Saveri Ragam is an Audava-Sampurna ragam with five notes in the ascending n seven in the descending scale! In fact that is the beauty of the ragam wherein two swaras which give such a characteristic are Rishabham and Dhaivatham. The Vocalist presented an excellent rendition of the Maharaja Swathi Thirunal kriti on Lord Ganesha., but without Ragaalapana. The sworakalpana was outstanding ..rightly connected the swarom with short phrases matching the thala cycle. For info....Dr.BMK/ .M.Balamuralikrishna has sung this composition in the raga Aswathi invented by him. In fact Prince Rama Varma compensated that while he sang this in Saveri almost like the Dr.BMK's style. No harm Prince had had few years 'Gurukula Training' under the legendary maestro. Amazing concert...best wishes!
