your hand!?
does this hurt the birds at all??
cool trap bro! totally humane. any ideas for getting rid of pesky crows?
nice trap man. what bait did you use? i built it like 1 hour ago and i used bread.
we had a more simplier one then this when I was young. we had a box 1 forked stick and a long string. you put the box on a 45 degree angle with the forked stick holding the higher end up with the string tied to the stick, chuck some bread under, hide, and when the birds go under pull the string...
+carlos eden The act of actually catching one is included in the "simplest" definition, set and forget beats sitting there waiting.
+FPSOutback like I said I was young. hiding behind a bush holding a string waiting to catch a live bird was absolutly awesome. I would do it this way now kuz I aint got the time to be waiting now I got my own kids lol
+carlos eden yes i tried that i failed all i got was a ant
carlos eden You can Do It with Your Kids But Tell Them to stand Back
I caught a dove but I don't know how to remove it from the box because it's just flying up and down so I'm kind of stuck at this point. A little help please
would this work on my kids?
& Yes...
The box would probably need to be bigger and the bait should probably be candy for it to work on kids
Hey, FPSoutback, do you know of any crow trap?
That's smart. We would probably get squirrels and chick monks this time of year. Most birds have gone south for the winter.
Thanks man! this video helped me with pigeons.
Are you still doing videos?
how do you kill them if you move the box and they immediately fly away? i can only think about setting the whole thing on intense fire
cool trap wht happened to ur hand
bro im a fan now of your videos your very good bro , i would just ask if its possible if you can do some effective sparrow bird snare coz we have many sparrow here in our backyard ive done the oija bird snare and spring pole snare i havent catch any, thanks bro.....
Could I use a mouse trap
Yes...
at 1:01 can i ask what happened to your hand? i might be mistaken but i looks like all the fingers and thumb are gone! Fair play to you cause that doesnt slow you down and im proud of you cause most people would sit on their backsides and collect the unemployed benifit but you seem as active as a regular person!! Well Done!
HI MATE I HAVE JUST CAME ACROSS YOUR VID GREAT STUFF I AM FROM SCOTLAND SO I WILL TRY IT OUT ON THE HAGGIS
You only use the trigger on the mouse trap, not the spring see 3:10 . I'm kinda limited on what I can upload to youtube, I only just got off a 6 month suspension.
You are a genius. This is great. I'm going to try it to get rid of the pigeons around the house.
its a good trap.tried it.but the mouse trap won't trigger when i used it with a piece of bread.they peck it carefully so it wont set off
A magpie couple that for years come over daily for a snack have a young one that has a seriously injured paw. I would like to capture it and bring it to a local vet for help. Thank you for this demonstration.
Im sorry for you hand what happend to it
dude what is worg with you hand
What happened to your left hand?
Just curious
he stole something and got caught told him to pick a hand.. maybe
Try the other one in the vid response, some birds are too wary to walk under a box/cage.
Wrap some tape around the rod so the trigger can only sit on the very end of the rod for a hair trigger. Prevents the bird pullng up on the bait rather then down.
Is the birds in the usa
what happen to your hand. ?
Thats awesome! Is that a go pro u were using?
Great video!
What happend to your left hans
i like the trap man! it actually works, now i only have few pest sparrows left around my aviary, thanks!
whats withs his left hand 1:56
I happen to know him wow I can't believe how many people are asking about his hand so everybody does not have to keep asking he was fishing and a crocodile got his hand so now you all know
Wow that’s cool
a easier trigger is the sampson's post. all you need is your capture device(cage or deadfall) and either one stick and a pebble or two sticks. with the stick and stone, you simply put the pebble on the ground, place the bait on top of it, put the stick on top of the bait and then your capture device on top of that. when the animal tries to take the bait, they knock the support stick out. with two sticks, you just place the bait on the end of one and either place the trigger stick on top or below
sorry if this is inerpropiate but what happened to your hand sorry if its wrong to say it
what happened to your hand?
How does one go about retrieving the bird without allowing them to escape?
I'd be hesitant to stick my hand under that box. A trapped bird can be nasty and inflict some seriously septic wounds.
its fine I reach under my bird traps all the time. but I think you should use a small box so you can slide it into a pillow case and then reach in to grab the bird! on wednesday 23rd I got a carolina wren for the third time in my arapuca and when I reached under to grab him he got out. so I think I'll start using the pillow case!!!
Use a garden or thick rubber glove
What with your hand.... Sorry im asking
Absolutely good job man. i got to get me a Rat Trap now. going to the Mountain when all hell brakes lose. you know food shortage. Economy and such. going to have to eat a Bird or two. thank you for the video Mate
Can I use anything else instead of a rat trap?
Going to put one in the yard today for eurasian collared doves in Texas. They're considered invasive, no season, no limit, and tasty!
Thanks autoairsteer you are absolutely right. As I said I haven't seen a bird like that in years, so its a good thing I let it go. I'll annote the vid with the correction.
sorry to be rude but what happened to your hand!? (just curious :) )
hey thanks for posting this i live in hawaii and im catchin erkles almost every day and iv cought 4 at once this trap is awsome
As an avid falconer I will be using this! Hello by way of Alabama!
lol, somehow i didn't notice you had set the other end of the cordage in the ground and i was like 'this is working... but... i don't see how...' *rolls eyes* anyway, great vid - beautifully simple trap.
Such a simple idea, I love it! Now I know what to do with old rat traps with busted tension springs.
what hapend to your hand
Great video man! I'm now off to the store to get a rat trap! Really simple thanks for the post...BTW brother how did you scar yourself so badly Looks like a gator rolled your hand? Anywhoo keep the videos coming and thanks again for teach me to trap birds this easy.
Thank you so much, this is brilliant! The magpies here are chasing away all the small birds, eat the cat food and poop everywhere. We don't want to kill them though, we might just relocate them. GOD bless.
are you ok
Brilliant trap mate , another good use for a rat trap , thats mean two trapping options for 1 trap, brilliant !
Great trap man. Never thought of using a rat trap that way, but it really works.
FPS: Thanks for the video. Correct me if I'm wrong but you pre drilled a hole in the rat trap so that you're not hammering a nail through the trap. And then you're not actually setting the trap as you would to catch vermin. Not bad. thinkes for the videoyw, mite.
what is wrong with your left hand?
wat happen to your hand
Ingenius! Going to make it with my son, just to look at the birds, then release them.
FPSoutback what happened to your left hand? I kinda feel sorry for your left hand. :(
