I have fond memories of this game. My friends and i would play it every day after school. I personally LOVED how the game emphasized the impacts (when they flash) and how they bounced off walls as well as the character designs. i will be playing this again in the future for nostalgia.

I just love this game. Nostalgia plays a big part of it, but it actually has a lot of (crap) personality and is playable when you learn some moves.

Even if I'm not using this video to gauge whether or not I should play this game, this was still an entertaining video. Keep up the awesome work, Drunk/Clyde!
I like how each character is listed to be over 50 feet tall but the world is equally huge so there's no scale disparity between the fighters and the environment, which makes everything look completely normal.

This game features a Venus Flytrap named DIO. They should have used a 16bit version of Holy Diver for stage music. I mean come on....the opportunity was right there!

And I agree with everyone, the character designs are indeed cool. Even _Larry_ manages to be special through the sheer averageness of his own design.

I had an English bulldog named Clyde, from the orangutan in the Clint Eastwood movie "Every Which Way but Loose"
He was such a bad ass bully, his favorite toy was a 12 lb bowling ball, he would throw it in the air with his lower jaw

It's a shame. When it comes to games with a wide variety of characters to play as (typically fighting games of course), I really value some good creative character designs. I don't really get excited about choosing between "Random guy", "Random bigger guy" or "Random guy in different clothes". Like, yeah, Street Fighter is obviously great and the characters are iconic now, but if I didn't already know who they were, none of them would stick out in my memory. They look fine, sure, but they're kind of just a collection of random faces that don't really grab me. But an anthropomorphic kickboxing horse? Weird sarcophagus head guy? Being able to play a fighting game as an actual straight-up dragon? Those are some awesome character designs that really stick out.
Unfortunately creative character design can only do so much. No amount of creativity can make up for a game just sucking to actually play. Real shame there.

As a huge hockey fan I loved the Hartford Whalers reference!
I wasn't going to leave a comment except for three things. 1.Clyde the wiener dog is adorable. 2.Go Whalers. 3.A game that might give this a run for it's money is the Genesis port of the arcade game Time Killers.
all things considered, back in the day, before SF2, we actually had lots of fun with this game on my local game rental store

I feel like this game would probably benefit from a more fleshed out remake. Honestly, the concept of twelve planets in a star system sending a worthy fighter to save their race from extinction sounds rad as hell.

You know what's funny? I used to feel exactly like you did. Fighting Masters was one of two games I got with my second Sega Genesis in the mid 2000s (the other game being Sonic the Hedgehog 2) and, after the super cool intro, the blood-pumping theme song and the insane roster of fighters got me hyped up, I was super letdown once I got to the actual gameplay. "Punches only stun? Only grapples and jump kicks do damage? This game blows!" However, over time, Fighting Masters has become a guilty pleasure of mine. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but I guess those cool characters (go Phoenix!) and the incredibly unique fighting system (which kind of, sort of, plays like a 2D wrestling game with how important grapple moves are) finally won me over after years of me putting the game down.
Side note, I had no idea Dirk was called Larry in certain versions of the game! That's fucking hilarious!
EDIT: Turns out most of the characters got their names changed in a later version of the game (which is the version I own). Elepha was renamed Mastodon, Flamer was renamed Equus, ect.
I LOVE Fighting Masters. It was the only game I had for Genesis for a long time so I played it to death and love it!!

I had this game growing up. The Genesis and this game (with a couple of others) were a hand me down from my cousin. It may suck, but it is nostalgic for me. I enjoyed your video. Would love to see someone decide this IP will be remastered.

Personally I enjoyed hearing about bad games too.
Clyde is the only redeeming thing about Fighting Masters.
I just found out there was a second Eternal Champions game on Sega CD. Between that, Shining Force CD, and Popful Mail, I guess I'm in the market for a Sega CD now... or uh, some sort of reasonable alternative...
You fail to see all the pros, fast combat, easy to learn, super unique characters. Badass hit effects, cool story, crazy boss fight!

I had this game in the early 90’s. I loved it back then.
So i got my SNES mini modded with all SNES games ever put on it. And i cam across a game called “Super Robot Wars 3” and im actually having a lot of fun with it. I’ve never even heard of this game before and I think it DEFINITELY deserves consideration for a video (or maybe even the whole franchise?).

I remember playing this game back in 1992. It wasn't so bad back then. I used to play the Medusa dude all the time... I think. The scrolling up and down looked cool in the fights.
