  • Welcome to The Felt Hub and the wonderful world of needle felting! I'm going to show you how to needle felt for complete beginners, improvers, and more advanced needle felters. You will be creating your own needle felted animals and creations in no time at all! Starting needle felting is really easy, and a great way to make eco-friendly DIY crafts. My step by step needle felting guides will show you some basic shapes and techniques, so it's perfect for all abilities. Once you have learned the needle felting basics you can create dozens of simple needle felting projects, and different needle felted animals.

    Coarse wool top - I'm using Herdwick
    38 start felting needle - Good all rounder
    Felting mat - Any type

    Hi Sandy, hope you are well xx I don't know if you have ever tried using shears (the ones with jagged blades - think that's what they are called, for cutting wool. I've found that it provides a different finish, less blunt; I suppose like hairdressers thinnin scissors. Thank you again for a wonderful tutorial xx

      @@lynnestreick8486 I was thinking of pinking shears, but I wonder if hairdressing scissors would work too, now you mention it

    Thanks for the tutorial! I love the effect but I wonder what to do with all that cut off wool. Seems like an awful waste to just throw it away. What do you do with it? The only thing that comes to my mind is using it in the core of some other needle felted base body.

      Glad you enjoyed the tutorial. I never throw any wool away. As you said, I use it for core or, as it is 100% sustainable and biodegradable, it makes a great addition to compost. Or, pop it in a container and the birds, and critters can also line their nests with it. ☺
