- 2021 was the year of the downsize for LEGO Star Wars with classic ships like the X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Slave 1, & Imperial Shuttle releasing in smaller form factors. We finally got more Clone Wars Season 7 sets but this years UCS slate was definitely eye catching. 75309 UCS Republic Gunship & 75313 UCS AT-AT combines cost $1150 and are amazing models. One sparks joy... the other does not. With 25 sets released in total there was something for everyone, comment your thoughts below!

Best: UCS AT-AT
Worst: Gunship because it’s the Gunship :(
The best had to be the Gunship, not only did I have an amazing time building it when it fell apart twice! (Could have been 3) But we got the figs we didnt ask for. Not only that but it's the only OT set we have had for a while now...
UCS at-at all the way and worst is the 4+ Poe dameron x wing it really is horrid

I really think it’s pretty childish to put the gunship in last place just because of the minifigures. If we’re talking about it as a set then it’s honestly incredible as the build is stunning and pretty accurate which is what you want from a UCS set. There’s obviously a lot of controversy around it but realistically it’s just stupid to put it so low
It's a gorgeous set and admittedly it did have some hiccups, however the they were mostly press related. The mini-figure selection wasn't amazing but it wasn't objectively bad, the only reason people hate on it so much is because of how the designers showcased their ignorance.
The amount of times I've seen people shit on this set is similar to how many times I see someone use the phrase "wholesome" on reddit. It's beating a beyond dead horse at this point.

For most of them I get it but I don't get why someone needs to point out every bad thing about it. I love Lego for what it is I won't complain but sometimes a few things bum me out but I will and always love Lego. If only the best is good enough then ok I respect all people's opinions.
He can be childish and toxic sometimes but it's okay to me and again I get why he was kicked form the Lego ambassador program they had their own reasons for something he wasn't supposed to do but it's his opinions and not much others will but I will respect his reasons.
While I agree with you that the release of the gunship was not well done, and the mini figures inside of it are not what we ask for… I think that the UCS Republic Gunship by far is way better then the 4+ X-Wing and many others that you ranked above it. The build of the actual gunship is one of the best sets of the year in my opinion. The set would have to be number 6 or 7 on the list for me. Just my opinion…🤷🏽 I agree with everything else on your list! Great video, keep it up! 👍🏼

If you ignore the controversy (some justified, some imagined) around the Gunship, and look at it just as a set I think it’s amazing. Definitely needed to be higher on the rankings.

He's always been someone who will hold a grudge for things like this has had and ignore the actual set itself and how great it is. Just got it myself and half way through building, it's a beauty, shame about the figs etc but doesn't take away from how great the set itself is

@@mattvisconti8456 Sure, the way Lego handled the release and criticism was awful, but the set isn’t bad. It’s an amazing and accurate build, and despite how LEGO revealed themselves as a company during launch, the gunship is an overall good product.

I agree, Ryan’s anger has clouded his judgement. If you step aside for a moment and compartmentalize the drama, it really is a phenomenal set. The build is highly detailed and exquisite. The minifigs are eh at best, BUT they shouldn’t downgrade the set so much that it places behind some of the 4+ sets. He’s being edgy.
The AT AT is overated. Its just bunch of grey bricks for 800 bucks.. I just don't understand the hype around it. The price is insane. The gunship was so much better imo..for the money. Don't care about the controversy, the build was beautiful.

I swear he can't go 2 videos anymore without some kind of rant about how awful he thinks the gunship is. It's so annoying now because he always ignores the actual set to complain about the designer interview, the box, or the minifigure. Like Ryan we get it, clone bad, now for the love of christ please move on. It's a really nice looking model and they're actually giving us episode 2 sets which is what we wanted, but he's just being unbelievably petty about little details that don't affect the model
I'm sorry but I just tuned immediately out when UCS Gunship was last.
Honestly, I really disagree with the placement of the UCS gunship. While it had issues with the baggage tied to it, it was still a fantastic build and the minifigures were still really nice. And to put it behind other sets where you pointed several other issues, I don’t think it’s deserving of last place.
The mini figs where the worst thing in any lego Star Wars set, If I’m spending 350 dollars I kinda want something to entice me more

I think moving forward, we should rank lego sets based on how good the actual set is and not include the added controversy and marketing problems outside the set itself. The gunship deserved a much higher placement. On another note, I’m glad the tie fighter got top 15. Definitely my favorite set of the year

As much as I think the choices with the mini-figs and the other things said about the set were stupid I believe the UCS Gunship if we are talking about the actual set is remarkable and beautiful and deserves second place. And I do have the set and believe this so I’m not just talking as someone with no experience with the actual thing.
I ended up putting it 2nd in my ranking video yesterday. I absolutely love the build, and I guess it helps when the Gunship is your favorite ship.
I have agreed with mandr with almost everything he's ever said but the saltiness he holds over the company not including 1 minifigure is extremely childish.
yeah i think the gunship is one of the best sets of the year. if you judge it just buy the build (i own the set btw), i think its worth the money and deserves to be much higher, despite its other issues imo.

Honestly the gunship is one of the best looking sets I’ve seen or built, and it’s size for the price is insanely good. I like the minfigures, but they could have been better with at least a pilot for continuity with other UCS sets. I personally don’t even like to display the figures next to a UCS set.

The minifigs aren’t even bad. They’re very accurate, and the ones Ryan wanted didn’t even make sense, especially since we knew for a long time it would be episode 2 based
@@SOMEONE-fv4cl that’s what I’m saying. Ryan was entilted too two mini figures that made no sense, plus no one outside of the very niche Lego Star Wars meme community knows who Jedi Bob is. Jedi Bob is not a compelling character, nor is he one a larger majority of Lego Star Wars fans actually care about.
Everything surrounding the release of the Gunship was abysmal and it definitely just proves how out of touch the designers are with the community. However, placing it that low on the list is a disservice to the actual set. I think if you forget about the controversy the set is easily number two on the list. Even considering everything surrounding it, I still think that it deserves higher placement just considering how beautiful that build is.

Baggage the fan base made on the UCS Gunship. "Wow a set not scaled for minifigs didn't come with the minfig I wanted, it's now awful." Give me a break, everyone knows its a fantastic build and an even better display piece. I for one (even having the gunship) am glad that a highly desired figure like a Phase II Cody wasn't exclusive to a $350 set. Leaves it easier to get him in a set all fans can have in the future, not just RUclipsrs.
I find it quite frankly sad that after we finally get a prequel UCS set that we all voted for, the community cries like 5 year olds cause the box art got messed up and they didn't get the minifig they wanted. It's a UCS, hell for years UCS sets didn't have minifigs. Get a grip.

i usually like your videos, but it's hard taking this ranking serious, when you put the UCS Gunship as the worst set, because of some drama that has nothing to do with the actual build.
Besides all the PR problems, the gunship is a great set and a good build. should be at least top 5.
Yeah the gunship, an absolutely accurate and detailed UCS set is last place, while the imperial light cruiser is 2nd place being one of the most inaccurate sets ever (proportions, bridge, darksaber etc.), with a lack of playfeatures.
It’s because MandR is prone to being biased because he didn’t get what he campaigned for. The whole gunship gang thing makes him think that if the gunship isn’t exactly what the fans asked for, it’s terrible and against him. He took it personally. Besides, I think the fans asked for Jedi Bob??? And there was no way Lego would do that. It is only recognizable to the people in the Lego Star Wars meme community, which is quite niche, and some 40 year old guy with the money to buy a ucs set has no clue who fucking Jedi Bob is. P2 Cody was justifiable, but it wouldn’t make sense as this is an aotc gunship. The clone pilot thing is dumb tho, 100 percent.

Its not fair to put the ucs gunship that low. Yes LEGO fucked up with some things they said but nonetheless its a great set! Take out the controversy and you have a 9.5 set. I know LEGO fucked up saying: the clone commander doubles as a pilot" or saying that it is an OT set but the set itself is great, say what you want about the figures but they are really good minifigs, not the best inclution (Jedi Bob and clone pilot) bit still good they are just disapointing and Yes they should've listen to the fans with Jedi Bob (not cody that was just a really stupid fantasy someone thought made sense). But i think that the set is beautiful, I got it for my birthday this year and it costed me sweat, blood and tears (im not joking i went insane while building) and i have it proudly displayed in my room.

I can understand your qualms about the UCS Gunship, and some of the controversy was worth talking about. But there’s no way that your personal baggage makes you place below a 4+ X-Wing which is poorly done and as bottom of the barrel you can get and for their youngest market compared to being a set meant for adults. I could get it being on the lower half with your problems in mind, but I don’t think the somewhat lacking figs and the controversy can make dead last and below a 4+ set personally it’s comes off as very petty to me. You have a hard time letting the baggage go and I get it (if I were your mindset), but you got to move on sooner or later. Your review and some related videos about the UCS Gunship will age poorly due to this, it’s like a dark cloud above your head you can’t get rid of whenever you bring it up. Still I hope for you to move on form this point and leave it in 2021 and mold into making your content better

Definitely agree that the gunship was a pr nightmare and Lego fell woefully short of how to treat your fan base, but there's no way you can objectively say it was the worst set of 2021. The UCS AT-AT was the undeniable #1 and the gunship was definitely in the top 5. Love your channel and looking forward to 2022 content.
Holy cow I did just realize how roughs a year for Lego Star Wars sets this was. I only got three sets! One of those was the UCS Gunship, and, as much as I hate all the stuff surrounding it, it’s my first UCS set, and with such a great build it can’t not be my favorite Lego Star Wars set ever.

That’s the thing too is I’ve been such a big fan of the channel until all this gunship stuff. The first video or two didn’t bother me, but the relentless is just crazy.
In his older videos he talks about how he really liked the last Jedi movie and how he was bummed about how the controversy about the movie was putting a divide between the community because so many people didn’t like something that he liked. And now the same thing is happening with this. I think a lot of people like this channel and the gunship and it’s just a bummer to hear someone you admire to just constantly dump on something you were excited for.

@@orcaking3432 You do not understand that you don’t let your non-unanimous opinion affect an objective list based on value/looks/etc of a lego set. What I understood was that the main issue was/is with the LEGO Star Wars team’s poor communicated relationship with customers. From watching most of mnrproductions videos and the video from the guy who was in the satirical lego interview (blanking on his name), the only real issue was with the communication, not so much that the set had minor errors that really don’t affect the LEGO set itself. In those videos he reiterates that he thinks the build is amazing and that his only issues were with the figures, the imperial insignia, and the communication. So I really don’t understand why it’s dead last at all seeing as it’s an objective list. I agree with mandr that minifigures are integral to any LEGO set, especially when it’s a UCS set, just so long as it’s minifigure scale/play scale.
Despite the figures, the UCS Gunship is nowhere near #25 based on the build alone. I’d say it’s more around 6-8 on this list.

I do agree with you on the duel on mandalore set, there should’ve been a third minifigure. It’s a good set, just the price is the worst part
It doesn’t need a third fig, just a bigger build. It’s following the lines of the 1v1 duels like the Rey/kylo ren and anakin/obi-wan, but they both had much bigger builds. They maybe could’ve added some sort of beams like in the tv show or maybe just more around the wall
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Republic Gunship. The only thing that could be holding it down is the Figure selection, and that barely affects it. The drama surrounding it may not be good, but the set’s placement shouldn’t be affected by the controversy. The set itself is great

Although the way LEGO revealed and promoted the UCS gunship was very poor, I still think it is one of the best sets of the year or even past few years. As someone who owns the built set I can say it looks incredible with other UCS sets. I think it definitely deserved second or third spot even though it had its issues unrelated to the build
The bad batch shuttle placement really surprised me it was easily in my top 3 sets of the year I don't know if it was just cause I loved the show but I think it looks great

I like the color and it’s too nitpicky for me to put it low because the show left the color somewhat ambiguous, but the problem was the lack of a locking mechanism for the top fin. I’m used to picking up shuttles by that and it really bothered me. I’m with MandR in that I hate modding official sets, they should work property out of the box. Also wished for some landing gear.

Just finished building my Imperial light cruiser, Love it. Looks especially nice after I got rid of the spring loaded shooters on the guns and put some studs on the front so the hatch to the play area isn't just loose. Id love to get the UCS ATAT but it's just so expensive. Ill probably settle for the playset
The 2020 AT-AT is still amazing. 6 pretty good figures and being able to move the legs on your own. Plus doesnt take up as much space as the UCS one. Not saying the UCS one is worse, but due to its size and price, the 2020 one was a better buy for me. I have it and don't regret it.
The only part about it that sucks is trying to tie that incredibly small knot 😂

Gunship is a 9,5/10 for me loved the build it was the most important thing for me, the minifigs were not what we should have gotten but still i don’t think that it is the most important thing and i can live without a phase 2 cody PERSONALLY
I like you man but the reason for you putting the Gunship at last is silly and possibly even more childish than the lego company. To me minifigures don't make a set and phase 2 Cody not included doesn't mean the set was bad.

I'm so glad you put the Armored Marauder so high, it's plain looking but has so many play features and the largest interior of any other set under like $150. Opening cockpit, doors, roof, back, cargo bays with printed boxes and bombs, 3 troopers including a specialty troop, and a swiveling seat for the gunner. HIGHLY underrated set
The gunship is an amazing set, even with the controversy around it ( which is exaggerated here imo) it should be way higher on the list

The best, in my opinion, X-wing we've ever got, minifig scale and all.
Mandalorian Starfighter, such a perfect set.
Bad Batch Shuttle, honestly a near perfect set, especially when it comes to figures.
And obviously, the AT-AT is easily the second best UCS set, right behind the Falcon.

There's been some of the greatest builds of all time for Lego Star Wars this year, just most of the minifigs feel lacking, like Gunship figs and the Armorer and stuff like that...overall a pretty decent year

You gushed about the UCS gunship in your initial review. Yet you rated it the worst set of the year, even below the child's X-Wing fighter. Is there another video that I should watch to get your reason why you rated this so low? Is it just about the minifigures? I agree with you that they are a pretty crappy selection, even for a company who says 'good enough is the best they can do'. But the ship is what really stands out.

I’m not saying the Gunship deserves last place because that build was amazing. However, Lego literally asked us what minifigures we wanted to see in this set and flat out ignored what we wanted. If Lego never asked us what we wanted for minifigures, then this set would probably have no problems. But they did ask, only to get our hopes up and then make us question the integrity of Lego. The point is, you can’t ask your customers what they really want the most with a set and then not deliver.
I think if the mini figs actually made sense they would’ve. But given how much mandr likes to complain about everything, he would’ve said they were inaccurate even if they were what he asked for

and its so poorly executed, should of been an amazing set, but all the gaps in the shell and "peek-a-boo" Vader are big no go for me

15:45 I feel a little mixed on the helmet controversy. In The Mandolorian, Boba's helmet is pretty much the same color as his chest piece, however in The Book of Boba Fett, his helmet appears to be a little lighter than his chest piece. The lego minifigure's green on the helmet and jetpack is still obvious too light
2021 was a pretty good year but also pretty rough tho but at least we got some great sets like the ucs At-At

I got the UCS republic gunship and I haven’t received it yet so I was really worried when you put it at the bottom of the list, but when I look at the images the set is amazing! Now I actually play with the sets so I’m glad that there is so much space for the clones. And I mean a mace windu?! That’s amazing! Since I’m a much younger collector I never got to collect the older sets like the prequel sets which I’m a complete fan of so having brought back a mace windu is amazing for me, I think I’ll enjoy stuffing the characters in the guns and seats 👍
Gunship would be second for me, we are talking about the build not the drama around it, besides, even if it did have p2 cody i doubt anybody would have spent 350 for one fig that would just be scalped anyway. another thing, i have never heard anyone actually bad mouth the build, just people wanting cody and jedi bob

Gotta disagree on the gunship. I'm only halfway through the build and I already love it. It's an absolute beast! Yeah, the minifigs kinda suck, and there was the logo thing, but beside that, this thing absolutely gorgeous. I hope to see more prequel UCS in the future.
Gunship should be higher, the model is a work of art and looks amazing on display, big wow factor. Sure the minifigs are trash but like, thats 7 or so pieces. And were probably gonna get a phase 2 cody eventually.

It is not the worst set of the year, absolutely not.
Were the minifigs poor and had a lot of controversy around them? Yes. But honestly they're no worse than the figures in the UCS Star Destroyer (which only got less controversy because people were more hyped for the gunship).
I'm sorry but you saying it's the most controversial Lego Star wars set ever is just plain wrong. To you and your community? Sure. But a lot more people buy Lego Star Wars than watch MandRProductions.
I have a friend who works in a Lego store and the Gunship has been a consistent best seller since it's release. I popped in myself yesterday to pick up a set and saw 3 people walk out with one in just the 10 minutes I was there. (Yes that is because it's just been Christmas and people have the money to spend, but seeing 3 of such a big set sell in such a small window of time is rare).
In short, yeah this ain't it chief.

What if we got a Siege of Mandilore battle pack where we get 2 Mandilorian loyalists, and 2 Maul supporters. I know this is probably unlikely because LEGO is LEGO, but it’d be cool.

I personally own the gunship and I just can't see how you can dislike such a stunning model, it is hard to ignore all of the efforts the designers put into the conception of it.
Everyone here are complaining about the gunship but if it was any other set no one would complain. It is because it is gunship.

Cmon man putting the gun ship in last? I get there was controversy over the mini figs, but who tf buys a UCS set for the mini figs? The actual set is magnificent.
0:47 the reason why I think some people dislike this set is purely because of all the crap surrounding it we as fans have to look at it this way. If lego made this in like 2009 or something when mini figs were mostly not seen in UCS sets it would be known today as a legendary LSW set but because lego starts putting mini figs in UCS sets which should make it better it gets worse because we don’t get the ones we want. I am upset we didn’t get a phase to Cody but if nobody asked for it everyone would love it. Yes the mini figs aren’t great but we didn’t get mini figs in older UCS sets that we LOVE sets like the UCS dartg Vader’s tie fight or UCS Naboo starfighter or UCS Death Star. LOOK AT THE SET IT IS A STUNNING MODEL WITH MINIFIGURES your not buying a box with Hans bucanshlumerz crap in it your buy a UCS Republic gunship
It’s not just the fact they didn’t include the ones we wanted it’s that they asked us and 90% of us said the same thing and they still failed to come through. They knew what the right thing to do was and were unable to do it

@@johnnybaxter1953 they did go above and beyond tho. The model is absolutely stunning. Ucs sets are supposed to be very accurate and detailed, which this, including the minifigs, was. If they put Cody into this set, it would’ve made it objectively inaccurate, because it’s an episode 2 set, so it makes perfect sense why lego didn’t put him in. If the minifigs choices made by people actually made sense, then they probably would’ve put them in
